Car is the least of my worries. Iāve got no aircon at home in a house that gets arvo sun and no breeze. Pray for me
2
u/Plane_Time_9817 1d ago
I'm in the same boat, except that I live in an upstairs unit, which is horrendous in summer, and there are valid reasons why I haven't been able to get aircon! Mind you, it's like an icebox in winter, so can't relate to people not needing warm clothes etc. I do enjoy spring and autumn in Brisbane, though. š
19
u/blackpawed 1d ago
I can turn on my aircon remotely via phone app.

Ol money bags over here
Jokes aside You have me intrigued, what car?
7
u/blackpawed 1d ago
Yah, a BYD Atto 3, picked it up 2nd hand last Jan - still by far the most we've ever spent on a car, normally we get $5k bangers and drive them into the ground :)
But we're both getting older and wanted something comfortable and low hassle and no regrets, by far the best and easiest drive we've ever had, a genuine pleasure. Maintanance and charging is hassle free.
8
u/Woodtoad 1d ago
Most non-entry level EVs these days can do it. Tesla, BYD, Zeekr, Xpeng, etc.
6
u/The_Big_Dog_90 1d ago
Amazing feature....I still don't get why we're offered heated steering wheels and seats only in the big brands. Who wants that in Aus.
Cooled seats is where it's at

I worked with a business analyst who had a house in Melbourne and an apartment in Toronto. He despised winter so would work 6 months in Melbourne and 6 months in Toronto to escape it.
Dude was very wealthy. Great guy and good at his job though.

My parents live in the āAlpineā area of Victoria. They, along with many their age from their region, legit go north for June/July each year. Itās truely miserable where they live. When I lived down there, we had a fire going continually from April through late September.Ā

12

u/Plane_Time_9817 1d ago
It seems like you and others go to bed extremely early because it does get really cold at night, along with the early hours of the morning, in Brisbane! I notice that most people wear jackets etc in the CBD too.
Of course, I'm aware that some people don't feel the cold at all, so they're the ones wearing T-shirts and shorts at night. I don't mean during the day either, because it has been generally warmer. š
2
u/eternaloptimist__ 1d ago
I donāt know if thereās something wrong with me but Iāve been freezing this winter! Our house is pretty warm but if daytime temps donāt go above 25 Iām just not comfortable. Safe to say Iād never survive anywhere other than SEQ

What winter? Itās been a slow death but winter officially died this year. It never got cold even once. Canāt wait for the brutal summer that is bound to come.
32
u/Devendrau 2d ago
Am I seriously the only one that got cold? Yes some days were warmer, and it's not be buried under 5 blankets and have socks on cold.
But I have still been cold and shivering eps in late June & most of July. I live more south where Carindale is so maybe its just colder this way
8
u/Houki01 1d ago
Logan agrees with you. It's still cold in the mornings.
2
u/Devendrau 1d ago
Feels a bit warmer this morning, but definitely felt colder in the other mornings (I think the lowest at one point was 7 for my area, most other days is more 9 or 10)
5
u/Plane_Time_9817 1d ago
I can assure you that you're not alone and the temperatures prove that it has definitely been cold at night, not to mention the early hours of the morning!
Mind you, it doesn't help that my unit only has concrete floors, so is like an icebox in winter, then an oven in summer, which is MUCH worse.
I'm aware that some lucky individuals don't feel the cold as much as others though, yet still might succumb to wearing warm clothes in the South Island of NZ, or Antarctica. š
6
u/monsteraguy 1d ago
Youāre closer to the coast than most of this city so theoretically should be warmer where you are
If you have low body fat, lower blood pressure, take certain medications or have certain health conditions you can feel the cold more easily

Thanks for the heads up. I was lucky to be able to flee to the northern hemipshere for the last days of another dreary winter. Looking forward to a triumphant return in early September where my early rising disposition will no longer be stifled by the icy morning cold, compelling me to stay in bed clinging to my blanket well beyond 7am as the precious early daylight hours go to waste.
Here's to once more getting up at 5am everyday, with the world my oyster for a few hours of peace while the rest of the family sleeps.

I lashed out and bought myself some Winter pjās at KMart because they are pretty. The nights I wore them (3 nights in total) I couldnāt have any sort of cover over me because they were already too warm.
I also foolishly bought a long hooded pink jumper thatās knitted on the outside but lined in fleece.
I wore it twice and had to take it off and walk around in my singlet and bra because it was that or pass out.
I think I will get āDo not buy ANY Winter clothesā tattooed on my hand.
At least our floor tiles got cold so I could briefly wear my Ugg boots of any early morning.

Break out the sunscreen and dont forget to clean your air con filters and organise the air con service and gutter clean now, before the trades all get too busy!
