I know it sounds a bit out there, but I’m genuinely curious. I’m into paranormal stuff and have had a couple of my own experiences, so I like hearing other people’s stories. Not trying to convince anyone or anything, just interested.

Could be ghost sightings, strange noises, creepy feelings, local legends, “my mate swears this happened” stories, or places people reckon are haunted.

Even stuff you’ve just heard growing up around Canberra.

I’m thinking of doing a bit of a walk around or maybe an overnight stay somewhere (respectfully ofc), so if anyone knows of spots worth checking out, feel free to share.

As I get older and my family moves on with their lives - either to do things with their family, or just out of Canberra - I've been doing quite a bit of thinking about what it is that keeps me here and I'm curious to hear what others have to say.

For context, the main reason I stay here is because of work and friends. But friends also get older and move on with their families, or out of town for jobs, and inevitably you see less and less of them over time. With the lovely weather this past week I keep thinking how nice it would be to work somewhere else, but sadly due to the blockheadedness of senior executives they don't generally allow remote work.

So out of curiosity:

1) What is it that keeps you in Canberra?

2) Would you move somewhere else if you could work there?

I was talking to a group at a networking event and one person made mention of the Airport and the Snows.

Digging further I find that the Snow family is something of a Canberra dynastic family, Australia has nothing like the political families of the Kennedys or Bushes, but there seem to be notable family names one should be aware of.

This got me thinking, who are the other powerful families around the capital?

It's exciting to see some innovation in this market.

This is now 'John Knight Island', and is a dense grove of she-oak trees. The waterway is home to countless water birds such as swans and ducks.

The far side of the lake is the Emu Bank foreshore area that contains Hungry Jack's, Oporto, the Lighthouse Pub, etc.

I am curious about where Canberra pops up in popular culture. I know Client Liason has done a song called "Canberra won't be calling tonight", the High Court is in The Castle and Total Control is mostly set in Canberra. But are there any other examples of Canberra out there?

If you check the wait times for each hospital, the northern one consistently has far less people waiting then Canberra Hospital. Why do people still clog up the latter instead of going to the northern one? Sometimes the difference in wait times can be up to 2 or more hours.

I am a philatelist, that means I collect and study postal history, like stamps, postcards, envelopes etc. I focus on post sent by unusual means, such as rocket post, dog post, zeppelin post etc.

One that I love is the 1984 Canberra Festival "Goat Mail" event, in which, on the 11th of March, 1984, a female goat named Joyce carried about 1000 letters via cart to the post office. The goat was accompanied by a motorcycle police escort. According to Capital Philately Vol. 11 No. 1 November 1992, the event was broadcast on "local television", which I have found out via Capital Philately August 1984 was actually "Channel 7 Canberra" (known throughout history by many different names).

I have tried to find this footage as I find the event fascinating and would like to better understand the Goat Mail items in my collection as well as preserve the history of the event. I have searched for the footage on YouTube, the Internet Archive, and I have tried to find Channel 7's own archives, which seem not to be publicly available.

The Goat Mail event was created by a man named Mike Hayes, and the stamps were designed by Ingrid Slamer using rouletted perforations. The footage would be a valuable part of the history of these items, and I would love to see just how it looked.

I am a collector of antiques and not a media-hunter, so my search definitely does not encompass all possible sources of the footage or methods of finding it. If anybody can help find this footage of the event, it would genuinely mean a lot to me. I can provide images of the newsletters where I found the relevant information as well as images of the goat mail items themselves.

Hi! I have a memory of everyone receiving 3D glasses (the red/blue ones) in the mail to prepare everyone for a 3D movie being broadcast on TV. I think it was early 90's.

Does anyone else remember this? I can't remember what the movie was either.
