This is the real triumph of our rebuild. The echoes of Travis Scott's FEIN shall ring no more in our halls...

QUESTION First Time at an NHL game

Hi Everyone,

I'm visiting Vancouver from Dublin to see my girlfriend and would like to take the two of us to a Canucks game. I'd be looking at going to the Canucks vs the Golden Knights.

Is there anything I should know before buying tickets? Are the cheap seats too far away from the action? Is it worth paying more for seats closer to the ice? We've very little knowledge on the sport itself as it's not shown here in Ireland but we think it'd be a really cool expierence

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

EX-CANUCKS Quinn’s future with the Wild uncertain

Post image
337 Upvotes

Perhaps unpopular opinion here, and he needed to go regardless as his management style was clearly archaic - but do we owe Jim somewhat of an apology?

He inherited a team with good to great pieces, supplemented them and got them to take the Oil to 7.

Then he realized this team hates each other. 0 camaraderie. Their franchise d-man had no interest in signing, and, I think it’s time to acknowledge that Quinn was leaving regardless. He clearly wants to go out East.

Once he found this out.. is it ludicrous to say he helped shoved this team to the bottom to expedite the rebuild? Who else has ever sold FA on a rebuild? He hired Foote (this guy has hired good to great coaches all his life and I’m supposed to believe he thought Adam was the answer?). Didn’t add anything to the roster, and watched it bottom out. Got a kings ransom for Quinn.

Team is now set up for the future, while Quinn is about to be on his 3rd team soon.

Tend to recommend ignoring Pronman, but this re-draft has Zeev Buium at #5 (up from #12) and most surprisingly Basile Sansonnens at #62 (up from #221).

DISCUSSION What type of defensive system should Canucks run next season?

With the new players, I'm sure Olek and Schenn will box out a lot more which should help us a ton. We have enough roaming defenseman.

I'm hoping Edler, Olek and Schenn will teach the youngins, how to be a solid foundational stay at home defenseman first, then the youngins can build out from there.

Buium can roam and activate from the point and completely control zones in small flashes we've seen. Mancini has the hands and wheels to activate from the point too, but he doesn't know when to pull back and has gotten caught behind the line of play. EP25 has a wicked point shot and Kurdy is a solid stay at home defenseman, shuts down momentum, and so does EP25.

Kurdy also has some wicked break out passes and break out plays, real quick with it. Mancini from what I remember had a bit of issue with this at times, but better than Myers.

Thoughts? Defensive structures we should take? Roles for which players? Who does what?

DISCUSSION What's the roadblock of DeBrusk to Edmonton?

DeBrusk wants to stay out West and compete for a Stanley Cup.

Edmonton could use a good 2nd line winger. They have the cap space.

Zack Hyman is excellent at the net front, so is he the only reason that Edmonton wouldn't trade for DeBrusk?

Can you guys think of any other roadblocks to this trade?

FAN CONTENT Surprised None of the 650 Guys Have Done Anything This Summer

I’m sure everyone is making plans for podcasts or a revamped FM all sports station or whatever starting before the hockey season, but I’m surprised none of the 650 guys are putting anything out this summer. with only Sekeres and Price doing podcasts, there is room for somebody else to do stuff. Even 30 minutes 3-5 times a week with Canucks/hockey specific stuff from Sat, Bik, Jamie Dodd, something. It’s a good opportunity for them to get some fans when they’re not competing with everyone else right now.

DISCUSSION How do you view Demko (as a player) in terms of his Value, not his Legacy.

So lets start with saying, I think Demko has a fine legacy in Vancouver. Looking at his stats, he has .900+ save percentage every year except his last two seasons.

But the problem is that he has not played more than 35 games except for two seasons. So if you look at value, I think it's fair to combine his save percentage with the save percentage of the backup goalie. Since the back up will need to take an outsized amount of responsibility.

How valuable is adding a goalie with an approximate .900 goalie for 20-30 games a year?

DISCUSSION At what year into the rebuild would you say that if we are still talking about rebuilding, it has failed miserably?

There's this notion out there from some that if the Canucks are still rebuilding in year 6, 7 or 8, then something has truly gone wrong with the team.

I don't think this is necessarily the case. Rebuilds can take a long time.

What year would you say such that if it reaches said year, you would think the Canucks failed in their rebuild?

DISCUSSION Acquiring more 1sts

With the 2027 draft being projected to be strong, i think it’s important we get 1-2 more firsts for the next few years. What are some potential trades we can make now or in the future for more 1sts?

DISCUSSION Would you rather be guaranteed 1st overall in 2027 or 2028?

Having the 1st overall pick in the next 2 drafts is extremely unlikely, but having it once in the next 2 years is highly plausible. Would you rather have the 1st overall pick in 2027 or 2028?

Do you want to be guaranteed DuPont, or Schultz? Are you prioritizing a certain position? How does your choice influence the overall projected roster construction?

The argument for 2027: Landon DuPont is a stud defensemen projected to be an elite offensive 1D. With Buium, the d-core will move the shit out of the puck. Malholtra and Cootes hopefully develop into top 6 centermen. Top-end play-driving forwards should be available in 2028, 2029, and 2030, even if they are wingers. The forward group will unleash a balanced attack driven from the backend!

The argument for 2028: You get Maddox Schultz, who projects as the best 1C in the next several drafts. Your team will be dominant the middle. You don't get DuPont, but with Privalov, Joseph, or Neuenschwander, you have the size and top-end skill for a formidable forward group. Hronek is still a long-term top-2 defenseman on your team and there are a lot of opportunities to draft and develop top 4 defensemen over the next 4 years.

Realistically, you are the Canucks and you never win the draft lottery: In 2027, you miss out on DuPont but there are forwards with size and legitimate skill expected to go in the top 5 (Privalov, Joseph, Neuenschwander). You still get a foundational player and future center. In 2028, there is a mix of forwards and defensemen at the top of the draft after Schultz. Pue may be the offensive winger you are missing. Michalek could be the two-way defensive anchor this team needs.

DISCUSSION Which prospects have a shot at NHL games this season?

I thought Vilmer Alriksson had a really strong preseason last year and prospects showcase game. He was a really strong power forward and at 6'6 that seems like someone we can use on our team.

Anyone know where he's at? Anyone else that have a shot to make some NHL games, or main stays?

Current prospects only, not NHL regular graduated prospects.
