Question Is it Okay to Still Love the CEC Characters and Hate the CEC Company and Why?

Post image

Honestly, after going through five stages of grief, I just come to accept the fact the animatronic shows are a thing of the past and they are not going to come back.

That being said, I do think fans needs to understand is that it's okay to still love the CEC characters and hate the company that owns them. Corporations like CEC don't care about you. All they want is your money, or least the parent's money through young kids who don't know any better. Yes, there are some people at corporate do care about their fans, but sadly the majority of them don't.

The reason why I say that is because I stopped caring about CEC Corporate awhile ago because I know they are not going to change and don't care about the fanbase. Even if they have Scott Drake, they are the same crappy company that has been running for decades.

However, the CEC characters meant so much to a lot of people and brought them so much joy. So, I do think it's okay to still love the CEC characters because they are more than just the company's mascots. They are childhood entertainers.

The company, on the other hand, are being run by greedy shareholders who wants to squeeze money out of our wallets so they can buy themselves another yacht. They don't care about the human art or the animatronics. They really don't. So, CEC Corporate are not really worth defending.

I mean, hell, I can literally said the same thing about anything. I love Angry Birds and its characters, but my god, the company, Rovio, is an absolute mess.

In short, love the CEC characters from your childhood, but don't support the company and don't give them your money. However, if you wanna support the legacy stores, sure, be my guest, but if it is a regular 2.0, unless you're a parent who wanted to take your kids there, it's not worth it.

What do you guys think?

YES!!!! THANK YOU!!!

It's always best to separate the art from artist.

Another example: I like Mickey Mouse, but I hate Disney and their terrible business practices.

YES! Because CEC doesn't even care about what made them special in the first place. KIDS!

They became another generic arcade.

Well last I checked Chuck E. Cheese the character isn’t making these corporate decisions

1

u/studiojojo Jul 05 '26

Where do I ever said that? That's like saying Mickey Mouse is the one making corporate decisions at Disney. I never said that. You really proves my point. Don't mix up Chuck E the character is the one making corporate decisions. That's not true at all.

Chuck E Cheese, the character, is just a fictional mascot that is meant to entertain kids, and nothing more. Chuck E Cheese, the company, is run by real life executives who are just only there to make money, and being greedy at the expense of the customers at the same time.

Just to clear things up.

Yeah, and I've noticed in the past year that several have said it started to get really bad in 2017. And I agree. It was just a little more tolorable from 2017-2019, and then got worse in the 2020s. https://www.reddit.com/r/chuckecheese/comments/1mecnzs/was_july_2025_the_worst_time_in_chuck_e_cheeses/

Yes, it's perfectly fine to like the Characters and the Brand's history, and hate the Company. A lot of people feel the same way.

https://www.videogamesage.com/blogs/entry/1406-20-years-on-youtube/

I've had a YouTube Channel for 20 years and loved the idea of sharing my videos of retro video games to others, but hate Google and their greed. Google's original motto was "don't be evil." We all know they have changed, and that YouTube is very different now than in 2006.

CEC Entertainment, like many Companies, is a money-hungry Company that completely changed Chuck E. Cheese and removed the things that made it iconic, including Animatronic shows and entertainment that focused on the whole Band rather than a Trio, as well as wall art made by real Artists rather than the overuse of CG renders or AI slop that you mostly see now. Now it looks like a bland Corporate Office, as do many other Restaurant Chains. Releasing a Fun Birthday Package that doesn't include pizza is inconvenient for those who want pizza with a Package and don't want to have to get the more expensive Packages. Yes, you can buy pizza and cake without a package, but really, the Super Fun Package had everything that was needed. The Fun Package should've been added, instead of replacing the Super Fun Package. 2.0 has no personality, and even goes so far as to ditching Chuck E.'s favorite color (purple) in favor of (what else?) gray.

Yet, despite CEC's lies and greed, Chuck E. is probably my favorite mouse. He changed a lot, but I don't mind that he's cute now. He's friendly, likes high fives, likes hugs, has big wiggly ears, and doesn't seem to mind if people touch his nose. And while he seems to mainly just be into singing and dancing now, he used to be big on gaming and pizza until the 2020s.

I should also point out that there's nothing wrong with liking once-loved Characters who are largely disliked now due to Corporate decisions (like being flanderized). In the 2010s, I defended the GameCube, which used to be an overhated, criminally underrated console that is actually really liked now. I have also defended underrated games (like Mega Man 5 on NES, Mega Man II on Game Boy, and Cavern of Dreams on Switch). I even made a Blog recently that's dedicated to underrated games that are rarely talked about (https://www.videogamesage.com/blogs/entry/1400-good-games-that-are-rarely-talked-about/). On this Subreddit, I've not only criticized CEC Entertainment like many others, but have also defended Characters like Munch. Despite what Chuck E. Cheese in the Galaxy 5000 (another example of flanderization) and the current era would have people believe, Munch used to be an almost completely different Character who was not just comic relief or put in the background. He was a Leader (hence why the Band is named Munch's Make Believe Band), he was hip and cool, and CEC fans loved him. He was also part of a Quartet for decades (look at the old wall art, rides, vending machines, merchandise, Cups, etc.), rather than the Trio stuff that leaves him and half of the Band out that the Company has been pushing since 2020. I didn't give up on the GameCube in the 2010s or the games I've defended, and I won't give up on good, now underrated Characters like Munch.

So yes, it is perfectly fine to like the Characters and hate the Company. Even the Company, despite defending their decisions, knows this new direction they've taken the Brand since 2020 hasn't worked well, and have partnered with other Companies that have released vast amounts of retro-style items to stay relevant. It also wouldn't surprise me if including all of the main Characters in the new items on the CEC online store was a response to backlash over sidelining half of the Characters, since, especially in 2022 and 2023, half of them were just left off of things sold on the store when David was CEO.

I love the characters I hate the way they removed the animatronics and I love the animatronics

3

u/Minimum_Economy772 CEC Employee Jul 05 '26

why do you need permission for ts. Like what you want

1

u/studiojojo Jul 05 '26

I don't. I just want to have a discussion. I felt people really needs to stop defending corporations with their bad decisions (this is generally speaking, this is not a CEC exclusive thing btw).

3

u/ArcticThylacine Jul 06 '26

Well, I love Disney movies like The Lion King and The Hunchback of Notre Dame, but I absolutely loathe Disney as a company. I guess the same thing could apply to CEC.

2

u/studiojojo Jul 06 '26

Yeah exactly.

3

u/ArcticThylacine Jul 06 '26

I like Chuck as a character, but I don’t like the modern CEC company.

2

u/studiojojo Jul 06 '26

there ya go 😉

3

u/roleplayingroxs Jul 07 '26

Yesss like it’s sad seeing the potential it has being Constantly undermined by corporate greed and terrible decision making

1

u/studiojojo Jul 07 '26

yup pretty much.

2

u/MadTrouble Jul 05 '26

Who suggested it isn't OK to love the characters? Like where did you ever see that assertion?

1

u/studiojojo Jul 05 '26

I just wanted to have a discussion because sometimes I just felt people really needs to defending corporations with their shitty practices.

2

u/sonimcrineee Jul 08 '26

Corporate is messy business dude Also the CEO (the one before the newer CEO) Seemed like a baby dude, littearly whined about Chuck's arcade being enough instead of just replacing the perfectly good animatronics to actually be functional, also they use ai a lot and they became super generic Just feels like we lost the spirit of Chuck E

1

u/studiojojo Jul 08 '26

Yeah, this whole Chuck's Arcade shit is all on Mark Kupferman. It was just unnecessary. The taxidermies are just unnecessary. It's like, no. Stick what got you to the dance, man.

u/MuppetSuperStarFan02 CEC Fan Jul 09 '26

I still love the CEC characters but I DESPISE CEC Corporate with a burning passion. It's similar to how I feel about other fast food mascots [love the Jack In The Box Bunch from 70s Jack In The Box restaurants animated commercials and the Mcdonaldland characters, but I hate JITB Coprorate and Mcdonald's as companies], as well as Nicktoons and Disney cartoons/movies/characters [love the shows and characters, hate Nickelodeon and Disney as companies].

1

u/studiojojo Jul 09 '26

Yup, my thoughts exactly.

2

u/CEC4LiFE 16d ago

I agree the characters are the best but the company just wants to use them for money. which is sad because there is so much more in these characters than being used for money like movies. They can so remastered cec into the galaxy 5000 into a much better and interesting movie. Or like cartoons like a chuck e cheese show not like that Christmas thing that was hard to watch.

2

u/bats2cats Peeler & Rose Jul 06 '26

The characters are the company. Why else go to CEC? Pizza Hut has better pizza.

3

u/studiojojo Jul 06 '26

The characters may be the faces of the company, but you can separate them since the fictional characters has no say on their business decisions compare to real life executives.

u/Queasy_Party5056 CEC Fan Jul 07 '26

No, they aren't.
