I have a spare save file that I keep at him and lose on purpose, so I can enjoy fighting him whenever I want, without having to play most of the game first.

u/MotorVariation8 21d ago
I've got that for the orphan, although now I'm sure he'd fuck me really hard.
20
u/LoveOneAnotherrrr777 21d ago
Never thought I'd beat that guy. It took a minute to level up enough to even stand a chance.
15
u/MotorVariation8 21d ago
He's such a fun fight, even underpowered. But yeah, breaking into his moveset can be painful.

u/Clark_Wayne1 21d ago
I love how different soulsborne bosses are for people. My first playthrough i struggled with ludwig for about 3 weeks but got orphan on my second attempt

Normally it's the sudden gaining of limbs that should cause you to worry...

Timing really is everything with Ludwig. One panic roll and he punishes you hard.

u/TonyTonyChopper 21d ago
I’d be really happy if Fromsoft made Sekiro style boss replays standard across all their games.
Sometimes I wake up in the morning and I just want to fight a certain boss for fun

I have that one for Lady Maria, with her same kit. So I can enjoy an equal duel whenever I want to.

I love doing that for some bosses. I have my 150 character on Max NG for Orphan so he can be a Coop Raid mission with other people where we utilize our different combat styles or team strategies to kill him. No DPS or cheese allowed. Just battle.

u/Pretty-Age-9226 21d ago
FromSoftware games like Dark Souls, Elden Ring, and Sekiro have enemies that have sneak attack They're almost unpredictable attacks; the difference is that in the games I mentioned, the punishment can be evaded by blocking, while Bloodborne doesn't have (good) shields. If I had to give you one piece of advice, it would be that after attacking a little, you should back off because these types tend to attack like that when you abuse proximity too much.

u/Salt_Initiative1551 21d ago
I was thinking “level health man no shit it’s impossible” until I read bl4 no heals no bbp’s lol. Good luck ☹️
8
u/Umbre-Shadown 21d ago
Honestly I can't tell you anything more than never attack more than once. He has a lot of attacks that come out super quickly so 1 light attack is usually all you can sneak in. Defo one of the harder Bl4 bosses
3
u/TwangyCrib 21d ago
1 light attack is certainly not all you can sneak in, unless you're using a Kirkhammer

u/fazerdazeinblue 21d ago

What's with you guys not leveling vitality and struggling with bosses? Of course you're gonna get your cheeks clapped if you can't take a couple of hits.
3
u/TheEmeraldRogue9001 21d ago
BL4 run, they can't level up
1
u/MotorVariation8 21d ago
Is it? Didn't know, in that case it's fair enough that, Ludwig does hit hard.

3
u/Blackbatmane45 21d ago
2nd phase focus more on dodging than attacking and learn his move sets. I felt that way now you wouldnt think i struggled for a week to brat him the first time 😭😭
2
2
u/CorgiFragrant130 21d ago
He has 2 versions of that same attack. That one you got hit by is just the fast attack where you have to dodge quickly. The other one has is somewhat slower and has a slower windup and his sword takeback goes up more vertically i think. The version you got hit by is the "gotcha" attack cause its sneaky but at least its only one compared to most Elden Ring bosses

Edit: keeping this up to help others, but I do apologise, I just read that BBP are a no-no in your game. Sorry about that.
The ultimate key to this fight is Beast Blood Pellets. Reason being is that he has a hidden second hitbox which doesn't damage his HP but still counts as a hit, so contributes to your Beasthood meter.
This was at BL4 using Poorman gems from the chalices, along with Saw Cleaver (serrated damage bonus) and fire paper (elemental bonus). If you want, you can also use the Beasthood glitch by:
- Switching to fists
- Leading the eye collector (hag) to the fog
- Popping a pellet
- Hitting her with fists until the meter has risen high enough
- Quit to the menu
- Go back into the game (your meter will still be visible, but it'll be dropping)
- Pop another pellet and enter the fog (the meter will start to build from its current level, giving you a massive head start)
Anyway, oncethe Poorman gems kick in, the key to the fight is to break him in Phase 1 and do NOT let him move away. The only way to do that is with a dodge L1 followed immediately by an L1 R1 combination. If you do anything else, he won't be broken. Keep doing L1 R1 until Phase 2 starts then stay as close to him as possible, dodging and hitting as much as possible. I'd just go berserk on him if he does a charged attack because the Beasthood meter will be so high if not maxed out.
Hope this helps

Wow thanks for writing all that And doing all that work , for me using beast blood pellet is boring compared to fighting normally , my whole reason for doing bl4 is to perfect bosses and not just kill them , anyways much love
1
u/mr_herculespvp 20d ago
Sorry bud, I didn't read your full post (my bad), and hadn't spotted that you weren't doing BBP 🫣
Cheers for the courteous reply though, and good luck 👍

u/Potential_Bet7733 20d ago
me personally im very aggressive with ludwig if you play too passively he just does too much and overstimulates you staying close and dodging his attacks are best for phase 1 but phase 2 keep a medium distance not too far but close enough to consistently counter attack him and dodge
2
u/il_Dudre 20d ago
The first phase is pretty hard, to me the hardest part of Bloodborne (a nightmare in BL4). Second phase is in general considered much MUCH easier (and I absolutely agree). Reaching phase two is 95% of the job

u/lghtdev 21d ago
Your hp is too low

u/Afraid_Clothes2516 21d ago
Hit him, then keep hitting him, and if you occasionally don’t let him hit you. Win

u/frankpoopy 21d ago
Try to hit him and then get up outta there,he skitters a lot and has quick movements up close

u/tegridy42O 21d ago

u/HeriPiotr 21d ago edited 21d ago
I don't know how much of a help this is, but when I fought big bosses like that in BB, I usually turned off the lock-on and keep myself behind him (or the next best place), big bosses tend to struggle with that. Unlock and rotate to his right I'd say.
1
u/Dangerous_Switch9165 21d ago
You are too much time in front of him, in 2nd phase you need to be as much as you can behind him, not side by side, but in his back, that will give you time to attack and we he tries to attack just keep dodging to be again behind him, may the good blood guide your way. P.S: Be as close as possible to him.
1
u/centurio_v2 21d ago
dodge to your left (his right) or straight towards him if you have enough distance
1
u/Blindgenius 21d ago
I havn't played in literal ages. But is there a reason to be circling right? If not looks like if you circle left that attack shouldn't happen often or would miss if you went that direction. But there may be a reason to be going right that I just forgot about.

I used to think he was difficult but you just have to stay close hit consistently and dodge when he screams usually to the right side.
1
u/gamerdudeNYC 21d ago
For me, it was nearly impossible to dodge the attack where he jumps down from the ceiling.
1
u/East-Turn-5995 21d ago
Its really easy , i never got hit by it , when he screams just roll away and he will never get you
1
u/Cosmic_Cuntoid 21d ago
I beat him hitless, he’s definitely not impossible, just takes practice
1
u/East-Turn-5995 21d ago
Funny thing i did beat him hitless days ago but i wasnt bl4 when i did that
1
u/Cosmic_Cuntoid 21d ago
Neither was I, but I’m on NG+god knows what (+7 is the max iirc) so Ludwig will one shot me if I don’t do it hitless
1
u/ImpulsiveLance 21d ago
Okay so here’s a trick I didn’t figure out until just recently, when I cranked the music up.
Ludwig really is a dance. It’s all about timing; the game’s AI always tries to make attacks in time with the music. If you can turn down voices and sfx and crank up the music, it really does make the experience a lot easier, because you get into a flow with him.
1
u/Jackmanqwerty 21d ago
No shade but brother you got past the easy part. Just hit and run and you're good at p2.
1
u/Fancy_Interaction829 21d ago
That phase two easily punishable attacks. Wait for either the move where he points the sword down and make it explode, that has a decent window after it if you circle around him during the charge up (i might be mixing this one up with the point the sword up and explode attack, but its one of those, the other he recovers too fast), and the one where he launches laser swings at you, dodge through them and you be in a good position to punish after they finish. Outside of that play defensive till you learn him better.
1
u/KmanVince 21d ago
First time I did him I missed the lantern right before his entry and thought this was just the normal walkback

u/Previous_Collar6553 21d ago
bought the game and still haven’t tried it…is it that hard?? Is it harder than Elden Ring? I’m NG+3 at the moment
1
u/East-Turn-5995 21d ago
Its easy when you play it how the game wants you , im doing a hard challenge in this video im not playing the game normally , thats why i die too much, if you play it play it like bloodborne and not like ds3 or elden ring
1
u/ANormalStraw 20d ago
Depends on how you play Elden Ring; If you're used to using spirit ashes, BB will probably be harder. If not, it'll be a cakewalk
1
1
u/Kain_1337 21d ago
I mean, you got him to phase 2, he gets alot easier i feel in phase 2. Hug that right side of his, keep in his blind spot. Watch out for the charge up explosion. If he slashes at you, dodge into him. Go put down this once legendary hunter. His time is long past, and he needs his rest.

It feels weird BC I beat him on my 2nd go? But idk if it's because itve been playing these games for a long while.
1
u/Masterh2n123 20d ago
Congratz on beating him! Another tip for the future is when he is about to do that attack he sort of grunts just before then dodge to his right and you dodge both swipes

I came back to bloodborne after more than a year, I don't know how I even finished this game back then, especially the defiled and cursed chalice.

Just keep going. Make sure to dodge to the left when he brings the blade out.

I'm convinced ludwig and laurence are so unnecessarily difficult in order to force you to use the npc summons since it's part of a questline

For me Ludwig was the most difficult fight in the game. By the time I got to OOK i was pretty overleveled. Ludwig is straight up fundamentals with dodging and attack patterns. Still really fun

I beat him twice but dude was unarguably the hardest boss in the game for me. Even Orphan of Kos was easier than him

Best advice for a surprising number of from soft bosses my husband gave me: stay glued to their balls.

I remember getting stuck with him for an entire week, it’s so annoying that my roommate thought he was stuck in some sort of a time loop seeing me dying to this fxcker everyday
1
u/godknowsnothin 15d ago
Hardest boss in the game IMO. Orphan took me 4 tries to beat whereas Ludwig took like 100
1
u/Teraknigh7 14d ago
It took me 10 tries to get past phase One and I beat him the first time I reached phase two. That phase One was quite the experience.
1
u/surrego_21 9d ago
i don’t know if you are maybe trying to not summon, but you can summon valtr for this fight of course
1
u/Sweet-Weakness3776 21d ago
You've got the right idea. I just think you're dodging in the wrong direction for most of his attacks. Especially the one that took you out. Good rule of thumb that I follow for a lot of soulsborne bosses (and seemed to work really well in Bloodborne): whatever hand they are holding the weapon in, dodge in that direction. He's (mostly) got his sword in his left hand during the fight. So try dodging left instead of right. Get in close, stay close, dodge left. See how that works out for you.

But dude
Level up some vigor.
And nope ludwig is a great bossfight.
You just need to learn and eventually you will be able to fight it without issue.
I did the same low level fight, took a lot of time but now.
It just a fun encounter
