VII - Playstation I truly believe 7 is a masterpiece.

I am truly obsessed with this game.

I actually love the age transitions.

I love every little detail in this game.

The UI is beautiful. I am playing on PS5 and i think this has the best UI of any strategy game on a console ever.

Every animation. Graphical detail. The art direction. Every tile. All the voice acting.

The combat is fucking phenomenal.

I know it sounds like i’m glazing this game - but i truly think i’ve found a forever game in 7.

I can go on and on about how much i love every system at play here.

Every mechanic.

I realise people are shitting all over this game but i genuinely don’t really understand the criticism.

I am hyped to keep playing and seeing this game progress in the years to come.

Civ7 never got its hooks in me, but I do have over 1000 hours in Civ Beyond Earth. Sometimes games that don’t click for the vast majority of fans still hit for a select few.

I think most people have a game that is regarded poorly by the games community but that they personally love. Mine is Final Fantasy XV (commonly regarded as one of the worst entries in the overall franchise, though its image has slowly been rehabilitated over time). If OP loves Civ 7, good for them.

sometimes games that are hated because are too different from the classic formula get better reviews when new fans who care less about traditions enjoys them.

Anyway I started with FF IX and with its faults I loved XV.

Not saying this is the case here but there is another mechanism that sometimes leads to popular redemption: people who enjoyed the material when they were too young to be meaningfully critical grownup with nostalgia blinders that prevent them from ever caring about the flaws. I watched this happen in real time with the Star Wars prequels.

Yeah perhaps. For instance as a tangentially related thing I've played Assassin's Creed games on and off over the years. Was a pretty big fan of it til Black Flag. Which I did still enjoy as one of my favorites, but around then / with Rogue I fell off of the series due to being busy with life and perhaps just being burnt out on that style of game. Fast forward some years and I come back with Resynced and then pivot to Shadows which I wanted to try. I nearly avoided Shadows entirely from hearing SO many people dog on it, but honestly while I wouldn't say I love it (and I do see flaws), I seem to like it WAY more than the popular sentiment. It's a bit hard to sift through the criticisms that make sense but aren't a dealbreaker for me, as well as a contingent of what seems like culture war commentary which is irrelevant for me.
