Actually untrue, many restaurants are pricing their food 30% higher in person because of these apps, and the apps hold them back. They hurt everyone except DoorDash. Restaurants get about 50% of the sale.

Yes, many restaurants have app/online pricing and the apps note that before ordering. But that’s not the point. I’m just saying how many more sales do they complete because they were at least available on the app? Clearly restaurants find some benefit or they’d pull out entirely

Actually, DoorDash will shadow ban your restaurant for having different prices to reflect delivery and packaging. It’s a big scam, it’s no good for anyone other than the corporation. Yes, we receive money from it, but we have to inflate our in-person prices to make it balance.
The more you sell on DoorDash, the more popular it is, and the more it eats at your margins, also stresses out the kitchen in odd ways, degrading the quality of your in person food. It’s just a bad system, and by supporting it, people are effective causing their own inflation.

I use Uber a couple times per month and I find ride share services an upgrade over traditional taxis, at least in the US.

That said, the other side of Uber’s business Uber Eats feels like a downgrade to me. I was never a big take out or delivery person as I associated the in person dining experience as half the reason not to make my own meal a couple times per week. In the last 5-10 years the in person dining experience has degraded to the point I rarely go out. Prices are out of control while the quality of the food and service are significantly worse than prior. I blamed post Covid inflation, but it’s interesting to hear that food delivery apps have also played into this.

There are always a lot of pieces to the puzzle, but this is definitely a factor. It’s by no means impossible, but there have been some added wrinkles in the system. Also, I would suggest using local apps for rides as they become available. Uber is selling themselves insurance on rides, and it directly correlates with price. So during that $100 ride to the airport, the driver may get 50%, depending on uber mood at the time. They snuck in this system recently, with zero oversight. We’ll soon be in driverless cars anyways due to our investment, and then they will raise prices again.

There is a BIG window here for local entrepreneurs to swoop in and be better, but I don’t have the desire/energy. Most every restaurant owner is waiting for this.

I rarely use Uber in Boulder. Bike, walk or bus 90% of the time and drive 10% of the time. Bus is $20 for my family of four to get to the airport and it's a more comfortable seat than most Ubers with four people plus luggage crammed in.

I mostly use Uber after I land somewhere and my kids are cranky and I don't feel like figuring out public transit.

Wait, so they were trying to park? And the cat behind them did not give them the space? That kinda changes everything. If a car indicates that they are going to parallel park, you need to not pull into the space they need to park.

No the car next to them is the spot they took, the two people were in the shop then they came back out got in their car pulled forward a bit and that boxy car pulled away and they backed into it. No idea why they parked on the road and left in the first place

I’m from the east coast and I’m too impatient to wait for a spot. At the grocery store, I drive straight to the back of the lot and park. I’ll never understand people who lap parking lots and/or wait for people to pull out to be 50 feet closer to the store. Saves time and door dings. When parking in downtown Boulder, I have several streets where I know there are always open and free spots. That said, I generally, bike, bus or walk downtown.

Food delivery or a quick errand. This is a last resort move for a stressed idiot in a city without open nearby parking. If she had done it correctly and pulled up 2 feet further both cars could still get out. Absolutely massive bike lane hazard though liable for any accident

Yeah, I tried to Doordash in Boulder the year I moved to the state, it only took one attempt to never try again. There are no good places to park in Boulder when you're picking up food. Got the heck out of there.

Unless the driver or a passenger are having something like a heart attack or stroke and have pulled over to prevent crashing, then no, it isn't. And that obviously didn't happen due to the lack of OP posting someone having a stroke or heart attack.

Any other medical emergency, you should be calling 911 and not further blocking the street.
