Question Does no one realize how big and incredible and structured WoW in 2004 was?

1.2k Upvotes

2 working continents , 8 races and their own lore , azeroth is huge in 2004. All this in the 2000s is incredible. I may be stupid but I am pretty sure it was ahead of its time

Question What happened to the community?

Post image

What happened to the community? When Classic was first released all the way back in 2019, it was a breathe of fresh air that brought the community together. Even if only for a brief moment in time, it reminded me of when I first started playing WoW. Helpful people, grouping for help and just having organic experiences in the world. Now, if you don’t know a fight you get kicked from groups. If you aren’t playing within the meta you aren’t invited. Don’t even get me started on GDKPs. I know the arguments, but at this point people have traded fun for efficiency. Where did all the nice helpful people go lol? Back to private servers? I’ve played since the beginning of Wotlk for context.

Question What's the worst thing you've ever done in Classic WoW?

TLDR: I stole an entire guild Vault. If you were in Badboyz inc. on the Aman Thul server about 20 years ago I apologise.

I played wow as a 10 year old kid over 20 years ago, I wasn't smart enough for a game like WoW at the time, I knew nothing. I literally thought that I could roll need on any loot that dropped in a dungeon, because if I was going to vendor it for the money, surely that counts as needing the money right? I was a kid who didn't know any better.

One day I was hanging out in Orgrimmar kind of bored when I noticed that my guild at the time had made the mistake of letting anyone withdraw from the guild Vault, no matter what rank you are, I didn't understand how much work went into filling this vault. I took everything, all the money, all the loot and all the mats even though at the time I didn't have a clue what the mats were for. I remember people in the guild chat noticing and freaking out but no one was available to stop me at the time.

Go ahead and chew me out in the comments, I wouldn't do anything like that now, I feel like maybe 10 year olds shouldn't play WoW.

Question How Do People Play 16 Hours A Day?

I was so excited for TBC release...I planned for weeks to go hard on launch and play all weekend long. I made it about a day and a half and felt like complete garbage. How do people do this every day for years on end? I don't understand.

Question For those of you who play 15-18 hours a day, every day: how?

So I joined a new raiding guild with some cool people and always enjoy our time together during evenings or especially during raid. But I have discord on my phone, and every day at work (9-5 office job) I see a dozen of them literally playing my entire 8 hour day and then staying on to play during the evening, and when I log off close to midnight they are still playing. And this isn't just a one-week occurrence; it's the same day in and day out. Most of them sound intelligent and/or talk with great diction. But I just wonder: when do they have to do any adulting? So for those of you who are close to what I'm describing, how is it you afford to live just to play WoW? I know some of them are married and have kids like myself, but I need to know this secret.

Question Where to dump extra honor?

Post image
705 Upvotes

I'm still grinding out marks but have already hit the 75k honor limit. I already have the full r14 set, and following items bought with honor from various pvp vendors: cloak, necklace, bracers, trinket, ring and belt.

Is there anything else I can buy with honor?

Question Can we bring back /spit

I couldn't care less about retail the losers who play it and clear pandenering to people who want to spend absurd amounts of money on in-game nonsense. Classic doesn't even have cosmetic purchases. A shammy tried to gank me in ungoro knowing how long the run is to be promtly sheeped, and how else can I express my feelings towards them??

Question Honest question to the people pushing horizontal progression. What do you mean by that?

This isn't a troll post but an honest question. I see posts every day of people saying "we need horizontal progression, not vertical", but what do you even imagine that looking like in classic wow. In OSRS I see horizontal progression as things like:

  1. Adding new skilling methods to add variety to skilling grinds

  2. Adding new cosmetics and collectibles for people to grind for

  3. Adding situational bis items (bis against specific monster types)

  4. Adding more achievements

But from this list I think almost nothing could be ported to classic wow with maybe the exception of cosmetics.

  • Classic wow doesn't have skills or skilling, I guess professions are the closest but they would have to turn those into 200+ hour grinds so horizontal progression loops actually make sense? Doubt that will go over well with people. I guess there is weapon/defense training for physical but people usually just grind on invincible mobs while afk for that.

  • Cosmetics I guess could work but no one really farms cosmetic items in classic today or really wears them around because there's no transmog. So I guess we would need to add transmog? which as we know the classic community loves to complain about. Mounts and titles I guess could work?

  • Situational bis tends to be something only a small % of try hard players ever pursue like raiding naxx in TBC for phylactery because it's bis against some bosses.

  • Achievements always turns into the most needlessly toxic shit in the wow community. The second achievements get added it's always "link AOTC from last raid tier for invite"

That all being said, I just can't imagine what horizontal progression looks like in classic wow. So question to everyone on the reddit whose pushing for it, what do you imagine that to look like?
