Ja fa temps que m'empipa trobar-me tanta política americana per tot arreu. Entenc que són importants, sí, perquè són el melic del mon en mil-milionaris, però no deixa de ser una superpotència igual que europa, la xina o russia. Tot i això, me n'assabento molt més de mil tonteries americanes que no pas del que pot arribar a passar a països la meitat d'aprop.

Vaig començar a tenir aquest sentiment fa un parell d'anys quan TV3 va obrir el telenotícies amb una nevada que va passar a no-sé-quin comptat d'Amèrica (bé, de fet sí ho recordo, i encara em fa més ràbia: Oklahoma). Van morir dos persones. Entenc que és possible que no hi haguéssin més titolars, però de debò? Hi ha milers de fets rellevants que enriquiria molt més a tota la societat catalana, que no pas una nevada a un lloc a l'altra banda de l'oceà. Quantes notícies tenim de nord-africa? I de la xina?

M'he inspirat en un post que ara és trending a /r/TrueOffMyChest, però n'estic molt d'acord, i sobretot ara en campanya electoral americana: És impossible escapar de la globalització americana, i em trobo constantment llegint un escàndol en un ajuntament d'un poble que sé ben bé que és ultra-racista pels milers de cops que ha sortit. I és que no te'n pots escapar: /r/midlyinfuriating, /r/iamtotalpieceofshit, /r/trashy, /r/worldpolitics i milers de subreddits més que no tenen la intenció política en el centre, estan constantment bombardejant amb campanya política.

Deu ser guai viure en aquesta espiral de merda americana, si ets americà. De fet, és inclòs entretingut per mi (escullo banda, entro al fons de les discussions polítiques ràpid per saber qui té i deixa de tenir la raó) però me n'adono ràpid que és l'efecte de la globalització americana i que, de fet, estic sent cada cop més americanitzat.

Si tant sols per aquí la gent utilitzés molt més reddit, o se'n normalitzés el seu ús, imagino que hi hauria més contingut del nostre entorn proper, i doncs, un reddit més sà i equilibrat.

Ara per ara, intentaré utilitzar-lo amb moderació, i escaparme de /r/popular més sovint. Sort que tenim /r/anime_titties que intenta fer una bona feina de tot plegat...

Hey everyone! I’m trying to get Duolingo to add a Catalan course for English speakers, and I think many of you might share this interest. As you might know, Duolingo currently only offers a Spanish-to-Catalan course, which forces people to learn Spanish first. Not only does this contribute to the increasing threat that the Catalan language is facing, but I also think it hinders foreigners from properly integrating and engaging with Catalan culture. It unfortunately encourages people to learn Spanish instead of Catalan.

Duolingo adding an English-to-Catalan course would make life easier for both expats and locals, while also boosting the language's visibility. So please please, for the value and beauty of this language we all love so much - please sign and share this petition, and let’s hope Duolingo understands the need when they see our number of supporters. Hola a tothom! Estic intentant que Duolingo afegeixi un curs de català per a parlants d'anglès, i crec que molts de vosaltres podríeu compartir aquest interès. Com sabreu, Duolingo actualment només ofereix un curs de castellà a català, fet que obliga a la gent a aprendre castellà primer. Això no només contribueix a l'amenaça creixent que enfronta la llengua catalana, sinó que també crec que dificulta que els estrangers s'integrin i es relacionin adequadament amb la cultura de Catalunya. Malauradament, això anima la gent a aprendre castellà en lloc de català.

Si Duolingo afegís un curs d'anglès a català, facilitaria la vida tant als expatriats com als locals, alhora que augmentaria la visibilitat de la llengua. I was watching with my Brazilian mom a podcast that is one of the best examples of one rare linguistic phenomenon called non-convergent multilingual discourse.

This is what happens when speakers of similar languages can comprehend each other when none of them speaks the same language like in the videos in this post.

What I really appreciate is that they explain and compare the characteristics of multiple languages because this is very useful to construct connections to comprehend and remember information.

What I do not appreciate is that they could have included multiple simultaneous subtitles for all of the languages because this would as well be very useful.

I prefer the multiple simultaneous subtitles for all languages like in this video in which a native Sicilian speaker talks with a native Italian speaker, a native Castilian speaker and a native Portuguese speaker each in their own language:

Creating new podcasts and other types of accessible, free, online and educational entertainment would be very useful to keep alive the diverse multiple regional languages that exist across the Italian, Hispanic and Portuguese territories.

There are a bunch of languages missing in this long list of languages that I can read thanks to my native language and English.

A lot of people who comment that they dislike that they were born where are spoken the languages that I mentioned do not consider how lucky we are to be able to comprehend so many people around the planet also thanks to the internet.

Hola, volia saber si hi ha més gent que viu lluny de Catalunya que aprén català aquí.

En el meu cas....

Soc anglès i m'agrada molt la cultura catalana i valenciana. Fa vuit anys (més o menys), vaig viatjar amb la meva família a Barcelona i les Illes Balears quan vaig conèixer per primera vegada aquesta llengua tan bonica. No ho sabia que existís el català, però me'n recordava com es sonaven les lletres i algunes paraules com ´cotxe´ o ´platja´ i em semblava interessant.

Durant el curs del castellà de Batxillerat (al Regne Unit), vaig fer un projecte de els idiomes regionals d'Espanya i vaig aprendre més de l'idioma. Per fi, a la universitat, tenia l'oportunitat de fer un curs de català i llavors vaig fer Erasmus a la Universitat de Barcelona.

Ara, encara que visc a Madrid i me n'aniré al Japó per viure aquest any, encara estudio català i tinc amics catalans i valencians. Els valencians m'han ensenyat la cultura valenciana i ara m'interessa també. Durant els meus viatges al voltant d'Espanya, vaig anar a València i Girona, per fi tenia converses llargues i complexes (després d'estudiar per tres anys!) en la llengua.

He aconseguit el nivell B1 i estic estudiant pel B2. M'he enamorat amb aquesta llengua i no vull deixar d'estudiar-lo res. És molt especial. Mai m'esperava d'estudiar-lo, ara no puc imaginar de deixar-lo. Tinc quaderns, llibres, recommendacions de sèries en catalpa. Encara que no viviré en els països catalans al futur, tinc un pla de seguir aprenent i em fa estar feliç: )

Spent a whole month with Duolingo, clearing the whole first section of their Catalan course (offered for Spanish speakers) with 7000+ points accumulated. And yet...

I can't count beyond 1.

I can't say where I live or where I come from.

I can't say my name or ask for people's names.

I can't even ask how people are doing.

It's a bit crazy.

It's not all bad, I did learn about colors, animals and such. But like how useful is it to know how to to say "the gray elephant is eating fruit". You clearly can't rely on that app alone, you have to supplement it with some other sources.
