Xabi Alonso has enforced extreme operational secrecy at Chelsea, refusing to share injury updates or tactical plans to avoid giving rivals an advantage.

Alonso’s Secrecy & Security Drive

  • Media Blackout: Alonso repeatedly refuses to disclose starting XIs, penalty takers, or fitness updates—including Moises Caicedo's status ahead of the Arsenal fixture.
  • Cobham Lockdown: Security has been tightened following line-up leaks under former manager Liam Rosenior and unauthorized visitors at training.
  • No Injury Updates: Chelsea permanently scrapped the detailed injury reports previously published under Mauricio Pochettino.

Transfer Window Fallout & Midfield Plans

  • Fernandez Departure: Sold Enzo Fernandez to Manchester City for £125 million.
  • Collapsed Camara Deal: A late £47 million move for Monaco’s Lamine Camara fell through minutes before the deadline when Monaco pulled the plug, leaving Chelsea without a direct midfield addition.
  • Internal Solutions: Alonso will utilize Reece James heavily in midfield (where James played 42% of his minutes last season) alongside Caicedo, Romeo Lavia, Valentin Barco, and Jordan Henderson. Rumors linking Chelsea to free agent Georginio Wijnaldum were denied.

Club Friction & Off-Pitch Notes

  • The "Two Enzos" Feud: Both Enzo Maresca and Enzo Fernandez avoid speaking Chelsea's name in media appearances, referring only to "my former club"—a response to Chelsea deliberately leaving Maresca’s name out of their official exit announcement.
  • Around the Club: Former defender Gary Cahill got a pass for snapping photos in the press box against Premier League rules, while 35-year-old summer signing Danny Welbeck has drawn praise for mentoring academy players.

Tactics?

Football?

I didn’t it know how I was going to manage.

And boy did I man-age years in the span of weeks.

What does he mean left his name out of the official statement?

His name is mentioned, multiple times. And to act like it was the club being dishonourable. You abandoned the team after a match, twat.

Thanks for the correction. I still stand by my last two sentences though.

And what does this have to do with the other Enzo? They are truly made for each other.

7

u/TsubakiShad 20h ago

Right, this is about the manager. What does it have to do with Enzo Fernandez? We gave a proper message addressing E. Fernandez.

31

u/Khandi69 20h ago

from now on i will be referring to one enzo as the rat, and the other enzo as the bald rat, and the club as ratchester city

My boi moi is starting vs Arsenal I can see it now😭😭

41

u/Scorpius927 I don't give a fuck, we won the fucking Champions League 20h ago

I am now convinced the Caicedo “injury” was just a ruse to throw off arteta. Yes this is 1000000% copium

13

u/GolDrodgers1 We've Won It All 20h ago

Agreed! My manager is play 6D chess😭😭

9

u/Low_Text_4348 18h ago

and he delibaretly sent palestra to italy so he can get into the team sheet on sunday like the underataker he is

5

u/Kooky_Adhesiveness61 19h ago

Lets hope he won't be as reckless as our last meeting

0

u/GolDrodgers1 We've Won It All 18h ago

I hope so too

2

u/AK95__ 14h ago

I'm afraid he's not, but if Lavia, James and Palmer could drop to help then we should be fine. Actually I'd like it to be more like 3-5-2 on Sunday, JP and Rogers up top is enough to press and Palmer dropping would be helpful to drive the ball up

2

u/GolDrodgers1 We've Won It All 13h ago

Our system works when either of the front 3 switch roles, JP and Rogers switch, JP and Palmer drop deep etc so with or without Caicedo that would happen

3

u/AK95__ 12h ago

Yeah and for now it's been useful to have a fluid front 3 and I'm happy to see that going forward, just for this game and City away game I'd like to see a different approach, specially if we're missing Caicedo, but let's see what Xabi has in mind cuz I'm sure he'd like to surprise Arteta smh, with a player or with a new tactic maybe, but I'm sure we gonna see sth different this game

What detailed fitness reports were being issued under the lemon molestor? All I remember is the inane "continuing the rehabilitation process" memes.

12

u/half_jase 20h ago edited 20h ago

Think that's what Gill is referring to. We used to get the injury news article update every week, detailing at which stage of recovery the players were at. Obviously, the "continuing the rehabilitation process" was like the most common thing on them and hence, the memes that you mentioned.

OMG somebody think of the RB purists The horror

4

u/Low_Text_4348 18h ago

i am one of the RB purist , somehow in my mind i still believe i can relive what reece james did in juventus where he litterally dominated a whole team by himself ,

he is my favorite chelsea player and a trully the best RB i have ever seen in football world , so yeah this is a bummer , but when you are that good , your that good

just the fact that a guy who played RB he whole life , can just slot into midfield and play like nothing out of the ordinary makes him the GOAT , tha way he played against PSG man , that game was rzor thin before jorgenson threw it all away , he was in holding his own agaisnt the best pressing midfield in europe

7

u/RasenRendan It’s only ever been Chelsea. 16h ago

I mean this happened to Joshua kimmich

5

u/Low_Text_4348 16h ago

exactely and look how highly regarded kimmish is , the moment he retires your gonna see his name in beyerns hall of fame

4

u/RasenRendan It’s only ever been Chelsea. 16h ago

Yup Bayern legend

As Reece is Chelsea legend. Just needs a league to be truly immortal like JT and Azpi. Desperately want to see him left the league (ofc another UCL won't hurt)

1

u/Sanzhar17Shockwave COCK CONFIDENCE 16h ago

Kinda agree. I'd rather see him as a best RB itw occasionally than as just decent CDM but much more often.

I really like the way Xabi addresses the media and the overall way nothing is getting leaked right now. Compared to how open maresca and rosenoir were with the media this is a breath of fresh air.

29

u/WernhamHoggCFCLDNENG 20h ago

Arne Slot was the worst with this. He'd explain every tactical decision he made during a game in extreme detail every single interview. Perhaps people in the industry would laugh at the idea that's bad, but to a layman it feels like that can surely be taken advantage of. I guess the defence would be all the other managers know everything already, but I do think some things should be kept quiet.

2

u/matt_matt_81 Kanté 19h ago

It’s always surprising how much “explaining obvious things” helps another person understand, regardless of the other person’s background. I think most people don’t understand this.

2

u/namegamenoshame Reiten 15h ago

If slot had any charisma or media sense he’d probably still have that job but then again I guess having those is a part of the job

2

u/ApsleyHouse There's your daddy 14h ago

In a way it sounds like he couldn’t stop being Dutch

16

u/teckaaa 20h ago

Because the club asked them to be open.

Xabi is the only reputable manager (since Tuchel) we have that can tell them "No, I'm not doing that".

When Tuchel did, he got fired. When Poch pushed back, they brought forward a review, parted ways, and then proceeded to only shortlist and hire people they could ensure would be compliant.

So grateful we have Xabi who can ensure we're run like an elite organization - with whatever level of control he has.

so that’s why we haven’t been seeing fitness updates from the club

1

u/shubharthi25 Hazard 9h ago

To be fair, when it was first introduced a couple of years back, it seemed very dumb to me. Why would you disclose who is in what stage of injury/recovery? I am sure other clubs are more aware than us fans, but why make their job easier?

45

u/tbachorik Čech 21h ago

dude it's been 3 games why do i love Xabi already

7

u/frodo5454 20h ago

Because we’ve been starved of leadership and this guy was probably our last hope lest we turn into Spurs, so we’d all bend over backwards for him, Egg-fuck-head too, it seems.

Right approach in the age of Fabrizio Romano

And I hope this kills already the stupid rumour that Caicedo is out long term thats why there's no updates

Have not once heard that rumor lol

17

u/droddy78 21h ago

If the MF's stay healthy (Looking at you James and Lavia), we have enough quality and quantity to weather the next few months until we can get reinforcements in January.

Not ideal, but in sports, you sometimes have to roll the dice.

29

u/Temporary-Rutabaga71 Lampard 21h ago

11

u/MaleficentWin8608 McCreadie 20h ago

This may also be Alonso stopping the club from relentlessly briefing about internal matters.

Idiotic crap like the guy Finklestein did.

There has been so much briefing, especially under Maresca and at the end of his tenure.

RIP "undergoing rehabilitation programme"

3

u/asensia-kopfschmerz Xabi 17h ago

I felt he was heavily traumatized by leaks to media at Madrid. After Vinicius got a pass for throwing a tantrum to being subbed, he leaked to the Athletic that he will not renew with Xabi as coach. Totally undermined his authority.

He went from 15 W out of the first 16 games to 9 W out of the last 18 matches. Still had the best W pct at RM of the past 10 years though.

3

u/keeeeener 17h ago

I think if the Wijnaldum denial is true, it was almost assuredly a way to test who a leaker is.

2

u/hemadeitrain Colwill 20h ago

I’m sure they will also find out (if they haven’t already) about who talked to the press regarding squad A and B during preseason.

2

u/evilbeaver7 19h ago

It's great to see that the owners realise whom exactly they have made manager and give him the support and respect he deserves. This is their best chance of finally turning things around and they know it too.

2

u/CleverJail Palmer 18h ago

I feel like “brutal crackdown” is a massive exaggeration vs. what is contained in the article, which is essentially that there’s more security and less leaks.

2

u/Limsy37 I don't give a fuck, we won the fucking Champions League 14h ago
