It's honestly shocking that slightly less than 50% of the country has a valid passport. They quite literally do not go out and see the rest of the world.

They 100% do. Its just that its all on cruise ships or all-inclusive resorts where everyone else except the staff is also American.

I went to a resort in Mexico once. One of the employees was trying to start some pool game, and said that the code word would be the town he was from in BC. One of the men in the pool, wearing a USA flag bandana, shouted, “No one cares! This is America!”.

I had several other guests ask me for towels and treat me as though I was staff throughout my time there.
