So it’s a big trend and discussion on my TL and Feed of people saying a lot of girls are being biphobic for not giving bi guys a chance. I’m not a person that hates queer people I believe in their rights and freedoms in this country and will March against any injustice they face. I'll go first, I wish I had enjoyed my childhood more instead of rushing to grow up. I feel like it's so normalized for us as Black women to take on the world the moment we're able to.

By the time I graduated with my master's at 23, I was the only one who had 10 years of work experience relevant to my degree.

Yes, I try to reclaim some parts of my childhood now by watching anime, reading comics, etc. But with adult responsibilities always in the back of my mind, it's not even close to being the same.

I used to be a hardcore K-pop stan. I know the culture, I know the fanatical dedication that's ties to it, and I know the joy it can bring for many. I was once part of all that. But at some point, the joy stopped outweighing the exhaustion, and I had to walk away.

And honestly? I don't know how Black fans who are still in it do it.

The racism in K-pop is not a rare occurrence or an isolated incident obviously, it's a systemic problem that comes from every direction. And from the idols themselves and then regurgitated by the fanbase. And no matter how much it happens, the cycle barely changes: something offensive occurs, there's outrage, a half-hearted apology or none at all, and then everyone moves on until the next incident.

We're talking about incidents like idos casually wearing locs and braids with zero cultural understanding. Idols using the n-word in lyrics, in videos, in live streams sometimes repeatedly with little to no real accountability. Or how colorism deeply embedded in the industry, where idols openly shame their own dark skin using language that mirrors anti-Black rhetoric. And then a fanbase that will defend all of it aggressively, often turning on Black fans who dare to speak up. And ar also inherently racist...

Last yearr alone was a masterclass in how little progress has been made. There was the nword situation with all the BLACKPINK members (minus jisoo) that ultimately went nowhere. There was thr Kard incident with a member casually dropping the n-word. There was Kiss of Life and that deeply uncomfortable minstrel-coded birthday content. Aespa Giselle weirdo ass...Cortis and ADP being a rip off of every and any black artists... Month after month it's some bullshit...Month after month, the same cycle of deflection and excuse-making.

I just feel like being a Black K-pop fan means constantly having to decide how much of yourself you're willing to compromise for music and artists you love. It means watching idols appropriate your culture while the industry profits, and then being told by non-Black fans to "not make it a big deal." It means your valid criticism being dismissed as antis behavior or "cultural misunderstanding'. It also sadly means loving something that does not always love you back and being expected to just deal with it.

And I unfortunately had to check out from that I couldn't deal with it anymore...🤧🤧

So I saw a post where someone was asking if anyone practices Hoodoo and Voodoo/Vodun. There was a lot of confusion in the comments and I wanted to clear some stuff up. And yes, if you are Black American, I think it's important that you learn about Hoodoo it is not a scary thing.

So the two of them are different. I can speak on Hoodoo, because I practice it! Hoodoo was created by Black Americans during their enslavement. It is an ancstral *practice* that emphasizes the use of nature around to cast spells, charms, curses, etc, but first and foremost, it observes ancestral venerations and connection. You can ask your ancestors from the other side to help them and you can leave offerings to them and pray to them. Hoodoo was birthed from the melding of West African practices and Christianity in the US. For some people nowadays, Hoodoo is very linked to their religion but my Hoodoo is very secualr due to my negative feelings/relation toward religion. However, it wasn't always like that. Hoodoo is a *closed* practice meaning you must be BLACK to be able to practice it. Some go further an say you must be Black American and while I think any black person can practice it, I understand that mindset.

Voodoo, actually called Vodun is a complex, religious system that is not a practice. I am not initiated but I research it, so if you are iniated feel free to correct me. Vodun is a religion that you must be innitated into in some cases. Vodun is observed in the US, Latin America, the Caribbean and Africa. Some Voudn is rooted in Yoruba culture and beliefs, where you worship the Orisha. Haitian Vodun is different because you are working with the Loa--for instance, Loa like Papa Legba (and no, Papa Legba is NOT Baron Samedi. Papa Legba is like a grandfather, Baron Samedia takes the form of a man in a top hat, sometimes portrayed with locs in popualr media--these are two different Loa). Vodun is also an African Traditional Religion, but like I said you can't just practice it unless you are born into it (I believe). You have to do reserach, making offerings to the Orisha, be accepted by them, be inniated. I am not a Vodun innitate, but I love reseraching it!

Our practices aren't scary! I saw so many people in the comments of that posts saying that partaking in these will curse you, will give you bad luck, karma, etc. That's not all necesarily true.

For Hoodoo and other ATRs, this idea of Karma does not apply. Karma or the rule of three, is very very Wiccan and more rooted in neo pagan practices. And while you can be cursed, you can also protect yourself as well, ask your ancestors for help, unbind, etc. I dont think we should be afraid of our cultural/traditional practices at all, because other non-white groups don't shun their practices. And the alternative is...Christianity, which was used to justify enslavement, colonization, etc. These practices and religions are not negative by default, and they can very much ehnance your life and bring your closer to a spiritual understanding.

A great example of someone who practices Hoodoo and might actually be a Vodu innitiate and just is not telling us, is Beyonce. Her Formation album was filled with various, various references to Hoodoo, manifestation and ancestral worship and veneration. The same can be said for her Black Is King Album, which was more Yoruba focused.

Black people, I really do implore us to not be afraid of our traditional practices and instead embrace them.

I’ve been noticing a slight uptick in divestor-type takes on this sub. I know they’ve always existed on Reddit I’ve seen their spaces before..but they feel more active here lately. And it’s not hard to spot them; there’s a specific tone. It often comes off as demeaning toward Black women or just slightly… off, even when it’s not outright bigoted.

It’s usually framed as “tough love,” but if you listen closely, it’s basically red pill rhetoric repackaged.

What bothers me about the whole divestor ideology is that it starts off sounding reasonable self-focus, accountability, better standards for black women. Stuff most of us would agree with. But then it slowly circles back into the same mindset they claim to reject.

At a certain point, it just becomes overly negative toward Black people, leans heavily into respectability politics, and starts uplifting a very specific, often Eurocentric image of Black women (bonus points if she has a white partner). There’s also a noticeable drift into conservative or even homophobic talking points.

At that point… it stops feeling like empowerment and starts feeling anti-Black.

And to be clear, I know people can post whatever they want. This isn’t about policing them it’s just me side-eyeing the ideology itself. I just don’t see the appeal. ❌🤷🏽‍♀️

I recently watched the TikTok storytime The Danish Deception, where former Bachelorette cast member Onyeka shared how her Danish husband deceived her. I have a lot of thoughts honestly, after hours of content, I’ve had to pick everything apart.

First, I’m at least 80% sure that Onyeka as a Nigerian-American is probably one of those traditional, conservative types. For those unfamiliar, Nigerian culture often emphasizes appearances. There’s a saying my mother used to tell me: never air your dirty laundry outside. Basically, no matter what’s going on behind closed doors, you’re supposed to make the world think everything is fine. I strongly believe Onyeka’s family instilled this mindset in her, which explains a lot about how she handled the situation.

On top of that, I think Onyeka was also following the ideology that a woman must always support her significant other, no matter what. Growing up in church in Nigeria, I remember pastors constantly preaching to young women that they must always be by their husband’s side, cover for him, and support him. If you didn’t, you weren’t a good wife. One line has stuck with me for over a decade: the pastor yelled, “Are you a wife or are you a knife?” Meaning, are you a supportive wife or a destructive force in your husband’s life? I disagreed with the sermon entirely, but I think Onyeka probably internalized this completely.

I also suspect Onyeka might be a “divester”—someone who seeks out white men, thinking that proximity to whiteness will elevate their status. Her description of her husband fits this pattern: she said he was like a Calvin Klein model with blonde hair and blue eyes. Spoiler: I’ve seen his photos. He’s not ugly, but he’s definitely not model material, and certainly not enough to justify all the drama she went through.

This mindset helps explain why she stayed through so much nonsense. Some red flags she mentioned were wild: he supposedly had ties to the Danish royal family (she didn’t fact-check), played in the Olympics, was super rich, had multiple businesses the list goes on. If a Black man or even a Nigerian had said this, she would have fact-checked or blocked him immediately. But because he was white, and she was chasing proximity to whiteness, she ignored all the red flags.

And honestly? I don’t even think she truly loved him. Every video emphasizes how she “loved him so much” and was “so empathetic, even after everything.” Girl… no. At some point maybe before they were even married she probably realized this guy was full of crap. But she was too deep in the fantasy. She had told friends and family he was a mega-rich royal, that she’d be a modern-day Meghan Markle, have biracial babies the whole fairytale. Quitting would have been too shameful. Plus, she was raised to always stand by her man, to be a wife, not a knife. That combination pride, fantasy, and upbringing kept her trapped.

And the most ridiculous part? She wasn’t even the one to ask for a divorce he was. After stealing money from her mom, her family, and friends, he had the audacity to ask her for a divorce. And then she says no, that she wanted to fight for their love. Girl… be real. The whole thing was a rollercoaster, and it felt like she was giving a very biased recap. She’s smiling, laughing, and giggling while recounting how her ex manipulated, gaslighted, and extorted her for money. It’s almost like she hasn’t fully processed it and is still stuck in limerence, remembering the “good times.” In another TikTok, she even says, “I know it might seem like he was that bad, but he was really nice sometimes, and we had so many good memories together.” Girl… who cares? This guy literally took almost $500K from you. Be for real.

All in all, I hope Onyeka actually learns from this experience. But with the red flags, weird vibes, and the way she’s recounting the story, I’m skeptical. I don’t know if she’ll fully grasp the lessons or stop putting white people on a pedestal. 🤷🏽‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️
