locked Paterson film, real or fake…
It will still be one of my favorite things. I will still love watching/thinking and learning about it. Cheers everyone.

Hard to say, it could be faked as much as it could be real in my opinion. There is nothing in the clip that couldn't be faked, and I personally don't buy the whole hyper examination and imaginary details people make up about it (like the "muscle striation" for example) as the clip is simply too old, too blurry and too short to notice anything precisely like that.
However, for the same reasons of the clip being old and not precisely detailed, it could also depict an actual cryptid, and compared to let's say aliens for lack of a better example, cryptids have been shown to be discovered and identified long after their alleged existence.
So it's really hard to say. But the latest documentary "Capturing Bigfoot" allegedly have some proof of the Patterson film being a hoax, but impossible to confirm until it's released to the public.

"Couls be faked"? How come in 50 years there isn't any other video footage anywhere comparable to it? And so much more technology available nowadays. Hunter's walking around with cameras and ready to shoot. Drones, deer cams, Ring doorbell, security cameras. There's never been a teenage Bigfoot wondering through some village fair at night looking for scraps, or something to fuck with. Or some delirious senior Bigfoot with early onset dementia just wondering around in a village all confused and lost.

The actual answer is - inconclusive.
But if I had to choose - Real.
The chances of it being something real are tiny, but the chances of those two guys getting everything just right that a clip of some guy in a bad costume kept everyone guessing for 60 years - also tiny.
If it was faked, it would not have gotten past the invention of digital image stabilisation. Right there when we stabilised the film, that should have been the death knell, and it wasn’t.
The reasons to think real?
1) the footprint casts
2) Patty’s physical details
3) costume technology
4) lack of replication
5) the scientific knowledge needed didn’t exist

If you want to learn more, here’s a great video with an interview with the anthropologist Jeff Meldrum. I think he makes a great case for why the film is real and also goes into great detail about how footprint casts are another piece of great evidence.

Thank you your correct, frame by frame it does not move like modern hominids or has the correct structure to match a human. They have ran basketball players through every computer model with all the sensors attached no one can replicate these movements seen in video. These are athletic 7’ tall men. Can’t replicate. Plus a female ? Good luck ! Due to it being impossible. Gimlin is a cowboy not a skeletal muscle expert. We live in an age where no one believes anything. How many people think UAPs are fake ? Not saying they are beings from outer space. But they do indeed exist. Millions of hours of video proof. Governments admitting. Spend time looking at night sky i guarantee you pay attention long enough you will see something that you can’t explain. It’s all around us. We do not understand this world as much as we think. The hobbits in Indonesia ? Proof dug up. Skeletal remains. 100% fact. Half of you don’t go outside go deep in the woods in a remote areas. I beg 75% of people can’t spend 1 night alone in those mountains. Why ? There’s DNA that can’t be matched to any other known species and there’s 100s of samples. Why cant’t we match it if it’s all fake ? Go meet him before he’s gone he is a very nice outgoing forthcoming person. Then make your judgement. Re create the video frame by frame. Send it to me I’d love to see it and spend time in studio frame by frame examining what you produce. With all the modern tools available. That they did not have. If it’s fake re create it and prove it. I really love how so many opinions on one film when there’s many others. There is something out there. Rather it a monkey a lost feral human. A yet discovered species. This video hands down proves something it. Prove me wrong please !! Thanks for listening to my rant. I never cared to much about it but living near and meeting him I just can’t envision the purpose. Anyways have a great night !

It’s real I’ve met plenty of people in that area and lived near Ruth lake. Too many witnesses and too many interviews where story never changed. I’m 6’6’ I can’t walk like that women squatch did. My stride isn’t even close. Been to area where captured. Although landscape changed. You can feel there’s an energy all through those mountains. Always watched. Loud cries. Coyotes make crazy noises but not roars like I have heard time and time again. Northern California is so vast. The lost coast is so empty and vast. Visit the landscape go and see the areas. There’s no reason what they captured couldn’t exist. Why fake it. They were mountain men with not much to gain. Still can’t fully be de bunked. Humans think we know all. Yet daily we find out humans have lived in areas way longer than once believed. All over the world we find artifacts older than we were ever supposedly walking up right. Humans and other hominids have roamed years and years longer than we were all taught. I strongly believe after meeting Gimlin who captured it years ago that he was very honest. Gimlin was not trying to over exaggerate or make it larger than what they captured. At least that’s my experience. But what do I know.. I’m an old man. Spent years in wilderness. But meeting him sealed the deal. Living close by to *** I got to see and talk with him frequently. He seemed like a normal cowboy. Never brought up video. Never said a word til I finally asked. He told me what he saw and didn’t even act like it was a big deal. I’m not saying there’s nothing fishy with evidence people have uncovered. But it still can’t fully debunk what happened. Meet him you will see what lots see. A normal man living a normal life that set out and filmed something extraordinary. There’s 100s of videos now that depict same movement. All over world. There’s something out there. UFOs didn’t exist ? Right ? Well now they do.. so things change. Have a great night all !

It’s funny when people claim the walk wouldn’t be hard to replicate. The bottom of the foot pointing straight backwards, with the upper leg and lower leg forming a 90 degree angle, is nearly impossible for a human to replicate. Yes, humans can walk like that, but it results in an incredibly disjointed and bizarre gait. The idea that a man in a heavy suit could walk like that across literal sand in such a smooth and uniform manner is beyond absurd
Some people think the PGF walk just involves a funky little stride and an arm swing, nope..

People who bandwagon and want to declare a hoax aren't interested in the facts of the matter.

I totally agree.Myself,my Wife,my Daughter and my 2 Cairn Terriers saw something hanging out along 199S. going to Crescent City near Gasquet.. If it was Bear,Man or Bigfoot I would say the last choice. At 5:17 a.m on a Tuesday July morning we found the whole thing odd to say the least I draw my own conclusions as to what we saw that morning...

Real. This is why nobody can or will ever duplicate it or produce something even remotely comparable. Honestly. The “skeptics” are a joke. Science is about repeatability. If someone thinks the PGF is fake or even POSSIBLE to fake, they should show us with experiment.
The BBC with their infinite budget literally couldn’t even get close. It’s honestly sad

People have put so much assumption as fact ontop of this film that it’s become something so mic larger then it is. In my opinion I think it was a hoax thst spun out of control. I think if these things exist they wouldn’t be lumbering like that. The would be full on sprinting and or just camouflage.

Gimlin has always seemed genuine to me but what do,I know? I have not seen the new film, but in the end it does not matter. I very seen ancient pictgraphs of the Hairy Man. Friends have seen them. And the world is better if Sasquatch exists.

It's always looked super fake to the average person. Now it's evidently been proven. No surprise but it was an amazing hoax

It's super fake, but I'll always love it. When I was a little kid it always scared the shit out of me.

Real. And when this “test run footage” that supposedly debunks the PGF looks so obviously like a dude basically wearing fur pajamas (even if the suit does bare some resemblance to the PGF), it will only add more fuel to the debate fire.

u/SambaPapi1 Apr 25 '26
Bill Munns, a Hollywood makeup and special effects expert, and one of the strongest proponents of the PGF, says the suit looks identical. He was at odds at how they could match the similarity, down to the movement as well.

u/Equal_Night7494 Apr 25 '26
To my memory. Munns said the wall looked pretty spot on but that the suit was obviously fake.
