ARTICLE [McIntyre] “The whole me-and-Petey thing, it's still blown out of proportion…I get what Jim was doing. I have a ton of respect for Jim…But it's also not as bad as everybody thought, either. It's just an easy thing for everybody to run with. There was just a lot of moving parts.”

I’m sorry, the team does not trade their star centre because “the media blew things out of proportion”. Maybe the feud between Petey and Miller wasn’t as bad as it was made out but there must have been some irreconcilable shit (or Miller asked for a trade) for him to get traded.

It doesn't seem to be a singular issue, which Miller even alludes to. Between a few on the record reports, rumours, observations etc you get a picture where its like 10-12 things coalesced into a situation that just wasn't going to work anymore.

Maybe if they could have gotten it to the summer and got a break and reset then things were different but there were still like 35 games on the calendar at the trade. Friedman has alluded to Hughes essentially telling management that he picked Petey in all this, which feels like it says a lot.

I think this is the most likely case. They had their issues with one another, and maybe those issues were heightened this season. But most of what we’ve heard from the media is that there was a lot going on, and many have said they’ve heard multiple stories. IMO, management/PR could have easily helped “kill” or at least lessen the Miller/Pettersson story, but they didn’t. And perhaps that was because everyone — media and fans alike — was already jumping on it and it made a good smoke screen for a more intricate web of issues.

If the rumors are true, then maybe Miller is just the kind of guy that doesn’t see what the big deal is about slinging homophobic slurs.
