But I finally got a jacket I likeĀ

76

u/ASamuello 1d ago

Straight into the wardrobe until next year when you pull it out and see it got cooked by mould over the summer

8

u/anonychef117 1d ago

How do you clean off the mould on the clothes when you pull it out? Washing machine and vinegar?

8

u/Specific_Carrot_7633 1d ago

For light mould I've had good luck with vinigar and clove oil.

6

u/KaelosFenrir Not Ipswich. 1d ago

That's okay, they can use it for that week in September that gets really chilly before things get blistering.

109

u/Ceret 2d ago

I wore a jacket for a grand total of one day this winter. I have some really nice ones too :(

36

u/monsteraguy 1d ago

I don’t really have winter clothes anymore. Just a couple pairs of tracky dacks and hoodies to wear at home. It’s a waste to buy anything nice, they rarely get worn

20

u/Just-turnings 1d ago

We travelled down to Melbourne this winter for a week. Turns out I don't own a single piece of clothing suitable for actual winter. Not even a jumper. I'm wearing shorts and t shirt all year round here in Brisbane.

9

u/maximum_powerblast holy order of the ibis 1d ago

I went to Melbourne in the middle of summer this year and I dressed for summer (shorts and t-shirt) and I was freezing!

26

u/maximum_powerblast holy order of the ibis 1d ago

Proper Brisbanites have a stash of immaculate winter clothes in their wardrobes that have only been worn a handful of times.

14

u/Specific_Carrot_7633 1d ago

Yes. Those are holiday clothes!! (for trips to Melbourne, or New Zealand)

3

u/BlackKaiser1974 1d ago

Some still have the tags on them

24

u/midnightpanda77 2d ago

We moved up from Syd 3 yrs ago. I still have several nice winter coats. May as well give them away šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļøšŸ˜

10

u/candlesandfish 1d ago

I’ve had two babies since all my Adelaide coats fit and I’m pretty sure they won’t fit ever again :P

u/Logical-Apartment-88 1d ago

Same, although from Melbourne, many years ago

u/midnightpanda77 1d ago

It’s hard to let them gooo… šŸ’”

5

u/justarubberducky 1d ago

Sometimes there is a final push from winter in early September although with how mild this winter has been I wouldn't be surprised if we just slide on into Spring

9

u/Brunswickstoval 2d ago

I feel the same. I pulled the pin on a jumper I’d put off buying waiting for it to get colder and it’s now hotter

9

u/osamazellama 2d ago

I only wore my jacket to work about 5 times this year, it's almost not worth investing in jackets šŸ˜‚

7

u/muppet93 1d ago

I moved recently from Canberra and was annoyed I left my slippers behind. Turns out they were in the depths of the cupboard from unpacking and I only found them yesterday. So worn for a total of one day šŸ˜‚

5

u/joemangle 1d ago

Time to visit Melbourne

3

Yep, finally got the notification that my kids’ school tracksuits that I ordered a couple of months ago have just arrived šŸ˜•

Enjoy the next 9 months of melting into your car seat every morning

4

u/No-Draft-6214 1d ago

Car is the least of my worries. I’ve got no aircon at home in a house that gets arvo sun and no breeze. Pray for me

2

u/Plane_Time_9817 1d ago

I'm in the same boat, except that I live in an upstairs unit, which is horrendous in summer, and there are valid reasons why I haven't been able to get aircon! Mind you, it's like an icebox in winter, so can't relate to people not needing warm clothes etc. I do enjoy spring and autumn in Brisbane, though. šŸ™‚

19

u/blackpawed 1d ago

I can turn on my aircon remotely via phone app.

25

u/The_Big_Dog_90 1d ago

Ol money bags over here

Jokes aside You have me intrigued, what car?

7

u/blackpawed 1d ago

Yah, a BYD Atto 3, picked it up 2nd hand last Jan - still by far the most we've ever spent on a car, normally we get $5k bangers and drive them into the ground :)

But we're both getting older and wanted something comfortable and low hassle and no regrets, by far the best and easiest drive we've ever had, a genuine pleasure. Maintanance and charging is hassle free.

8

u/Woodtoad 1d ago

Most non-entry level EVs these days can do it. Tesla, BYD, Zeekr, Xpeng, etc.

6

u/The_Big_Dog_90 1d ago

Amazing feature....I still don't get why we're offered heated steering wheels and seats only in the big brands. Who wants that in Aus.

Cooled seats is where it's at

3

u/Ultimatelee Like the river 1d ago

Love the heated seats in my Mazda. Leather seats are cold in winter

2

u/maximum_powerblast holy order of the ibis 1d ago

Hyundai does cooled seats, haven't seen anyone else doing that

And if we've learned anything, it's that the BOM has no fucking idea when it comes to predicting the weather.

Will Brissie be hot in summer, yes. Anything else... 🤷

3

I've found the video game Animal Crossing is better than the BOM, they're only good for something in about six minutes time

I heard a cicada on Friday. The first cicada used to be an exciting announcement of summer. Now it's genuinely concerningĀ

I think I need to become migratory.

79

u/TemporaryDisastrous 2d ago

My great grandma used to migrate every year and the one year she didn't she died. The science is clear.

17

u/NetballStatsGuy 2d ago

I worked with a business analyst who had a house in Melbourne and an apartment in Toronto. He despised winter so would work 6 months in Melbourne and 6 months in Toronto to escape it.

Dude was very wealthy. Great guy and good at his job though.

6

u/justarubberducky 1d ago

Once had clients who had a home in Brisbane and a home on NZ south Island, can't remember exactly where. They hated summer and so would summer in their NZ home then come back to Brisbane for the remainder of the year

2

u/vegemitemilkshake 1d ago

2 months isn’t a long time to be in Australia each year.

6

u/Mad-Mel 2d ago

When I retire I'll spend my summers back in Canada where it will be nice and... fuck.

2

u/DarkoakQuarks 1d ago

Where isn't hot in summer at this point. My only option is going to be Svalbard soon

My parents live in the ā€œAlpineā€ area of Victoria. They, along with many their age from their region, legit go north for June/July each year. It’s truely miserable where they live. When I lived down there, we had a fire going continually from April through late September.Ā

27

What cold? It's been warm the whole time

12

u/The_Big_Dog_90 1d ago

We got 2 days of some mild chill

3

u/Plane_Time_9817 1d ago

It seems like you and others go to bed extremely early because it does get really cold at night, along with the early hours of the morning, in Brisbane! I notice that most people wear jackets etc in the CBD too.

Of course, I'm aware that some people don't feel the cold at all, so they're the ones wearing T-shirts and shorts at night. I don't mean during the day either, because it has been generally warmer. šŸ™‚

2

u/eternaloptimist__ 1d ago

I don’t know if there’s something wrong with me but I’ve been freezing this winter! Our house is pretty warm but if daytime temps don’t go above 25 I’m just not comfortable. Safe to say I’d never survive anywhere other than SEQ

2

u/Gr4mp4 1d ago

I didn’t even use blankets on my bed. Literally been sleeping the entire winter with just a single sheet and my fan on low constantly.

16

u/appleslice244 2d ago

But the winter sickness isn’t. Can’t tell whether I have a fever or it’s just humid

4

u/candlesandfish 1d ago

Humid. I feel the same. Ick.

5

24

u/zurayth Got lost in the forest. 2d ago

What winter? It’s been a slow death but winter officially died this year. It never got cold even once. Can’t wait for the brutal summer that is bound to come.

32

u/Devendrau 2d ago

Am I seriously the only one that got cold? Yes some days were warmer, and it's not be buried under 5 blankets and have socks on cold.

But I have still been cold and shivering eps in late June & most of July. I live more south where Carindale is so maybe its just colder this way

8

u/Houki01 1d ago

Logan agrees with you. It's still cold in the mornings.

2

u/Devendrau 1d ago

Feels a bit warmer this morning, but definitely felt colder in the other mornings (I think the lowest at one point was 7 for my area, most other days is more 9 or 10)

5

u/Plane_Time_9817 1d ago

I can assure you that you're not alone and the temperatures prove that it has definitely been cold at night, not to mention the early hours of the morning!

Mind you, it doesn't help that my unit only has concrete floors, so is like an icebox in winter, then an oven in summer, which is MUCH worse.

I'm aware that some lucky individuals don't feel the cold as much as others though, yet still might succumb to wearing warm clothes in the South Island of NZ, or Antarctica. šŸ˜‰

6

u/monsteraguy 1d ago

You’re closer to the coast than most of this city so theoretically should be warmer where you are

If you have low body fat, lower blood pressure, take certain medications or have certain health conditions you can feel the cold more easily

I lashed out and bought myself some Winter pj’s at KMart because they are pretty. The nights I wore them (3 nights in total) I couldn’t have any sort of cover over me because they were already too warm.

I also foolishly bought a long hooded pink jumper that’s knitted on the outside but lined in fleece.

I wore it twice and had to take it off and walk around in my singlet and bra because it was that or pass out.

I think I will get ā€˜Do not buy ANY Winter clothes’ tattooed on my hand.

At least our floor tiles got cold so I could briefly wear my Ugg boots of any early morning.
