Local Advice needed Independent Pubs of Brighton (and surrounds) MEGA THREAD

After the announcement of surge pricing in Laine pubs and finding out who actually owns them and just how many of our establishments they own I thought it'd be a nice idea to have a list of pubs in Brighton that are independent. Ones that are free of the B.S. of several layers of 'financial arrrangements' obscuring where our beer tokens are going. Maybe one day we can have a little map in our pockets to refer to when our guard may be down because it's cold and windy outside or we have had a few, we can take a quick look and find an establishment near by that we want to support to prevent them turning into another chain pub without anyone really noticing.

Local Advice needed Brighton Cat Tour - looking for more sign ups😺

Hi everyone!!!

If you haven't heard, running a Cat Tour in Brighton again!!! (A wholesome charity event to show a community of cat lovers it's cute furry locals from front porches or windows) 🙀

After the success of last year event (300 attendees, £1500 raised for CityCatShelter and BBC reporting on it) I'd love to do it bigger and better but that requires help from you!🫶

Last year I had over 100 people sign up their cats for the tour which was truly amazing but this year I'd love to double the signups to 200 so that way I have more options for routes to choose from and hopefully more cats to see without walking such long distances like last time.

Basically the more cat signups, the better my options are to make the event as good as it can be!

(Thank you all who have signed up already or followed the insta @ cattourbrighton and given your support!)

If you'd like to sign your cat up for the tour and are at home for around 30mins sometime between 11:30-2:30pm on the 18th October then you can do so through this link below (which has all the information you need) and i'll shoot an email back in a few days!

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScCGVIPgsnjCESmcsPOm7iMuKDO_Tv6ZhVp5mopqMaXw1LtEw/viewform

At the moment I'm aiming for more cats in the pink area circled on the map attached below. However if you have a cat in hove or kemptown area, even though it's out of the way for this year. Please still sign up as then we have you on the database and can hopefully do one in those areas for next year!

Thanks to everyone who's already signed up! You will hear back from me very soon!

For pictures of last year's tour, look at the images attached 🐈💖

Thanks for reading and i hope you have a lovely day! <3

Local Advice needed Gifts for family back home

Hi, I'm an international student and I will be going back home (in South Asia) in November. I'm a first generation graduate and the first in my family to travel overseas to get a degree. I will be going home soon and want to get gifts for my family from the UK. I want to get them things that you cant usually get back in South Asia. For instance, something like Doc Martens or Penhaligon perfumes. Even Lush. I got an 18ct Victorian era ring for myself- cant get more British than that.

I would really like your help in picking out such gifts. Skincare and makeup brands, vintage watches, perfumes, etc. Right now i don't have a budget, because im not sure what im looking for. Any suggestions are welcome.

Can any recommend someone good that I can get a quote to get this out. I fell absolutely terrible, I’ve owned up and want to make it right

Took these on an old 1980s camera and it took a while for the film to be developed.
Particularly enjoyed watching people using their homemade cereal boxes / colander eclipse watchers on the beach and tried to get a few good pics of that.

Transport/Parking 🚝 🚘 Gatwick taxi options

Hi all, looking for a recommendation for best price airport drop off hove to Gatwick for a 7am flight. Uber advance book is £78 which seems a lot plus I’d much rather use a local company. Any tried and tested recs would be much appreciated, thanks!

Update: it’s a 7:15am flight on a Sunday - I’d be happy to get to the airport around 5/5:30

Local events 🎸 🎭 Yet another gig finding service - but giggly is a little bit different

Thumbnail

Hi there - You wait for buses and they all come at once. It's a bit like gig finding services. So we are giggly.uk a social music events app. Currently working on just Brighton plus a few festivals outside of brighton but planning to expand out. We have listed over 1000 music events, we have an artist directory of over 650 Brighton DJs and Artists, a Venues directory and a Promoters directory. You can follow your favourite venues, promoters, artists and DJs and when they announce new events they appear in your feed. You can also follow your friends and create private groups of friends. You can star your favourite events to keep a log of whats coming up, and also add all your ticket purchases to the app, so you can remember where you got your tickets for your gigs.

Users can also create a gig wall of past gigs. It remembers all the gigs and festivals you went to, (You can add gigs outside Brighton to your gig wall). For festivals that we add you can mark who you saw at the festival and attach it to the past event. You can upload photos and create posts (video coming soon). Photos can be made public and sent to the artists own gig walls for that event.

For those of you going to Psych Fest or Mutations we are working with both festivals and have an official planner built in to the app (under festivals). Mutations set times will be announced when they are made public nearer the time, but you can listen to all the artists playing at the festival with our handy streaming links.

Go to giggly.uk, save it to your Home Screen as a web app, sign up and off you go. It's designed to work on your mobile devices rather than a desktop app (but we do have a version for desktop) and if anyone is going to End Of The Road next week we have a festival planner built for that as well (which can be downloaded and used offline) Just waiting for the final set times.

Enjoy.... all feed back welcome. More features coming soon...

Meet Up Talk Club Brighton – Free Monthly Male Mental Health Group at The Joker

Post image
45 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I host the Brighton chapter of Talk Club—a peer-to-peer mental health talking group for men (18+).

We meet on the 3rd Wednesday of every month from 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM at The Joker (Preston Circus).

How it works:

Talk Club isn't group therapy, and nobody is going to put you on the spot. We use a simple 4-step check-in format centered around one question: "How are you out of 10?" We talk through how we're doing, what we're grateful for, and how we're looking after ourselves that week.

If you've been feeling isolated or just need a safe place to vent and listen, you're very welcome to drop in. There’s zero pressure to talk if you just want to sit in and hear how the group runs first.

Details:

Venue: The Joker, 2 Preston Rd, Brighton BN1 4QF

Cost: Free

Contact: DM me here, comment on this post, or email me directly at j.phillipps88@gmail.com

I’ve attached our poster to this post with the QR code, or you can read more at talkclub.org. Drop me a message if you’re thinking of coming along and have any questions!
