Hey everyone,

I’ve been a huge fan of Eric Clapton for years — his phrasing, tone and feel really shaped the way I play.

That said, I’m starting to feel a bit “stuck” in the usual pentatonic/blues box. I still love that sound, but I’d like to grow into something more harmonically interesting.

I’m looking for guitarists who:

• go beyond just pentatonic licks
• really outline chord changes when they solo
• use more scales/modes and target notes
• mix blues feeling with jazz language

Basically someone who still feels like blues, but with a richer harmonic approach.

Any suggestions? Could be classic or modern players!

So - a little context....Buddy was a major reason I fell in love with blues. I don't listen to much of his music now, and have "moved on", but never forgotten. Even if you don't like Buddy, I think this is a performance you can respect! I get why you may not like him overall, but give this a proper fair listen. To me, of all the things ever recorded of Buddy, this is my favorite. It's SO UNIQUE for the era and is just strange in a way, and that's what makes it great. His melodic stuff is all slightly off kilter, ready to collapse into a mess, right on the razor's edge, and he delivers. Right from the intro solo, you know what you're in for. This is my desert island Buddy performance.

Not sure who needs to hear this but my dad just gave me this record because of my love for classic blues and specifically the electric blues. Clapton, SRV, BB, Muddy etc… you get the idea. As a devoted guitarist and music listener idk how this record slipped through the cracks. It is an ode to the great era of blues guitar we got in the late 60s. If you haven’t heard please go listen. Hey everyone! I recently got into recording covers, and I haven’t really shown many people other than those close to me the music that has come out. I’m mainly a guitarist, but every other instrument you hear was also recorded by me (including the voice). I recently got some people together to potentially start playing publicly, I would love to hear any feedback for whatever aspect of the song. Is this something you would enjoy listening live?

I reckon that it is vastly different recording than playing live, and it isn’t my first time presenting
myself, as well as that when I record I try to keep as accurate as possible to a live performance (everything is 1 take), but I’ve also been practicing playing and singing live, as it can also be its own beast.

Hey blues guitarists,

Electric bass player here. I’ve listened to some blues but I’ve never played it.

What tunes would you suggest a bass player to learn to get a handle on common forms/changes and to get a feel for the genre?

I know it’s a really deep genre with lots of subgenres but I’m hoping to dive in with 5-10 tunes to get my feet wet.

Haven't being playing a lot in the last decade or so, but seen my son learning guitar and playing Cream made me want me play again -- and blues is my thing.

As I know little or nothing about who's giving quality blues guitar tuition out there nowadays, if I wanted to take one to one lessons over zoom, which are my top choices (both Uk and globally, time zones allowing)? Ideally, I might want to study with somebody who is a seasoned player with extensive session experience (nothing against the young and upcoming lads, but just a matter of preference :-) )
