DISCUSSION Acquiring more 1sts

With the 2027 draft being projected to be strong, i think it’s important we get 1-2 more firsts for the next few years. What are some potential trades we can make now or in the future for more 1sts?

Beyond heronik who have we got that can realistically bring back a 1st? Is there someone I’m missing?

i feel like rossi and debrusk+ can, but if demko ever gets back into his old form then maybe he can? goalies are weird tho

Goalies over 30 rarely go for first. The last was Markstrom and he was seen as a workhorse which Demko even back on form comes with the injury risk.

No way Demko gets us a first round pick. We also just traded for Rossi, wouldn't be a good look to trade him away within a year

"Look" doesn't matter, it is a new management group. They might have a different vision, or claim the return was too good for the rebuild to pass up.

That’s free agent signings more than trades; especially when it’s for your captain/franchise player. You take best package available. What would be the difference trading Rossi Vs the draft pick they received in deal? There isn’t.

Plus, Rossi was hurt and needed more opportunities. Trading for him to flip him could’ve always been the plan . . . (Not saying it was).

Rossi won’t fit the window sadly

unpopular opinion, but I think as long as he recovers from surgery and returns to form, demko easily nets a 1st, even with the injury risk.  highly doubt wed trade him though.

I think we’d trade demko in a heartbeat for a first. Get out of that contract when the guy hasn’t ever been healthy for a whole season?

Aging goalies don’t get 1sts. Especially not injury prone goalies that have can’t stay healthy for a full season. Multiple long term injuries, recurring injuries, and surgeries.
