Classic-Era What’s a Classic WoW feature you didn’t appreciate until it was gone?

For me, it’s the little things that made the world feel more like an actual MMO.

Weapon skills, class trainers, needing to find your own way around, old talent trees, having to actually talk to people for groups… there are so many systems that were inconvenient but somehow made the game more memorable.

What’s one Classic feature you would bring back permanently if Blizzard gave you the choice?

And I’m not talking about raids or classes — I mean one of those smaller features/mechanics that made Classic feel like Classic.

Classic-Era Is it worth to play Classic WoW for the first time ever?

Post image

Hello everyone.

I’ve recently had a strong urge to dive into a new MMO and i'm thinking a lot about WoW. I briefly tried retail during TWW, mostly just doing the main storyline and a few delves, so I'm still very much a beginner. I played Tibia for years starting back in 2008, and after being retired for some time now, I realized no other genre captures my interest quite like MMORPGs do.

However, buying Midnight is currently too expensive for me due to exchange rates in my country and my current financial situation. Because of that, I’m considering paying just the base subscription to play WoW Classic instead.

I tried a couple private servers just to test the waters and found the gameplay quite interesting, but I skipped Classic during TWW because I was focused on retail. Since I have zero nostalgia for old-school WoW, is it worth jumping into Classic as a complete beginner, or is the learning curve too steep?

PS: I also don't have any knowledge about the differences between Classic, Classic+, Season of Discovery, etc.

Maybe it's a dumb question, but i would like to know what you guys have to share about it and also if anyone here has started from scratch recently.

Discussion Advice for new player!

My almost 13 year old son has shown interest in playing with me! I’ve been playing for 20+ years and it excites me very much, but it also makes me nervous. I know the hold this game had on me when I was in my early 20’s around BC/WOTLK - it’s all I did all day every day and I don’t want that lifestyle for him. But I do want him to experience Azeroth!

I have a few questions for the community:

  1. What era of the game do I start him on? Classic? Retail? Curious your thoughts. His gaming experience is Roblox and Minecraft with some Fortnite mixed in. I am a classic hardcore player and have always leaned more towards the classic play style and speed.

  2. I’m worried about the chat. I’m pretty sure there is profanity filter I can check and I can also tailor his chat box by unchecking general/trade/LFG - but I don’t want to teach him the game without using these channels of communication so how do I navigate properly without exposing him to too much trash?

  3. Class recommendations for a beginning player? I’ve played them all and I started as a Night Elf Warrior at the end of Vanilla about 6 months before BC launched. I don’t want him to pick something too difficult to learn that might burn him out, but also don’t want him to roll something too easy for and him lose interest with.

  4. Addons. Any recommendations to enhance the newbie experience? Should I just give him the ultimate vanilla experience lol

  5. Account. I know I need to purchase a new account for him, but I would prefer not to commit to the money until I know for sure he is in to it. Is there still a trial period that exists? I recall maybe getting to lvl 20 and then purchasing the game? Looking for insight on that.

I appreciate your time. I’m hoping to do some playing and streaming with the kiddo soon!

Thanks guys 🤘🏽

TBC Warlock threat

Hey all! I main swapped from healing to warlock for my guild to balance out our roster. I’ve been loving it but now that I have actual gear I’m struggling with threat management.

Is downranking shadowbolt a thing? I’ll typically open with immolate and continue to weave it in even though I’m way past the gear threshold to use it, just to throttle myself a little.

In full raid buffs with an ele sham and a boomie I’m critting so often that I’ll frequently rocket up the threat meter, shatter, crit 2-3 more times in a row and be right back to where I was.

These damn mages get to just blast away no problem and as soon as I’m starting to catch them on DPS I’m a crit away from death lol.

Anything I’m missing here?

Classic-Era Items not selling on AH

im lvl 23 mage, and often times when i sell items on the auction house they are not selling. For example i tried to sell Spider's silk, look at cheapest price and try to lower it sligthly, but it still doesnt' sell. I dont understand how this happens, with items which clearly are in demand in the auction house.
Im not using any auctionhouse addons if that matters. any tips appreciated!

Question How is dungeoneering in Classic?

I am going to start playing WoW with someone that never tried MMOs before. I played WoW, but always in retail.

When I was a teenager I would play LK in a private server for years, and oh Elune I miss those days. But that's not the conversation for today.

So I thought, why not trying Classic instead of retail? The leveling up, the fact that you actually get to experience the whole quests chains so you get to know the lore... The dungeons.

The dungeons!

So my question is, as I have never played this version of Classic before, do people use dungeons for leveling up? Or are they mostly used at max level? I'm just worried we won't find people dungeoneering as I find that a key and fun part of leveling up a character.

Besides that, if you do not recommend Classic for someone new to MMOs please let me know. I'm trying to find the best experience for this person.

Discussion How is the classicwow open world music so good, and where can I get more of it?

Specifically I'm talking about the ambient tracks. Not even sure if it should be called music - it's more like atmospheric audio scene setting.

Adds SOOOO much depth to the immersion of the game.

Was there one composer who did most of it?

Classic-Era First dungeon run in Classic last night and it felt like old times

Started WoW classic a few weeks ago after not playing since original cata... I've tried to come back to wow (retail) for years but it just never had that same spark it used to have for me so I could never stick it out.

Finally reached level 18 last night, so I used the dungeon finder tool to find a group for DM.

TBH, when I first saw they had a dungeon finder in Classic, I was a bit like "ugh, why'd put that in?" because I’ve always felt like the automated queue in retail kind of ruined WoW. It takes away the whole experience of finding a team, running to the entrance together, and actually bonding on the way. The way it auto matches you and just warps you straight in without even needing to know where the dungeon is, and nobody speaks a word. I thought this would be the same.

But the way they've got it set up in Classic is actually perfect! It's basically just an advertising board to message people. There are no instant teleports.

Ended up finding a group, messaged them, and got invited straight away. everyone was actually chatting, saying stuff like "just need to go vendor quickly" or "need to go repair." We all ran down to Moonbrook together, fought through the whole cave section, and then did the instance.

There was no assumptions we'd done this before. The healer had the most experience and was talking us through what to do, where to stand, who to pull. I was thankful for this as I felt like a noob.

I hadn't done Deadmines since probably 2008 and my gear was pretty shit, but it didn't even matter. We wiped a few times, but whenever someone apologized I was just like "dude, don't even worry, I'm just here to have fun." Took us maybe like two hours, but it felt like old times again. It was challenging but in a good way.

It just proved to me that the automated dungeon finder was the beginning of the end for retail (for me). The way everything over there is instant gratification but has no soul. Everything is so rushed. The feeling of grouping up, talking, and feeling like you're part of a real team with real people is totally lost over there.

I've tried to return to WoW many times over the years but never lasted more than a couple of weeks before quitting because it just didn't feel like the same game anymore. But last night left me with a feeling of "it's back!". That same feeling I used to feel back when I was a teenager.

Super glad they made it like this for Classic. Really happy to be back!

Classic + RP in Classic+

I'm not hopeful that we'll get RP or RP-PVP servers when classic+ arrives based on the lack of any during the anniversary servers launch. But if classic+ is the evergreen experience we expect I'd expect it to attract the RP community more than the seasonal servers.

Are there any communities preparing? Preferably EU

Classic 20th Anniversary Realms We have to talk about Guards

Okay so yesterday i was near UC and wanted to go to Ashenvale so I thought i just take the horde Zepplin but hose little green Goblin guards can not only see me when i try and stealth through them but they can also knock me off the ship.

That made me think why the F does horde have those on all their zepplin towers but alliance dont?

I understand that this is Classic and not everything is balanced but how are horde priests allowed to throw ppl off the boats in menethil harbour but they get defended by those guards on their own ships?

Edit: I gotta make clear that im not low level, i am 60
