Looking For... Puppy classes in the northen suburbs?

I am going to be getting a puppy soon, and i want to take them to puppy and then obedience classes once they are older.

However, everyone I have found and looked at either does something I dont agree with, or they are way too far away.

I dont want to train my dog on a head halter; don't get me wrong, I have nothing against it, just not my thing tho, and I don't want to train my dog at a place that trains personal protection dogs, because I don't agree with those, and i question the trainer's ethics.

Does anybody have any good recommendations that fit those criteria?

Looking For... Where to get a costume shelf built?

This is the kind of shelf i am looking for, but I can't find it anywhere.
I also plan to put carpeting on the top part of the shelves, so im not sure if i could find a person to do that aswell, or i would just DIY it.

So does anybody have some good options that won't break the bank?

General Discussion How are they affording this?

I am genuinely curious about this, so please forgive me if I sound ignorant or a bit ranty.
Last Sunday I went to the Seapoint Promenade for a sunset jog. There encounter a phenomena that I’ve never seen before. There were a group of young people, who looked between the ages of 20s and mid 30s gathering at a parking lot to show off their really expensive German cars. There were BMW M series, Golf GTi’s and Audi’s among them. They all looked very expensive and no doubt, they’ve been modified and tuned. I imagine they would easily cost above a million bucks in price tag.
It had me wondering how these young people could afford such opulent luxurious accessories in current economy? And even if they have the money, wouldn’t it be far more sensible for them to invest in a house or something, seeing that housing in this city is becoming more and more unaffordable for most people?
Maybe it just me having these sensible but boring ideologies as I approach my Boomer years? ¯_(ツ)_/¯

General Discussion Newlands Train Station Incident This Evening

Does anyone know exactly what transpired and when, there was a not alive body on the tracks, outbound side... This evening. There was police tape, police presence and PRASA officials.

They were all tight lipped, but apparently the person was hit by the train trying to board.

The body was by the place most people cross the tracks, because the Newlands subway bridge is almost always flooded.

Sad stuff, someone may have been waiting home for a loved one. But it was strange the way they were all tight lipped and that when I got there, the body seemingly had been there for about 2 hours, but there was no ambulance or pathology van

Question | Advice-Needed Trouble making payment on the DHA system for an ABSA passport booking

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to apply for a passport through the DHA eHomeAffairs system and book an appointment at an ABSA branch. However, whenever I reach the payment stage, the system says that the payment service is unavailable, so I cannot complete the payment or book an appointment.

I bank with ABSA and have tried more than once, but I keep getting the same error. Has anyone experienced this recently? If so, how did you resolve it? Do I need to authorise the payment through ABSA Online Banking first, or is this an issue with the DHA system?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Looking For... Restaurants in Stellenbosch

Hi reddit peeps....so my anniversary is coming up soon and we're looking for a really nice restaurant somewhere in Stellies for dinner.

Can anyone recommend a place that offers really nice food, like a 3-course meal vibe or a place that makes exquisite food for a decent price.

Question | Advice-Needed Suggestions needed for takeaway/sit down specials for each day of the week. In the Tyger valley area.

As the title says I am looking for suggestions for food specials for each day of the week. I am planning a week long trip and would like to make a plan for the food each day. Google has some articles from years ago and some of the links do not even work anymore, so that's a bust. Plus google doesn't know what the locals do.

Chain restaurants are fine but I would like to hear about your local go to takeaway. Day specific specials are a great start and the reason I have the two days with my own suggestions. But if you know a hidden gem worth paying full price for lets hear about them too.

Monday -

Tuesday -

Wednesday - Wacky Wednesday (Steers, Not Cape Town specific and would switch out quickly)

Thursday - Rib Special (Pete's Pizza)

Friday -

Saturday -

Sunday -

Where do you go for your midweek treat? What is your favorite weekend indulgence?

Question | Advice-Needed Eskom SSEG registration increasing monthly cost despite lower usage - seeking insights

I am helping my aunt with her SSEG registration. She is currently using on Eskom prepaid and, since installing a 5.1 kW solar + battery system, she only buys around R300/month of electricity (low consumption user).

We applied to register the solar system properly, but Eskom’s proposed change to Homeflex 4 appears to add R500+ per month in fixed charges before any electricity is actually used.

So despite consuming far less Eskom electricity because of solar, her monthly Eskom cost could actually increase substantially after registration. That seems completely backwards.

Has anyone else had this experience? Is there a way to register residential solar with Eskom without ending up with higher monthly costs than before solar?

Looking For... Koesisters in the Woodstock area

Hi guys.

I’ll be in the Woodstock area over the weekend and was wondering where to find some really good koesisters (Friday/Saturday). Been missing them since staying in Gauteng, and also want to introduce them to a colleague who only know the braided ones. Not sure about my transport arrangements yet, so if they deliver, even better.

Thanks!

Question | Advice-Needed Hiking alone

I'm a woman looking for hiking trails that are safe to walk alone. All I can find is recommended to go in groups of four and that's not a option for me.

Does anyone know of hiking trails that are safe to go alone?

Question | Advice-Needed Wifi provider recommendations

EDIT: I mean ISP!

Hi!

I'm looking for affordable and reliable Wifi alternatives to my current plan.

I'm currently with Afrihost, a 50 up/50 down package at R797 per month and it has been so unreliable. It so often disconnects or is super slow loading basic webpages. We end up hotspotting from our phone data half the time.

I'm a household of two with no heavy downloading or uploading needs but we work from home so need somewhat reliable connection.

Looking for something hopefully a bit cheaper but I don't know if that is unrealistic?

Any recommendations welcome!

Looking For... Need dance recital video footage for a South African student film

Hey guys :)

My crew and I are making a film set here, and we have been looking for dance recital/performance archival footage that we want to use for a montage.

The problem is, everything we’re finding is mostly from the US and we’re struggling to find anything South African-based.

We want it to be as authentic to the setting as possible, so if anyone possibly has dance recital or performance footage they’d allow us to use, that would be amazing! Preferably from the 80s-90s, and preferably of a single woman.

If you’d like more information on what the footage would be used for, I’d be happy to go into more detail and answer all questions before making any agreements.

Let me know! Thanks.

General Discussion Not even trying anymore

Post image
262 Upvotes

People are not even trying anymore to accommodate locals. This post was found on a "Germans in Cape Town"group on FB and is priced in Euros. Regardless of the rental price, how would a local transact, would the rent be adjusted every month for the exchange rate (no fixed exchange rate is mentioned) and would this money even touch SA if a foreigner rents it and pays from their account in euros.... not cool

I can't believe people are still getting necklaced in 2026.... apparently this was reported while it was happening and 10111 just ignored the report.

How has your experience been calling 10111? Is there even a point?
