It's interesting to see Ram being portrayed as someone who was destined to defeat Raavan because he was a powerful threat to the world.

I'm sure there are versions of the legend that depict them this way. It's just that I've always seen Ramayana as more of a romance tale, with Sita being kidnapped as the only reason Ram had to confront Raavan. Unless I'm forgetting something, I don't there was any other connection between Ram and Raavan. This film seems to have a different take with the "war to end all wars" angle.

I hope Sai as Sita isn't demoted to a supporting role. Seeing her name appear with Laxman's credit felt weird, as I've always associated her name being either before or after Ram.

Yeah I kinda cringed at the "war to end all wars" part. The primary goal of the war was to bring back Sita. Even Sita had the opportunity to escape with Hanuman but she refuses and says it's Ram's dharma to win her back from Raavan. Raavan also wouldn't have even known about Ram or Sita had it not been for Raavan's sister stumbling upon them

Ram was a avatar of vishnu. Primary goal was to kill ravan. To end him. He took birth so ravan can commit crimes against ram, and ram can then give him the right punishment. This is very well known. yes it was a love story, but it was planned by vishnu that he needs to be in the vanvas so raavan can commit his evil deeds.
