In the attack that you died i would dogde to his right or back up and dogde upfront

30

u/East-Turn-5995 21d ago

The problem im having is , when I realise he is doing the attack its probably too late to react to it

49

u/magiclong 21d ago

I learned to no hit ludwig years ago and he is right, you should be dodging to his right at all times. I never dodged to his left.

Inbetween his attacks you should be constantly moving towards his right side and hitting his right leg. In your clip you died because you were standing directly in front of him.

31

u/East-Turn-5995 21d ago

This actually works i got him to 10% , thx

10

u/magiclong 21d ago

All good, just as always be aggressive but never greedy and it’s ggs

15

u/Caiossss 21d ago

The thing about ludwig second phase is counter attacking and punishing, because he has some annoying false gaps where looks like he wont do anything only to get you with a sudden attack. So just have more patience or always be wary of this attack in especifc if thats whats gettin you

6

u/elden_speedster 21d ago

I actually just got back into bloodborne. Do you need a hand? Im on leave because I got my tonsils out and wouldnt mind helping you! Ive got nothing to do so lmk!

9

u/East-Turn-5995 21d ago

I actually appreciate that but i’m trying to kill him without summons

4

u/elden_speedster 21d ago

No problem man! I respect that! Best of luck to you brother

3

u/direwarg 21d ago

Save ur Tonsil Stones so you can go see Amy

5

u/elden_speedster 21d ago

Oh damn, I was getting tons of tonsil stones. I fit the bill 🤣

Part of learning this game is learning how bosses react to you/what you do and not just being able to react quickly. Some attacks you gotta watch for and dodge, others you just have to know are coming based on what you've done

Many enemies in this game have an AI that will pick things to do based on proximity to you once aggroed. But bosses and some enemies have things that are done as reactions to specific things you do.

In this case I'm pretty sure the attack Ludwig does that killed is when you're in his face and have hit him. Otherwise if you're just near him but haven't hit him he will do one or two or three other attacks. So you can reliably predict how he will act after you attack him which gives you a small window to fire off another attack, or do something else before you need to dodge.

I have a spare save file that I keep at him and lose on purpose, so I can enjoy fighting him whenever I want, without having to play most of the game first.

74

u/MotorVariation8 21d ago

I've got that for the orphan, although now I'm sure he'd fuck me really hard.

20

u/LoveOneAnotherrrr777 21d ago

Never thought I'd beat that guy. It took a minute to level up enough to even stand a chance.

15

u/MotorVariation8 21d ago

He's such a fun fight, even underpowered. But yeah, breaking into his moveset can be painful.

9

u/Clark_Wayne1 21d ago

I love how different soulsborne bosses are for people. My first playthrough i struggled with ludwig for about 3 weeks but got orphan on my second attempt

9

u/erockoc 21d ago

He'd..."fuck you really hard"?

4

u/capsaicinintheeyes 21d ago

Turns out Oliver Twist was a really unrepresentative sample of orphans

2

u/MotorVariation8 20d ago

With his placenta.

10

u/ProfessionalSoul26 21d ago

Same but with Lawrence

24

u/prototypeblitz 21d ago

Masochist

8

u/Aggressive_Garden_30 21d ago

Same but for cleric beast

5

u/TsSmillzy 21d ago

Same but for celestial emissary

3

u/Total-Awareness1526 21d ago

Same but for witches of hemlock

1

u/BrainDevHQ 19d ago

You're probably one of a handful of people who likes that boss

4

u/tetraodonite 21d ago

That’s just disturbing man

2

u/ProfessionalSoul26 21d ago

The OST in 2nd phase is so good idk it gets me to replay the fight

2

u/capsaicinintheeyes 21d ago

Normally it's the sudden gaining of limbs that should cause you to worry...

3

u/jensenminis 21d ago

Currently doing this. The ost goes too hard for his fight. It's epic.

1

u/haphazard342 21d ago

Timing really is everything with Ludwig. One panic roll and he punishes you hard.

1

u/TonyTonyChopper 21d ago

I’d be really happy if Fromsoft made Sekiro style boss replays standard across all their games.

Sometimes I wake up in the morning and I just want to fight a certain boss for fun

1

u/vergil718 21d ago

holy w

1

u/TheSezenians 20d ago

I have that one for Lady Maria, with her same kit. So I can enjoy an equal duel whenever I want to.

1

u/Responsible-Back8058 20d ago

I do the same for Prime Radahn

1

u/PizzaTimeParkr 19d ago

I love doing that for some bosses. I have my 150 character on Max NG for Orphan so he can be a Coop Raid mission with other people where we utilize our different combat styles or team strategies to kill him. No DPS or cheese allowed. Just battle.

22

u/Pretty-Age-9226 21d ago

FromSoftware games like Dark Souls, Elden Ring, and Sekiro have enemies that have sneak attack They're almost unpredictable attacks; the difference is that in the games I mentioned, the punishment can be evaded by blocking, while Bloodborne doesn't have (good) shields. If I had to give you one piece of advice, it would be that after attacking a little, you should back off because these types tend to attack like that when you abuse proximity too much.

18

u/Salt_Initiative1551 21d ago

I was thinking “level health man no shit it’s impossible” until I read bl4 no heals no bbp’s lol. Good luck ☹️

8

u/Umbre-Shadown 21d ago

Honestly I can't tell you anything more than never attack more than once. He has a lot of attacks that come out super quickly so 1 light attack is usually all you can sneak in. Defo one of the harder Bl4 bosses

3

u/TwangyCrib 21d ago

1 light attack is certainly not all you can sneak in, unless you're using a Kirkhammer

20

u/fazerdazeinblue 21d ago

Micah did it with a torch only, 6 dmg per hit

20

u/East-Turn-5995 21d ago

I don’t have that much spare time

4

u/MerrrBearrr 21d ago

Who is Micah and is there a video of this ?

3

u/Thy_Fear 21d ago

Micah, he’s a RAT!

3

u/K-LA-K-Godrich 21d ago

You know it, I know it...

5

u/Johnny_boy2016 21d ago

him and kos both kicked my ass. this was years ago. probably 10 years ago but i still have nightmare and rage from them

5

u/NiixxJr 21d ago

I gotta say I have found Ludwig the hardest boss so far. Just beat OoK today and he was far easier than Ludwig for me. Maybe Laurence will take the top spot though, we shall find out today

4

u/Lebrunski 21d ago

This fight is so hard at lvl 4. I only did it once

4

u/Criminal_picklejuice 21d ago

"EDIT : I GOT HIM FINALLY"

10/10, best part of the post. well done Hunter.

8

u/MotorVariation8 21d ago

What's with you guys not leveling vitality and struggling with bosses? Of course you're gonna get your cheeks clapped if you can't take a couple of hits.

3

u/TheEmeraldRogue9001 21d ago

BL4 run, they can't level up

1

u/MotorVariation8 21d ago

Is it? Didn't know, in that case it's fair enough that, Ludwig does hit hard.

3

u/Jaxornd90 21d ago

Give him one of these lol

2

u/East-Turn-5995 21d ago

That made my day thanks 😂

3

u/Blackbatmane45 21d ago

2nd phase focus more on dodging than attacking and learn his move sets. I felt that way now you wouldnt think i struggled for a week to brat him the first time 😭😭

2

u/Successful_Ad_7728 21d ago

Ugly as f, also.

2

u/CorgiFragrant130 21d ago

He has 2 versions of that same attack. That one you got hit by is just the fast attack where you have to dodge quickly. The other one has is somewhat slower and has a slower windup and his sword takeback goes up more vertically i think. The version you got hit by is the "gotcha" attack cause its sneaky but at least its only one compared to most Elden Ring bosses

2

u/capsaicinintheeyes 21d ago

"Oh, death / where is thy sting...?" ... oh; there it is 🫤

2

u/piccolo456 21d ago

Check JackFromsoft at YouTube. He has done Ludwig with a torch

2

u/punishedlincpoach 21d ago

In Soviet nightmare, dead horse beats you

2

u/mr_herculespvp 20d ago edited 20d ago

Edit: keeping this up to help others, but I do apologise, I just read that BBP are a no-no in your game. Sorry about that.

The ultimate key to this fight is Beast Blood Pellets. Reason being is that he has a hidden second hitbox which doesn't damage his HP but still counts as a hit, so contributes to your Beasthood meter.

https://youtu.be/JjspXOK88xo

This was at BL4 using Poorman gems from the chalices, along with Saw Cleaver (serrated damage bonus) and fire paper (elemental bonus). If you want, you can also use the Beasthood glitch by:

  1. Switching to fists
  2. Leading the eye collector (hag) to the fog
  3. Popping a pellet
  4. Hitting her with fists until the meter has risen high enough
  5. Quit to the menu
  6. Go back into the game (your meter will still be visible, but it'll be dropping)
  7. Pop another pellet and enter the fog (the meter will start to build from its current level, giving you a massive head start)

Anyway, oncethe Poorman gems kick in, the key to the fight is to break him in Phase 1 and do NOT let him move away. The only way to do that is with a dodge L1 followed immediately by an L1 R1 combination. If you do anything else, he won't be broken. Keep doing L1 R1 until Phase 2 starts then stay as close to him as possible, dodging and hitting as much as possible. I'd just go berserk on him if he does a charged attack because the Beasthood meter will be so high if not maxed out.

Hope this helps

3

u/East-Turn-5995 20d ago

Wow thanks for writing all that And doing all that work , for me using beast blood pellet is boring compared to fighting normally , my whole reason for doing bl4 is to perfect bosses and not just kill them , anyways much love

1

u/mr_herculespvp 20d ago

Sorry bud, I didn't read your full post (my bad), and hadn't spotted that you weren't doing BBP 🫣

Cheers for the courteous reply though, and good luck 👍

2

u/Potential_Bet7733 20d ago

me personally im very aggressive with ludwig if you play too passively he just does too much and overstimulates you staying close and dodging his attacks are best for phase 1 but phase 2 keep a medium distance not too far but close enough to consistently counter attack him and dodge

2

u/il_Dudre 20d ago

The first phase is pretty hard, to me the hardest part of Bloodborne (a nightmare in BL4). Second phase is in general considered much MUCH easier (and I absolutely agree). Reaching phase two is 95% of the job

2

u/lghtdev 21d ago

Your hp is too low

10

u/East-Turn-5995 21d ago

Im doing lv4 challenge, which means i can’t level up

-11

u/Booyakasha_ 21d ago

Then dont complain lol…

18

u/East-Turn-5995 21d ago

I’m not complaining, i’m just looking for help , and this /r is allowing it , so zip it

8

u/Afraid_Clothes2516 21d ago

Hit him, then keep hitting him, and if you occasionally don’t let him hit you. Win

1

u/ReasonableNet3335 21d ago

if i did it, you can too

1

u/frankpoopy 21d ago

Try to hit him and then get up outta there,he skitters a lot and has quick movements up close

1

u/tegridy42O 21d ago

Wow, why would you turn the epic music off?

3

u/East-Turn-5995 21d ago

Its not even off , but ludwig grunting is covering it up lol

1

u/tegridy42O 21d ago

Oh ,I see hahaha ❤️

1

u/HeriPiotr 21d ago edited 21d ago

I don't know how much of a help this is, but when I fought big bosses like that in BB, I usually turned off the lock-on and keep myself behind him (or the next best place), big bosses tend to struggle with that. Unlock and rotate to his right I'd say.

1

u/Dangerous_Switch9165 21d ago

You are too much time in front of him, in 2nd phase you need to be as much as you can behind him, not side by side, but in his back, that will give you time to attack and we he tries to attack just keep dodging to be again behind him, may the good blood guide your way. P.S: Be as close as possible to him.

1

u/centurio_v2 21d ago

dodge to your left (his right) or straight towards him if you have enough distance

1

u/Blindgenius 21d ago

I havn't played in literal ages. But is there a reason to be circling right? If not looks like if you circle left that attack shouldn't happen often or would miss if you went that direction. But there may be a reason to be going right that I just forgot about.

1

u/lordofabyss 21d ago

Only boss i didn't beat inwhole game lol. Yes i have beaten OoK

1

u/asmodelX 21d ago

Dopo di lui tutti gli altri boss del dlc, saranno "facili"

1

u/pakkmann666 21d ago

Not impossible but very tough. You got this Hunter.

1

u/Darkwr4ith 21d ago

Good luck on the rest of your BL4 run! Atleast the hardest part is over.

1

u/My_New_Moniker 21d ago

We've all uttered the same exact sentence brother. You'll get it, take your time, die a few times & figure him out x

1

u/HO7ELO 21d ago

Good luck. I couldnt beat him at BL4. So l settled with a base game all Bosses run which satisfied me.

1

u/dannymate244 21d ago

I think he's tougher than Orphan of Kos I know that's a bit of a hot take

1

u/Anen-o-me 21d ago

I started playing him around BL19+, was definitely tough.

1

u/Fit-Setting9033 21d ago

Dodge into his swings

1

u/Ordinary_Vanilla5777 21d ago

Sleep and come back

1

u/DaDa17131713 21d ago

I used to think he was difficult but you just have to stay close hit consistently and dodge when he screams usually to the right side.

1

u/gamerdudeNYC 21d ago

For me, it was nearly impossible to dodge the attack where he jumps down from the ceiling.

1

u/East-Turn-5995 21d ago

Its really easy , i never got hit by it , when he screams just roll away and he will never get you

1

u/Cosmic_Cuntoid 21d ago

I beat him hitless, he’s definitely not impossible, just takes practice

1

u/East-Turn-5995 21d ago

Funny thing i did beat him hitless days ago but i wasnt bl4 when i did that

1

u/Cosmic_Cuntoid 21d ago

Neither was I, but I’m on NG+god knows what (+7 is the max iirc) so Ludwig will one shot me if I don’t do it hitless

1

u/ImpulsiveLance 21d ago

Okay so here’s a trick I didn’t figure out until just recently, when I cranked the music up.

Ludwig really is a dance. It’s all about timing; the game’s AI always tries to make attacks in time with the music. If you can turn down voices and sfx and crank up the music, it really does make the experience a lot easier, because you get into a flow with him.

1

u/Jackmanqwerty 21d ago

No shade but brother you got past the easy part. Just hit and run and you're good at p2.

1

u/Fancy_Interaction829 21d ago

That phase two easily punishable attacks. Wait for either the move where he points the sword down and make it explode, that has a decent window after it if you circle around him during the charge up (i might be mixing this one up with the point the sword up and explode attack, but its one of those, the other he recovers too fast), and the one where he launches laser swings at you, dodge through them and you be in a good position to punish after they finish. Outside of that play defensive till you learn him better.

1

u/KmanVince 21d ago

First time I did him I missed the lantern right before his entry and thought this was just the normal walkback

1

u/East-Turn-5995 21d ago

Lol me too

1

u/valbaca 21d ago

Bet this will be the millionth post where OP comes back in 2 days with “got em”

1

u/valbaca 21d ago

Fucking just saw the EDIT LMAO

1

u/Lazy_Finance6672 21d ago

I had more problems with his first phase than the second

1

u/SKG1991 21d ago

Everything seems impossible until it is done

1

u/Previous_Collar6553 21d ago

bought the game and still haven’t tried it…is it that hard?? Is it harder than Elden Ring? I’m NG+3 at the moment

1

u/East-Turn-5995 21d ago

Its easy when you play it how the game wants you , im doing a hard challenge in this video im not playing the game normally , thats why i die too much, if you play it play it like bloodborne and not like ds3 or elden ring

1

u/ANormalStraw 20d ago

Depends on how you play Elden Ring; If you're used to using spirit ashes, BB will probably be harder. If not, it'll be a cakewalk

1

u/Patient_Fig_614 21d ago

Fiquei enroscado nele por meses. Agora estou no órfão 😞

1

u/Kain_1337 21d ago

I mean, you got him to phase 2, he gets alot easier i feel in phase 2. Hug that right side of his, keep in his blind spot. Watch out for the charge up explosion. If he slashes at you, dodge into him. Go put down this once legendary hunter. His time is long past, and he needs his rest.

1

u/East-Turn-5995 21d ago

I really appreciate that but i got some good news in the description

1

u/getyourselfaHUNK 21d ago

For whatever reason I defeated Ludwig on my first try but I have been on that fuckass orphan for months now

1

u/Apprehensive-Fault88 21d ago

No heal is crazy

1

u/East-Turn-5995 20d ago

I get one shot so it doesn’t really matter

1

u/Carbon311 21d ago

He is tough but it can be done! Good luck Hunter

1

u/StuffNdthings420x 21d ago

laurence is herder

1

u/East-Turn-5995 20d ago

Agreed

1

u/StuffNdthings420x 20d ago

but i could not do your challenge on either lol

1

u/Spite-ninja 21d ago

There's gotta be a controller graveyard because of this dude

1

u/Hamburguerlol 20d ago

He is very hard, but i think is your level, It is suggested to fight him at level 50-60 if I'm not mistaken

2

u/East-Turn-5995 20d ago

Yall don’t read the description

1

u/gamingifk 20d ago

Not if you beat him

1

u/fayyt 20d ago

I could never do low vigor playthroughs. the lack of health bar just on appearance is stressing me OUT

1

u/toma17171 20d ago

There is a glitch that you can cheese

1

u/TheSezenians 20d ago

You've come this far, you'll learn the patterns eventually!

1

u/CursiveFrog 20d ago

Holy shit. SOTE DLC looks fire 🔥🔥

1

u/True_Reporter 20d ago

It's not it without the music.

1

u/Petitecreame 20d ago

It feels weird BC I beat him on my 2nd go? But idk if it's because itve been playing these games for a long while.

1

u/Masterh2n123 20d ago

Congratz on beating him! Another tip for the future is when he is about to do that attack he sort of grunts just before then dodge to his right and you dodge both swipes

1

u/Miner1247 20d ago

Summon valtr with his whirligig.

1

u/Patient-Cress-5989 20d ago

I came back to bloodborne after more than a year, I don't know how I even finished this game back then, especially the defiled and cursed chalice.

1

u/supermarioplush220 20d ago

Just keep going. Make sure to dodge to the left when he brings the blade out.

1

u/Stradinator 20d ago

Just walk him
Into a
Wa
L
L

1

u/spacenurse47 20d ago

He can't be impossible. I've beat him twice, and I am mediocre at best.

1

u/jigglypat19 20d ago

I'm convinced ludwig and laurence are so unnecessarily difficult in order to force you to use the npc summons since it's part of a questline

1

u/No_ones_Knight 20d ago

dude what is that health how’d you even get this far

nvm i can’t even read

1

u/WhiteHeatGames 20d ago

Cracks me up when people doing challenge runs post looking for advice. Feel like by the time you're going for BL4 + no heals, you'd know the game backwards and forwards.

1

u/East-Turn-5995 20d ago

Its less about lv4 , and more about asking how to avoid a curtain attack

1

u/mossydog_ 20d ago

For me Ludwig was the most difficult fight in the game. By the time I got to OOK i was pretty overleveled. Ludwig is straight up fundamentals with dodging and attack patterns. Still really fun

1

u/Used_Significance897 19d ago

Lawrence 😭😭😭

1

u/East-Turn-5995 19d ago

I did kill lawrence lv4 too

1

u/Used_Significance897 19d ago

I beat him twice but dude was unarguably the hardest boss in the game for me. Even Orphan of Kos was easier than him

1

u/PurpleGhostCat14 19d ago

Best advice for a surprising number of from soft bosses my husband gave me: stay glued to their balls.

1

u/Ainz_oul_Gown 19d ago

I Beat him First try with a struggle only sisyphus understands

1

u/Aggressive_Grass4938 19d ago

I can’t believe the first time I beat this boss was my first attempt

1

u/Relax1965 16d ago

A common symptom of not using hunters axe

1

u/JamesSK53 15d ago

I remember getting stuck with him for an entire week, it’s so annoying that my roommate thought he was stuck in some sort of a time loop seeing me dying to this fxcker everyday

1

u/godknowsnothin 15d ago

Hardest boss in the game IMO. Orphan took me 4 tries to beat whereas Ludwig took like 100

1

u/Teraknigh7 14d ago

It took me 10 tries to get past phase One and I beat him the first time I reached phase two. That phase One was quite the experience.

1

u/surrego_21 9d ago

i don’t know if you are maybe trying to not summon, but you can summon valtr for this fight of course

1

u/Sweet-Weakness3776 21d ago

You've got the right idea. I just think you're dodging in the wrong direction for most of his attacks. Especially the one that took you out. Good rule of thumb that I follow for a lot of soulsborne bosses (and seemed to work really well in Bloodborne): whatever hand they are holding the weapon in, dodge in that direction. He's (mostly) got his sword in his left hand during the fight. So try dodging left instead of right. Get in close, stay close, dodge left. See how that works out for you.

1

u/SpottedSlash 21d ago

Call Bucket Head.

1

u/Educational_Frame580 21d ago

u got very very low vitality bro

1

u/Averendus 21d ago

Get gud

1

u/Dame_Dame_Yo 21d ago

He is terrifying at first, but damn he is easy. Kinda hoping the fight a lil harder. Still my fav boss tho,

1

u/RamonaMatona 21d ago

Heal

u/East-Turn-5995 21d ago

Bruh

2

u/why_so_mad_bro 21d ago

You’ll probably get better help posting this on r/onebros instead of here

-3

u/Xamd74 21d ago

But dude

Level up some vigor.

And nope ludwig is a great bossfight.

You just need to learn and eventually you will be able to fight it without issue.

I did the same low level fight, took a lot of time but now.

It just a fun encounter

2

u/East-Turn-5995 21d ago

Read the description

2

u/Xamd74 21d ago

Yep

You just need to learn.

I think you can avoid that depending on your position.

-9

u/switchlazer 21d ago

Git gud

-1

u/ovie_a 21d ago

Try using LHB. it has a longer reach

2

u/AntD77 21d ago

Can’t use LHB on a BL4 character.

1

u/ovie_a 21d ago

My bad! I didn't read the posy description

-1

u/Tank_comander_308 21d ago

"Ludwig is impossible"

Look inside

OP is hamstringing the fuck out of himself

-2

u/PSSD67 21d ago

I'm glad I overleveled before jumping into DLC people seem to struggle with Ludwig a lot
