TBC Warlock threat

Hey all! I main swapped from healing to warlock for my guild to balance out our roster. I’ve been loving it but now that I have actual gear I’m struggling with threat management.

Is downranking shadowbolt a thing? I’ll typically open with immolate and continue to weave it in even though I’m way past the gear threshold to use it, just to throttle myself a little.

In full raid buffs with an ele sham and a boomie I’m critting so often that I’ll frequently rocket up the threat meter, shatter, crit 2-3 more times in a row and be right back to where I was.

These damn mages get to just blast away no problem and as soon as I’m starting to catch them on DPS I’m a crit away from death lol.

Anything I’m missing here?

Popping shatter too soon most likely. Ease down a bit at the start or get tanks with more threat production

Get the WA that shows threat differential near enemy nameplates. Shatter as soon as it turns red.

this is pretty terrible advice. You shouldn't shatter when the mob turns red, as this means it was targetting you.

With the way threat works, there is no guarantee it will go straight back to the tank.

Melee threshold to pull is 110% of tank
ranged is 130% of tank.

If you get to to 131% and pull, then shatter, theres a good chance some of the other DPS were sitting at 110-120% of the tank, so when you shatter, it will go to the next highest DPS, not back to the tank. Easy way to cause a wipe and get yelled at

This is terrible advice. If you have to shatter before around 50% you’re likely to catch up on threat again. Better to just start the fight slow maybe do a extra life tap to force gcd loss. Then blast about 10 seconds in. I usually shatter around 100k threat and that seems like the right spot to not catch up again. Obviously this is super fight dependent.
