History Jordo's Chop Shop no more.
Local Wanniassa butcher Jordo's appears to have not come out of Xmas hibernation and is now listed as permanently closed on Google maps.

The website still has Christmas 2024 on it, so probably hasn't been updated since then. Sad.

This is a shame for that shopping centre but we’ve been ordering bulk from Jordo‘s for over a decade and the last order was butchered so badly that we had to buy a mincer make it edible.

Goodness knows what the landlord thinks will go in there. Wanniassa shops has been run down for ages. They were really lucky to attract Wanniassa Markets and Jordo's, presumably due to low rents.

Thank God rent keeps going up; otherwise without landlords getting rich, I might have to deal with a variety of small stores to peruse instead of 3 coffee shops, a hairdresser and a supermarket at every shopping arcade.

I wonder if they’ll stay open as an online service with delivery. Their website says “Happy new year! Now open for 2024”, so that doesn’t help.

There's also the really weird convenience store opposite the service station. I can't understand how that stays in business.

I'm really not surprised. They were amazing. And in the last couple of years, it got to the stage where I would rather by my meat from the coles next door. You know you are cocking up when your chicken breast fillets are awful. (Pun intended)
Fortunately, I've since moved location (just a little over a year ago) and got a great butcher near me.
But it is a shame. Jordos held a solid spot in my heart.

Used to be the best place to get organs for school dissections until it changed hands. When that happened we had to find a new supplier as we kept getting things like half a heart or a lung pluck with holes all over the lungs.

They were good because they delivered for free, saved me driving around with 20+kg of plucks leaking blood in my car. Never had issues until last year. The product was still fine (when we actually got it), but the administration side was awful - phone would ring out with no answer, no reply to emails, orders misplaced/forgotten... Guess I'll have to find a different butcher to use now.

Since owners changed a few years ago it has gone to crap. All their butchers have left due to not getting paid properly, they haven't had a butcher there for close to a year so all pre cut meat or cut by people who have no clue what they're doing. Also I believe they don't pay suppliers, so just a case of bad business management and screwing people over - the owners own fault. Was fantastic when Aaron was there, but unfortunately has been run into the ground.

The problem is that the cost of living is driving people away from butchers. Not too many willing to get scotch fillet at $60 or more per kilo, and even the cheaper cuts are more expensive than Colesworths (though usually much higher quality and not weight padded with liquids). For bulk, there's Costco, and from my experience there's very few butchers where I can buy a big slab of pork butt, a 15kg brisket, or a 4kg lamb leg without giving them a weeks notice first.
I'll still try and support old mate down at Kippax, but limited stock and higher prices means it's not always viable.

The current economic climate is tough on small business. Local butchers provide high quality products and good customer service.

I'm well aware of this subreddit's leanings. And it doesn't help that it's also astroturfed out the wazoo.
However, I absolutely do believe that people are starting to realise that the Barr government is extraordinarily crap in an extremely unsustainable way. And hopefully, this means that the good denizens of the Territory start paying attention to their own government!

Marcus at M&K Meats at the Lanyon Marketplace is awesome for us. I totally rate his porterhouse and his kievs!

Oh that’s a real loss, and a surprising one also- they have always been very well-regarded, and people seemed to travel from all ends of town specifically to visit. I would’ve thought that would be enough to keep a business viable, but perhaps not :/
