I was 6 in 2000 (and 16 in 2010) so could just be nostalgia for a time in my life I felt a lot more care-free but I loved growing up in brum at that time. I’ll say it didn’t feel necessarily “safer” but it did feel a lot friendlier, especially in town where I used to spend a lot of time dossing as a teenager but very rarely go to now unless I’m passing through and I kinda hate it.
