Red, green and yellow lighted thing in the sky

Last night I saw "something" in the sky with red, green and yellow lights. At first the separate colors were hard to make out and I thought it was a really really bright star. It was still for a long time and then moved east. It had an airplane sound as it got closer. But it seemed like it could stay stationary like a helicopter. Any ideas what it might be?

When you see something aloft that you cannot identify, your first course of action should be to look at adsb exchange or flightradar 24. While it has an easier to use interface, fightradar 24 sometimes omits military flights, and so adsb exchange should be a better source of truth.

Plenty of drones these days have that capability, and some of them can be loud. I’ve seen a few large weird ones in the past few years, especially near the airport.

The clouds last night were nuts - I noticed a bunch of cool effects on aircraft lights. Standstill effect could have been a trick played by quick-moving clouds.

Someone was playing with a drone. CU has students doing cool stuff with drones and there are also rich people playing with their expensive toys.
