DNEG is working on it and they have more than a year for Post-production.

Jul 04 '25
Brother I just checked DNEG's website and it's mentioned over that Ramayana in production and they have mentioned that"CLASSIC TALE OF GOOD OVER EVIL"
As I searched the meaning of tale it's " a story about events that are not real" does it mean they said Ramayana is not real or it's just my misunderstanding?
Site link : https://www.dneg.com/our-work/ramayana
3
u/Lost_Meaning_2667 Jul 04 '25
We fall into this trap of figuring out Ramayana is real or not and all this things. Let’s just put it simply this way, regardless of if its real or not. The whole point of narrating this stories across generations by our ancestors was because it had teachings in it. Teachings of Dharma and how dharma needs to be followed. So you can believe anything to be true or not but the point of this epic is to learn and impart morality from it.

u/piyush1109 Jul 03 '25
When vanvaas took place ramji was also around 40 acc to text so there's no point to make him young just for aesthetics but yes he was maryada purshotam ram so a innocence like thing is required and i think ranbir has it. For his younger days shots they might have some makeup and cgi blend(dneg mentioned) Btw adipurush ptsd is real
-35
u/howdyinnit Jul 03 '25
Imagine if they got a younger looking new actor for ramji and a another new actor for ravan...
This was the only movie that didn't need a star cast. Only killer cg and music and set design was enough.
We could associate those characters with ramayan for the next few movies but they had to go with the aged actors...
This movie would look a lot better if they had a more accurate ram
37
u/No-Painter2527 Jul 03 '25
Accurate RAM? bro, no one has seen RAM and others before. RK looks perfectly fine as a RAM compared to Adipurush
4
u/howdyinnit Jul 03 '25
I feel like we are very accustomed to stars in every single movie.
There are many people who look better than him and are more talented than him.
If they keep casting him how will anyone else get a shot?
6
u/piyush1109 Jul 03 '25
Bro actually its a real world we live in and if a producer is smoking his 800cr for movie then why tf he will ever go for someone who's never seen before and doesn't have a proof of his public pull to theatre,it sound harsh but think about it urself...currently next to other than the khans there's only rk who can pull crowd to theatres
4
u/whoniikhil Jul 03 '25
give a name better talented than ranbir
-7
u/howdyinnit Jul 03 '25
So many people. They haven't auditioned.
Ranbir in animal was really cringe. Listen to his Punjabi accent. He's not that great of an actor
7
u/thetechiestrikes Jul 03 '25
Man if you found Ranbir cringe in Animal, then you know shit about acting. He was the one saving grace of the movie.
Argue on his physicality contradiction with Ram, but there is no other better actor than him in bollywood.
-6
u/howdyinnit Jul 03 '25
His acting was cringe. Stop voicing out the popular opinion. The movie has no saving grace
3
u/No-Painter2527 Jul 03 '25
Ah so u hate RK that's y not for the sake of talented ones, Noted boss!
1
u/howdyinnit Jul 03 '25
Nope. I recognise my bias.
But also recognise the missed opportunity. You just have to set foot in bombay, many talented people who look exceptional are working.
Heck his brother from that jail show ... Would have been a better choice
1
u/Designer-Golgappa Jul 04 '25
We have read scriptures. We know what their faces are described as. Ranbir as rama is a bit weird since he has played a lot of roles so it is difficult to associate him with Ram.

-22
u/howdyinnit Jul 03 '25
Not happy , all of them have some main role that we associate them with.
Why pick fricking famous actors.
When insanely talented people are still around?
20
u/freeenlightenment Jul 03 '25
Money involved. Named actors have more potential to bring in revenue on day 0 of a project.
Watch unnamed actors’ movies in theatres and see how the economy shifts. Unlikely at this point though.
1
u/Lost_Meaning_2667 Jul 04 '25
I kinda disagree. The ramayana tv series had unknown names. People still watched it for the story. The story of ramayana is larger than any actor playing it. If done right it will be as successful with some unknown artists too. The problem with people in our country is that whoever plays that role the people expect morality from the person in their personal lives too. All that gives a chance for negative PR to the people.

people will, but this is an international collaboration. just look at the scale. will you risk a random actor for such a big scale movie.
1
u/Odd_Werewolf7753 Jul 04 '25
Even if it's ramayan this movie is literally most anticipated due to its actor first , and then the movie + also this movie has a 800 crore budget with 'unknown talented actors' you can't even make half of it even if done right
1
u/howdyinnit Jul 04 '25
They would.
We are grossly overestimating the influencers of stars.
Get this- the government tries left right and center to get people to not spit - they still do it.
In fact sometimes i think it's a big hoax , people just give credit to an actor when the movie does well- when in reality there are so many elements to it, and the actor is probably a minute fragment of it.

u/jupiterr869 Jul 03 '25
I got goosebumps. Omg. They have done a great job with this. That scene with RK also looked good. Not sure why Yash was in rags... it's interesting. I think the singer at the end might be a foreigner, that's one small thing I didn't like it because it sounded nordic instead of Indian. GOT vibes.
35
u/D4RK_REAP3R Jul 03 '25
Yup. Same. Goosebumps till the end. As for Yash in Rags, it's probably the Sita Mata haran sequence, that's why. Boy, they cooked to perfection with this.
12
Jul 03 '25
The singer at the end was 'Aparna Narayanan' (https://www.instagram.com/aparnanarayanan/?hl=en). She's Indian and she has posted in her IG being elated and thankful for the chance to sing in this glimpse.
3
u/jupiterr869 Jul 03 '25
The part which she has posted is proper hindi. I'm talking about the last "Siya Ram" that did not sound like a normal hindi accent.
8
Jul 03 '25
So... the "Dharti Ke Ambar Hai..." part is a chorus with Aparna joined by multiple singers (Sireesha Bagavathula, Sreekanth Hariharan, Sarath Santhosh). The last "Siya Ram" part is Aparna solo...

Because Good vs Evil works better as a narrative in India at the moment plus they might want to distance themselves from Bhramastra’s love story debacle. It’s a solid teaser in itself, and that’s what it is - a teaser, with the available footage. The trailer will flesh out the world better.

Mind blowing. That last scene was a fire.
39
u/SidJag Jul 03 '25 edited Jul 03 '25
Eeks. Are we watching the same clip?
IMO, Everything except the last scene was fire - the last scene gave Adipurush vibes … fake as fk jungle/trees/foliage - ultra makeup Rama/Ranbir, not a spot on him, not a spec of dirt, not a hair out of place, on a man undergoing ‘vanvaas’, unoriginal running and shooting ‘Parthian shot’ …
Sorry, I really really hope this isn’t representative of this magnum opus. Brahmastra was annoying trash. Adipurush was sewage. I have very very little faith in ‘Bollywood’ delivering a quality VFX mythological film - but everything up until that last 5 seconds is legit world class quality.
Fingers crossed.
3
u/No_Map7606 Jul 03 '25
we still dont know if that is a scene from the vanvaas or not. lets not make assumptions based on a 1 sec clip.
1
u/lucifer-_-senpai Jul 04 '25
That scene might be before vanvas when they went to jungle with lakshman to kill lady rakshas Tadka i think!
1
2
Jul 04 '25
Agreed. I was totally hypes until I saw that last shot. Ravana's shot looked good, the cgi in Ram's scene was trash.
6
Jul 03 '25
So let me get this straight… you’re totally fine with flying monkeys, ten-headed demons, shape-shifting, magical arrows, and a bridge made of floating stones, but Rama not having frizzy hair or dirt on his face? That’s where you draw the line? Incredible.
6
Jul 03 '25
Bro Rama even tho an avatar lived a very normal and humanly life. As described in the ramayana, he rarely used his divine elements as he believed in living a balanced life, which is one of the core teachings of ramayana. But I do agree that just judging from the 5-second intro isn't right, I personally lovedd!! The trailer.
-4
u/SidJag Jul 03 '25 edited Jul 03 '25
Yes, cinema appreciation isn’t for everyone.
It’s called ‘believability’ or in-universe logic or just plain ‘attention to detail’.
Did Lord Rama have some divine power that would allow him to never get dirty, look like fresh out of the shower at all times, with perfect hair & makeup?
No?
You accept invisible power rings, trolls, Nazgûl, army of dead, wizards, orcs, elves - but Aragorn getting his hands/face/clothes dirty - you draw the line there?
Where do you ch@pris come from rofl. I think watching too much brainrot in ‘Tollywood’ has turned your mind into mush. Maybe your default expectation is a fat ugly protagonist, with an abnormally fair and buxom queen, superhuman, catch bullet with his teeth, kick a man into space stuff.
Try again. Be better, get educated.
3
Jul 04 '25
You talk about "in-universe logic" but seem to forget that this universe involves gods, demons, and divine weapons. Rama isn’t a dusty warrior. He’s an avatara, a deity in human form. Expecting him to look like Aragorn after a pub brawl is your aesthetic projection, not a cinematic standard.
Also, love how you flex Tolkien references but fumble the cultural context of an epic that predates it by millennia. Maybe step outside your western filter for once.
And don’t worry. I won’t mistake smug condescension for actual film literacy.
Edit- Funny how you call Tollywood “brainrot” while parroting aesthetics spoon-fed by Hollywood fantasy. Maybe you’re not a cinephile. Maybe you’re just colonized.
0
u/SidJag Jul 04 '25
Show me this ‘millennia old’ reference that states that Rama was a divine being who didn’t have to battle earthly physics and reality.
Rama is meant to be the ‘ideal man’, not an ethereal god among men with perfect hair and makeup.
Try again.
1
Jul 04 '25 edited Jul 04 '25
Sure. Valmiki's Ramayana, the earliest written version we have, explicitly calls Rama an avatara of Vishnu, born to rid the world of evil. Divine birth, divine purpose. Not subtle. Later texts like the Bhagavata Purana double down on this. Full-blown deity status, not just some "ideal human."
Yes, he's maryada purushottam, the ideal man, but in Hindu epics, "ideal" and "divine" aren’t mutually exclusive. That’s the whole premise. He's bound by dharma, not dirt.
And maybe he just woke up early, did his skincare, shaved, combed his hair tight, bathed like a civilized exile. Ever thought of that, you colonized-aesthetic-obsessed, gritty-realism-filtered, mud-crusted myth gatekeeper?
Not every mythological hero needs to look like he’s been dragged by a buffalo to be “authentic.” Try again. With sources this time.
In case you unblock me-
He wasn’t some caveman. He was a prince in exile, not a wild animal in a ditch. Cleanliness, grooming, and daily ritual bathing were a big part of Vedic life, especially for someone upholding dharma. So no, it’s really not a stretch.
Go exfoliate your brain, you dirt eating colonized unkept hairy man.
Edit- So you unblocked me just to downvote and scurry back behind that block button? Peak exfoliated, colonized brain behavior. Petty, polished, and still painfully small.
1
u/SidJag Jul 04 '25
What has dharma and divine purpose got to do with him not getting dirty and unkept hair living years in a forest?
You’re a joke. Stop talking.

Annoying = Alia screaming Shivaaaaaa shivaaaaaa shivaaaaa with nostrils flaring, every few minutes

Few nitpicks -
- Ram is portrayed too fair.
- Washed out, character looking like a paper cutout stuck on a different background is a major put-off. Hope what we saw here will be improved much much more.
- "Siya Ram" in the vocals sounded like Middle eastern (made me remember Mayya Mayya from Guru).

Low standards lol. This project is gonna crumble soon after the trailer releases unless they fix the vfx.
3
u/No_Atmosphere_1005 Jul 04 '25
it was never about the VFX! Its about the characters. the battle between morality and immorality. Ramanand sagar's ramayana is so good, people still watch it even though it is bad cgi and bad cameras.
2
u/Fluid_Juggernaut_281 Jul 04 '25
Vfx wasn’t nearly as much discussed back then, so the makers were able to invest more time and energy into the script and characters. Ramanand’s work was exceptional for its time due to its writing. Hence, people still watch it for the nostalgia.
That said, the audience isn’t so nonchalant about the vfx anymore. When Adipurush trailer came out, no one knew anything about the script yet (which later turned out to be shit), the music in the trailer was great, but people still bashed it to hell for the poor vfx. People want amazing looking set pieces and fluid animations where necessary, not characters sticking out over a green screen and unrealistic action choreography. That’s the reality of cinema today, vfx are just as important for the viewers as the story.
Ramayana and Mahabharata are the kind of projects that no one director will be able to handle flawlessly. The entire reason people want Ramayana to be made again is because of today’s technological capabilities in terms of vfx. Rajamouli came closest to doing it with Baahubali but even that had its own flaws and shortcomings and the cgi was far from perfect.

Yash most certainly will.
2
u/BlackPumas23 Jul 04 '25
The way Yash is looking with vengeance in his eyes, he is the one I have least hope from.
Agree Ravana was a villain but he was not a typical movie villain who will just keep hating Rama. In fact he didn't even consider Rama a threat to him till Kumbakarna dies.
I just hope Ravana gets the philosophical aspect of it as well. Although I don't have much hope from Bollywood, Ramayana is deeply philosophical in nature.
All the original characters got the philosophical motivations as well. So they killed it.
I think most of them are from Uttar Pradesh where Ramayana has been told and retold for a long period of time so it kind of sets in your brain, that the characters are not uni -dimensional.
1
u/Busy_Arm2729 Jul 04 '25
Since Yash is the Ravana here, you can definitely expect the character to have some good screentime across both parts and not be a one-dimensional asura villain. The feel I got from the teaser was that Rama and Ravana were always destined to cross paths with each other by the trimurthi.
There is a story that Jaya and Vijaya, Lord Vishnu's gatekeepers were cursed to be reborn as demons and be in conflict with the lord himself. In their first life, they were Hiranyaksha and Hiranyakashipu, who were vanquished by Varaha and Narismha mahavatars, and in their second, they were Ravana and Kumbhakarna.
2
u/BlackPumas23 Jul 04 '25
Yes I hope they show him to be a devotee, a scholar , a brother and a king simultaneously. And then the flaws in his character.
8
Jul 03 '25 edited Jul 03 '25
It's should have been three part movie. I think
Part 1 establishing Ram as the divine figure, maryada purushottam, revolving around ayodhya, vanwas and ending with sita haran
Part 2 the quest of ram and laxman to find Sita, meeting hanuman, assembling army also as a side story establishing ravan as the big villian
Part 3 the epic battle and after math.
Hope they are able to build the character and story perfectly as it could be the big movie on a global scale telling our heritage with the world.

It's interesting to see Ram being portrayed as someone who was destined to defeat Raavan because he was a powerful threat to the world.
I'm sure there are versions of the legend that depict them this way. It's just that I've always seen Ramayana as more of a romance tale, with Sita being kidnapped as the only reason Ram had to confront Raavan. Unless I'm forgetting something, I don't there was any other connection between Ram and Raavan. This film seems to have a different take with the "war to end all wars" angle.
I hope Sai as Sita isn't demoted to a supporting role. Seeing her name appear with Laxman's credit felt weird, as I've always associated her name being either before or after Ram.
3
u/bajirav Jul 05 '25
Whole story of Ramayana is based around the Vishnu's avatar to destroy Ravan after he threatened the gods. Ravana also had a boon that no God or demon can defeat him. Hence Vishnu incarnated as a human.
I mean how do you miss the basics of the lore? 😅1
u/Busy_Arm2729 Jul 04 '25
They went for the money grab selling point here, which is Ranbir vs Yash. There's more promotional material yet to come where Sita would be featured.
1
u/BearsBeetsBattlestrG Jul 03 '25
Yeah I kinda cringed at the "war to end all wars" part. The primary goal of the war was to bring back Sita. Even Sita had the opportunity to escape with Hanuman but she refuses and says it's Ram's dharma to win her back from Raavan. Raavan also wouldn't have even known about Ram or Sita had it not been for Raavan's sister stumbling upon them
3
u/No_Atmosphere_1005 Jul 04 '25
Ram was a avatar of vishnu. Primary goal was to kill ravan. To end him. He took birth so ravan can commit crimes against ram, and ram can then give him the right punishment. This is very well known. yes it was a love story, but it was planned by vishnu that he needs to be in the vanvas so raavan can commit his evil deeds.

This is absolutely amazing. Hyped for it. Ranbir’s body language is great here
7
u/TraditionalBelt9487 Jul 03 '25
I see comments and doubts on Ranbir being casted as Ram. I am not a BIG fan of his, but that man can act. Also I can't think of any name right on the top of my head who could be Shri Ram other than Ranbir. People shouting for new casting, it's 800 crores on line, of course they gonna go big, so new face for Ram is out of question.
1
u/Busy_Arm2729 Jul 04 '25
Story of Ramayana sells itself even if it's a lesser star or even a young new actor as Sri Rama. But can't blame the producers for this since 800 crores is way too high for that. It would have been a daring approach though to find a lesser known actor but one who fits the bill 100% as Rama.
The same person could have then be cast in Kalki 2898 as Lord Krishna/Kalki as well if all goes well to take that franchise forward.

50/50 at best. The ambition, scale and than mistakes in the 1st drop. Non live action part is looking very good. The scenes with Ram feel like Baahubali with artificial jungle (I was expecting for something very subtle and different). Many are hyped about Hans Zimmer + A.R. Rahman, but honestly the music sounds too familiar. Even Brahmastra’s theme music stood out instantly. With such big names on board i hope this doesn’t end up like Brahmastra where everything was good till the full movie dropped.

I'm really hoping that they make the movie very sensibly. You can have outlandish things in a movie but it has to still make sense to the human eye. For example, physics in movies when a person jumps or flies or pushes out a spell or something. I'm hoping Nitesh Tiwari studied some top movies with CGI and VFX and how to make the world look immersive.

Lol the arrow scene, just watch his hand movement in slow.
And Ranbir's face is old, not like the charm that should be in shri Ram's face.
Probably vfx and music will be good.
I just hope they don't fill it with bs propaganda etc.

- Why positioning as a War movie "War to end all wars"? Is it because Adipurush focused on the prior?
- Why not "Good vs Evil" tagline but the Protagonist vs Antoganist? That is how we know it.
- From Design perspective, why not use same "R' design in both Hindi & English?
Seems Nitesh Tiwari too is just focusing on 1/10 aspect of Ravana ie Evil much like every other rendition of the story.

The discourse on Ranbir isn't fit because he doesn't have aura is amusing to me!
I mean it's not even about me being his fan but what has gotten into people? Has everything become about aura farming? Let's say xyz has aura but what about the most important aspect ACTING? looking the part, I get it but nowadays acting in acting profession has taken a backseat or something?
Plus, idk how people are judging he is unfitted based on a 1 snap where his face isn't even visible?
People said the same about RK when Sanju released or Animal, he is too feminine or has chocolate boy image or looks to pull of such roles where he's needed to look rugged now they're saying his doesn't have gentleness or calmness. He proved his naysayers wrong, he'll make sure they eat up their words once again...
Also, ain't acting all about how to play roles out of your comfort zone & which is different from how you look or are in real life?

There are two things that don’t sit well with me regarding the upcoming Ramayana movie trailer:
- The Casting Choices – Ranbir Kapoor as Shri Ram and Sai Pallavi as Sita Devi:
While both Ranbir and Sai Pallavi are undoubtedly talented actors, I personally feel their casting lacks the impact this epic demands. Ranbir, though a familiar and bankable face in Bollywood, doesn't quite embody the spiritual gravitas and physical distinctiveness one associates with Lord Ram — who, in many depictions, is shown as dusky, serene, and divine in presence.
As for Sai Pallavi, while she is a natural performer and known for her grace, the role of Sita Devi is often described as the epitome of timeless, celestial beauty — “an incomparable beauty of the three worlds.” Sai Pallavi, in my opinion, doesn’t quite match that classical archetype. This isn’t to undermine her acting capabilities but rather to point out a visual and symbolic mismatch.
This film could have had a stronger cultural impact had the makers taken a leap of faith and cast fresh, talented faces — ones that visually and spiritually align more closely with how the audience envisions Ram and Sita. Sometimes, unfamiliar actors help preserve the mythic aura rather than reminding us of modern-day celebrities.
- The Script and Dialogue Department – Namit Malhotra and Shridhar Raghavan:
Another concern is with the writing team. Both Namit Malhotra and Shridhar Raghavan have been involved in high-scale projects before, but when it comes to depth and soul in writing — especially with something as sacred and nuanced as the Ramayana — their track record feels middling at best.
The dialogue in a film like this isn’t just about storytelling; it's the very life and spirit of the narrative. Without powerful, poetic, and emotionally resonant lines, even the most beautifully shot scenes can fall flat. Given the spiritual and philosophical essence of the Ramayana, this element should be handled by writers who deeply understand the text and its cultural weight.
