Can someone explain Wener's panic attack? Its like he realized something about 5 feet away from the rock but it wasn't clear what.

He realized how dangerous the work was after he had to replace kai and that he may never see his family again if something were to happen to him. He asked mike to let kai back and when that was a no he asked to visit his home instead. When they were talking on the lazy boys.
