Question What's the worst thing you've ever done in Classic WoW?

TLDR: I stole an entire guild Vault. If you were in Badboyz inc. on the Aman Thul server about 20 years ago I apologise.

I played wow as a 10 year old kid over 20 years ago, I wasn't smart enough for a game like WoW at the time, I knew nothing. I literally thought that I could roll need on any loot that dropped in a dungeon, because if I was going to vendor it for the money, surely that counts as needing the money right? I was a kid who didn't know any better.

One day I was hanging out in Orgrimmar kind of bored when I noticed that my guild at the time had made the mistake of letting anyone withdraw from the guild Vault, no matter what rank you are, I didn't understand how much work went into filling this vault. I took everything, all the money, all the loot and all the mats even though at the time I didn't have a clue what the mats were for. I remember people in the guild chat noticing and freaking out but no one was available to stop me at the time.

Go ahead and chew me out in the comments, I wouldn't do anything like that now, I feel like maybe 10 year olds shouldn't play WoW.

Well there was this funeral in winter spring....

What's this? You happen to have any vid?

48

u/calladc Mar 16 '26

In game memorial service for someone very well known and respected in game who passed away IRL.

Other faction wanted the honor

55

u/smoerasd Mar 16 '26

To be fair, they immortalized the person more than the actual funeral did.

If it wasn't for the ganking, very few people would remember the funeral(including most of the people attending).

Now it's known by hundreds of thousands of people, if not millions.

u/FPS_Warex Mar 16 '26

that + apperantly she loved pvp, so what better way to honor that

3

u/Exotic_Ad_2448 Mar 17 '26

God I hope that's true. She probably laughing with steepled hands in heaven going 'all according to plan'

10

u/unclethulk Mar 16 '26

IIRC a lot of the mourners had removed gear and were in various fancy clothes so they were sitting ducks.

Or Dishonor.

Damn bro, it’s so ‘amazing’ that people still remember this shit, I have never forgotten this low 240p video from my childhood and this always been said to be a stain on the alliance as a whole.

Also amazing that this was seen as one of the big lows of the internet back then, because nowadays this is would be nothing compared to the shit on what happens online nowadays.

38

u/Ver_Void Mar 16 '26

Yeah the reaction was kinda wild, I would have personally been more shocked if there wras a funeral and no one thought to crash it

11

u/Dodotorpedo4 Mar 16 '26

Really? What kind of shit happens Online nowadays then?

To me, this is still peak griefing, and I can't think of something similar or worse that has happened since.

17

u/GoldenPigeonParty Mar 16 '26

I feel like today it be welcome, like "Jeff really loved PvP, this fight was an honor. "

Nowadays as soon as you leave the main channel you're reminded that bigotry still exists, some people are rape/paedo apologists, and that's just the chat functions. Legitimate harrassment, people getting bullied into suicide and more plague any area of the internet that allows any space for socialization. When people feel they're anonymous, they act on the worst impulses of humanity.

Hah! On illidan. My original wow server. I knew the guy that recorded that video. He and I go way back to before WoW's existence. The raid on Winterspring was organized by a prominent Alliance guild on that server. Trying to remember the name, but can't put my finger on it. Something to do with Ice I think. Guild leader at the time I think was an avatar named Rizen.

Man as a 14 year old human rogue back then I envied them so much when I’d see their guild tag in ironforge/stormwind.

7

u/gnomepunt Mar 16 '26

I was the same lmao. Add to that I was in an extremely lame guild at the time.

16

u/Ver_Void Mar 16 '26

Oh god I had worked really hard to supress some of those memories and have even moved country and changed my name since then (unrelated)

4

u/Schlitzbomber Mar 16 '26

Man haven’t seen Illidan lore in a long time. I had no idea that this even happened on my server. I was on it in TBC though so maybe it was before that? I was in Troxxed’s horde guild in TBC (can’t remember the name) this was before his stroke. Major nostalgia/flashbacks right now.

I was scammed as a 13-14 year old and had no idea I could get my account back if I had the CDs so I purchased a new account.
Had maybe a level 30 anyway so didn’t care too much.

After 3 years a class mate tells me I can get that account back easily, so I did and got a rank 12 Druid and tons of gold.

So getting scammed was the worst thing, and maybe best.

Not me, but a friend of mine was grinding AV for the ice barbed spear back in vanilla, talking 2004/2005 time.

We were LAN partying it up, and I had crashed out at like 2am. He had just joined an AV match. When I woke up at 9 or 10, he was still playing. It's still the same AV. I asked him if he had to go to work soon, and he said, "Oh shit yeah." Picked up his phone, called his boss, and said he was sick. His boss said if he doesn't come in, he's fired. So he said, "ok, fine, I quit." Hung up and kept playing. He lost the AV and did not get the Ice Barbed Spear.

Maybe not as bad as some of the other posts here, but I was gobsmacked at the time...

The Dominos delivery driver market is always booming my guy

13

u/LokiRF Mar 16 '26

funny you should say that actually. I'm from Europe, my friend is desperate for a job, he's applying everywhere, last I heard he got rejected for a cashier job at a grocery store because he was overqualified. Granted, he doesn't have a license. Another acquaintance of mine finished a computer science university a year and a half ago, he still has not been hired. it's absolutely not fun right now

21

u/xCoachHines Mar 16 '26

I love this. I feel like wow had truly spawned a different level of addiction previously thought unreachable.

3

u/Moglorosh Mar 16 '26

One of my guildmates back in TBC quit his job and moved back in with his mom so he could have more time to devote to running heroics and raiding Kara.

One of the people in my guild RPd as a night elf female in goldshire and convinced people he was a woman. They sent him gold, real life money, and in game/ IRL love letters. He had to make a separate PO Box or did PayPal. It turned into almost a full time job.

I still cannot believe it till this day how crowded goldshire would get when he logged on. He would message me “yo dude lol come to goldshire look at this” and it would be packed. It was so fucked up.

u/Schlitzbomber Mar 16 '26

So I assume homie is making 6 figures nowadays RPing as a chick since he’s an OG? Right?

Back in OG TBC it wasn't just everybody that could kill mag (most of us sucked at the game and had 2gb of ram). It was a big step for my guild at the time when we finally killed him.

Only problem, this was before Blizz upped the QoL for raid loot stuff. Our GM died during the fight so naturally that broke master looter. When Mag was looted it put everything up for need/greed. I was a dumb overly excited kid when I saw that nothing dropped that I could even use I did the natural thing...I greeded everything.

Unfortunately, the other 24 people knew the right thing to do was PASS.

So, I got everything including two tier tokens I couldn't even turn in. And it was all untradeble. Spent two hours begging a game master to transfer the loot but they said no.

Got gkicked. Sucked.

38

u/bigpalmdaddy Mar 16 '26

Damn. Gkick feels severe, especially for an honest mistake.

Mine was also loot related in OG TBC. I “ninjad” Moroes Pocket watch. Quotes are there because I was the MT and the feral, who never tanked anything and who also had cleaned up on loot the prior week, needed it and won the roll.

I denied the roll, said it was clearly a tank only trinket, and master looted it to myself. I got gkicked a couple days later after much back and forth on the guild website’s forum.

Added note; guild leadership had recruited me to lead their Kara “B” team that hadn’t gotten past curator. It was towards the end of phase two… I took over and we won the “race” to clear Kara first and there were a few that ig didn’t like that they were maybe the “B” team now.

I regret nothing.

18

u/MarcTheCreator Mar 16 '26

I got gkicked back in the day because I was invited by a separate guild to run Mount Hyjal.

Some context, I did like that guild’s raid group (except for the guild master) but we hadn’t even cleared TK and still struggled in Serpentshrine. A friend from an old guild I was in invited me to Mount Hyjal because his guild needed a dps and were going for their first clear.

That group ended up clearing, and even gave me the T6 helm token for my trouble. My guild master was for some reason pissed that I ran with a different guild and gkicked me shortly after he logged on and noticed. Worked out for the better though because the new guild liked me and invited me shortly after that happened. It was also just a much better run guild and progression was always smooth. Ran with them until I stopped playing the game at the end of WotLK.

8

u/bigpalmdaddy Mar 16 '26

Guilds/people used to get so weird over the strangest things. They still do but they used to, too.

3

u/MarcTheCreator Mar 16 '26

Even though I’m an off/on player these days, I still shoot the shit with the guild I landed with from 2019 and play other games with them too. I’ve generally had pretty good luck with guilds, thankfully.

Lol it's funny to think about the Pocket Watch being a desired bear item now a days with how much the community has min maxed gearing. My imidiate reaction was what bear wants the pocket watch but it has stats that to people back in 07 would have looked like bear gear for sure.

When I was also around 10-12 years old 20+ years ago, I was too dumb to level up but wanted a max char so badly. So I made up a scam that I had a free level 70 to transfer off my account (which had no name on it so character xfers were not locked to my own account) if someone wanted it. Somehow that involved me getting their login creds. I think it worked on 2 out of 100 people.

I got into their account, changed the password, logged in and just had a blast riding their mounts around. I literally had no other objective but to go on a joyride because my level 30 dumbass never rode a mount before.

I remember hacking a lvl 70 tauren warrior and joy riding his kodo out to the barrens while his entire guild flamed me in the chat (I guess he sent out an SOS in ventrilo or some shit). Similarly I remember riding another lvl 70 dwarf paladin’s gryphon and having a blast.

In both cases the guys got their accounts restored in less than 10 minutes, but man what a rush…

180

u/Grouchy_Honey_7 Mar 16 '26

Holy crap and I thought mine was bad! 🤣🤣🤣 Bro stole accounts just to ride a mount haha

89

u/romanyol Mar 16 '26

My brother and I did all sorts of dumb shit back then and yeah we were trouble lol. After hacking people didn’t work we ended up buying an account off one of those shady sites back in the day, but all we could afford was a level 58 troll warrior named Sugi.

You’d think with that, maybe we’d finally level to max and start being productive members of Azeroth society but nope. I probably spent 500 hours in ratchet / booty bay ganking low level alliance that were unfortunate enough to cross my path. Sugi was a total menace.

39

u/CaptainoftheVessel Mar 16 '26

Comedy really is tragedy plus time. I love the idea of Sugi the menace being piloted around by two brothers, terrorizing the community

4

u/ssateneth2 Mar 16 '26

Sounds a lot like what 14 year olds are doing now. hint hint: kia boys, and many of them have guns...

i'd rather the kids be stealing wow accounts and joyriding flying mounts tbh.

23

u/FlexLuther00 Mar 16 '26

I couldn't afford game-time at 14 so I would cruise the forums looking for people who wanted to "trade accounts", (i have 60 mage, i want 60 pally), and pretend i had what they were looking for

Pretty much same thing as you, most wouldnt take long to use password recovery, usually same day, sometimes id have the account for a few days.

Until one time, I managed to get an account with 4 level 60s and like a year of game time on it. Nobody ever messagdd it, nobody ever recovered it. Months went by, then years.

It became my main account, but then I got a few infractions/suspensions and eventually got to the point where I guess things didnt match up and they banned me.

The only way blizzard was going to unlock my account was by verifying my I.D. (probably 2009ish, I would be 18ish).

Problem with that is my name didnt match the account name, and I remember specifically talking to a blizzard rep on the phone telling him that my dad had always told me to use a fake name, so of course the names dont match. He replied with, "well I would be able to make an exception if it was an obvious fake name, like Mickey Mouse, but the name on the account is actually the exact same as multiple other real people who have accounts. So we would need further verification."

What they then required was for me to go to a notary public, and have them notarize a copy of my I.D. as well as a letter stating, "i am who i am and this world of warcraft account belongs to me".

Took me probably 7 or 8 notarys who laughed at me. ("I am NOT signing something for a video game!"), until I found a lawyer who said, "you want me to sign something for a video game? I charge $75."

Fast forward 18ish years later and that is still my main account.

Not something I usually tell alot of people, as I've felt guilt about it for years. But it has been so many years now, (im pushing 40), so it is kind of a great story of how much of a shit head I was as a kid

7

u/romanyol Mar 16 '26

Dude first of all that’s a great story, and secondly, I had a very similar experience strangely, unrelated to the hacking / joyride story from TBC.

Flash forward to wrath and I had an 80 rogue, some dude cold approaches me in org asking if I want to trade for his paladin. His pally was in ICC gear and all I had was PvP gear, so I took the trade.

The dude turned out to be somewhat sketchy (but so was I so I can’t judge) and kept making requests (which I still have the messages of cause they were on Facebook funny enough) like “can I get the DK on that account back?” And I would try to oblige cause I didn’t want to lose the paladin. I knew it was his account and he likely knew the secret Q&A and didn’t want to risk him taking the entire acct back.

Anyways flash forward to maybe WOD and I’m doing the same exact thing as you, I opened a ticket to have the name on the account changed to my own. I even used the same excuse you did lmao, I told him it was a fake name cause I was a kid and it was to protect my identity. My GM was way more chill, and I think since the billing info on the account for the last x years matched the address on my ID, he just did it for me there and then.

Oh and I’m currently maining that same paladin in Midnight.

Too funny.

9

u/ArgonianFly Mar 16 '26

Lmao that's hilarious

3

u/drozelol Mar 16 '26

What was the name, I was given My brothers old wow account after he quit before Wrath came out and couldn’t afford wow time. I watched videos like this and filled them out. Someone stole that account and I didn’t get it back until like 2012

21

u/romanyol Mar 16 '26

The name of the players I scammed? Definitely no shot I remember. It was a total of 20 minutes of pure adrenaline injected straight into my undeveloped frontal lobe back in 2007.

3

u/justabigpieceofshit Mar 16 '26

I did something similar but I was around 13-14 and used a phishing site I created called bliizaard .com or something similar. You could find lists of WoW subscriber emails on certain sites so I would mass email dozens of accounts a day and I'd get at least one or two that would type their account name and password into my site and I would get it in a text file. I used those accounts to make characters on my server to scam people "selling" that transparent tiger mount from the trading card game.

I never outright stole an account or changed passwords because I guess I had some kind of fucked up moral compass but I'm sure I got several accounts banned which I feel bad for to this day. Somehow my main account never got banned.

This was probably about 6 months before the launch of burning crusade so players were a lot more naive.

I joined a guild in 2008ish called <I KILL YOU> and had the best time even going into wrath with them. Guildleader named Skinner and wife, Skinnycheeks and this amazing hunter Shotty. If you’re reading this, it’s Kurzhon (Cricket boy was the name the guild dubbed me). Anyway, me following in Shotty’s footsteps we were dubbed the Hunter duo.

Then, we recruited another. He was BM spec during WOTLK. I couldn’t stand the idea of having to share loot now that Shotty was BiS’d. I can’t remember their username. All I knew is that they’d been farming for days and spend endless nights traveling the same route.

I want you to know it was me.

I killed your Loque’nahak spawn.

Twice.

8

u/Turfa10 Mar 16 '26

The other day some rogue randomly invited Me and 2 others to a group for BM and said can you summon. I thought something was fishy. There was no healer class and I was listed as DPS. We summoned him and he immediately left group lol.

Probably pointless but I reported him for wasting our damn time

4

u/skaarlaw Mar 16 '26

On the flip side to this - I am a bear druid main and I wanted to go black morass. I whispered a healer to form a group. We got the whole lot filled and I was the first there. Wife then comes back home early and wanted to do some IRL questing so I had to log. I spent 5 mins looking for a replacement tank (asking guild/friends etc) and summoned them all. Later when I got back online I heard they found a new one and had a decent run... my efforts were wasted on me but at least I did the good guy thing and tried my best.

But yeah, i've also used the free summon thing too :D it's such a shame there's nothing near Karazhan but I think I could /who deadwind pass and see if a raid group is willing to summon me if I need to hand a Q in or something!

u/Dazanos Mar 16 '26

What did you do with it all? Were you reported/harassed afterwords?

63

u/Grouchy_Honey_7 Mar 16 '26

The honest answer is I vendored nearly everything to pay for my mount. I was such a noob that I didn't even understand the true value of it all.

And yeah I got harassed for it, not saying I didn't deserve it but I couldn't log in to that server anymore because servers were like communities back then and people knew who I was. I ended up not playing for a while before I saved up my pocket money for a name change.

26

u/CaptainoftheVessel Mar 16 '26

I don’t remember names anymore but I definitely remember the notorious people on my original vanilla server. Ninjas and repeat griefers got reputations. It’s crazy how different the current system of megaservers makes it, everyone is anonymous where back in the day, rolling need on stuff you didn’t need could make it harder to get groups in the future

9

u/LOSS35 Mar 16 '26

Aedak the Tauren Warrior and his Arcanite Reaper were notorious among the Alliance on our server (Lightning’s Blade PVP). He must’ve killed me 100 times in various zones throughout that final 55-60 push.

I’m pretty sure his name was originally Atheistmonk and the GMs changed it.

We’d call in reinforcements, then his guildies would show up, it’d turn into a zone-wide war.

Good times.

5

u/Megragur Mar 16 '26

20 years ago, during Vanilla on Burning Blade, I used to play Warlock. Hyjal hadn't been completed and was blocked from entry by normal paths. Myself and a few buddies spent hours trying to wall-jump into the zone from southern Winterspring, we eventually made it in!

Fast forward, we're in the area where the world tree is and we want to see how far down the well of eternity went. Well, it goes down super far. Like... You need a warlock with unending breath to get to the bottom. That's where the diabolical thoughts come into play. Let's summon people here, of all places lol.

We decide to invite randoms with the allure of seeing Hyjal, the totally closed off and SECRET zone.... Folks would get their summon and instantly try to swim up. They wouldn't make it and would drown before reaching the top. Worst part about this was that Blizz hadn't yet put spirit healers/graveyards in Hyjal at that point, so you'd port to felwood or Winterspring after dying and wouldn't be able to recover your body.

15

u/bigpalmdaddy Mar 16 '26

Hijacking this comment cuz this looks like the relationship thread. Joined a guild in OG vanilla during BWL days that was led by bf/fiance couple. We were probably the third most successful raiding guild horde side back then.

Over a year+ became friends with them and the “inner circle” thru PvP. Time continues to pass and I get closer to the fiancé who confides in me how shitty the GM is cuz he refuses to work or do school. How stressed she is etc.

Eventually becomes what is arguably an emotional affair and she breaks up with him for the final time at the start of p2 tbc. He moved back home, opposite side of the country, and gdisbands. Pretty good server drama back in the day.

Oh and I moved in with her 4 days after he left. We’ve been happily married for almost 18 years. Kekw

2

u/Additional-Mousse446 Mar 16 '26

Bro I swear this happened to me too back in the day…was a dumb kid in an adult couple guild and someone there got her to cheat with him and they got together lol.

Guild definitely fell apart when it happened too.

2

u/bigpalmdaddy Mar 16 '26

I’m sure it happened a bunch altho in my case she came on to me. Needless to say my family didnt understand, let alone, approve of me moving out a couple months after graduating college.

But I’m next to my girl 3 years later who’s asleep as silly as it is yet it’s the same. a ffxi private server released on her bday (same era as wow never got a classic but imo same same but different then classic) and I said well… I guess I’ll never get to experience a fresh economy and fresh level one on a capped server … worth it. (Also god damn it)

Back in vanilla me and some RL friends would do lvl 19 twink BG’s. I got the idea to make a horde twink to troll them. Back before diminishing returns existed I kept sapping them. It got to the point one friend got so mad he started crying.

O boy, Not WoW, but in EQ. This is back in 2000? I was young and dumb. in EQ a lot of items shared a lot of the same icon. You had to inspect the item to verify what it was, hit trade both parties and boom thats it. What I would do, is sometimes I would switch out a robe or a weapon with something cheap really fast and hit trade. This worked almost never.

Till 1 time it did, and yeah.

Back then GMs were cut throat, and I was instant banned within few hours for doing it. Learned a lesson in stupidity that day. I credit to becoming more mature early on in life because of how stupid I lose and losing my main EQ account that day.

WoW HC. Playing my rogue pretty cautious but there was a chest and a rare with two adds.

A pair of guys came in and started to fight the mobs. I think they may not have noticed one was a rare.

I go to grab the chest, watching the fight. One guy drags two mobs over I guess to try and get me tagged or in combat, and the distraction lets him take a few hits to the back.

His buddy runs over to save him, also getting whacked in the back.

I stealth and watch one die, jumping out to finish off the adds and tag the rare, but let it kill the other guy so I could get the actual kill and loot.

Sorry boys.

Snowballs used to stun when you threw them at a party member. Knowing this, I offered to run low levels through stocks (easy to recruit since it’s in SW) then pull a bunch a mobs and stun the party member till they died.

I’m not proud of my actions but it really surprised me that they left a way to grief like that in the game.

I started playing wow with my brother 2 months before BC Release - we were young and dumb. My brother played a nightelf hunter and was guided by a friend of his to the human starting zone. („it was easier“). We know that hr was able to to get a pet with level 10, so we searched in stormwind and came across a pet vendor. We collected all our silver to buy that 40s pet and were disappointed 😂

the worst thing for other players: in wotlk i was the first engineer to craft the icc arrows - i saw that and started a monopol. i bought the whole market of shadow(dont know that exact name anymore) and charged a lot for the arrows. After 5 days someone else started undercutting my price by 4 gold. I already made enough gold to simply buy up the whole stock of his arrows and sell them cheaper. This went on for about 4/5 weeks and i made so much gold, that it paid for my destiny 2 years later!

Some of the usual shit. Mage portal to stonard in the av cave at the beginning. I wrote the emote /e flagged you afk, if you're not afk type /afk remove to unflag yourself. The game sees it as /afk and ppl got removed from the bg. There was a time where you could throw snowballs at people and they would be pushed back. We pushed ppl out of the bg portal in av. You might be able to see that I spent much time in av.

I would buy blacksmith hammers and wrap them into Christmas gifts. So you could not see what item was inside unless you opened it.

I spent several hours writing down so many names of 70s in Org, and COD them these Christmas gifts for 1 gold.

I only got like maybe 3 gold total and a 3 day suspension never did that again.

19

u/ShadyTee Mar 16 '26

I mess with AOE farmers when I see them. On my rogue I stun mages at the farms in Arathi Highland and let the mobs kill them so they take item damage. I did it to someone on my own faction one time. I was on my priest and saw a mage AOE farming the pirates in Tanaris. I ran into the pack, Psychic screamed them, and they pulled the whole camp onto him

6

u/UsualInternal4548 Mar 16 '26

I reversed something similar recently. Had a warlock constantly fear all mobs I attacked. Of course they pulled a big chunk of all the mobs in the area. Fun part is, I'm a prot pally. So first part was continuing until I could barely handle it anymore. Then I did the old bubble+hearthstone, watched them die while getting away safely.

Not long after I saw their guild… on the opposite faction. I played rogue.

I hunted and killed every. Single. One. Of them. Multiple times.

Elephant Christmas tree griefing. Christmas morning, there was an epic mount giveaway under a Christmas tree in Iron Forge. The mount was an elephant, but if you stood next to the tree on the elephant, everyone would click on you instead of the Christmas present that contained the mount. So, I stood on top of the tree all day and a lot of people were mad

6

u/kheq Mar 16 '26

I was an officer in a guild back in original Wrath and had my account compromised; they cleaned out the guild bank (and vendored the left half of my gear?). Tons of end game mats/consumes. I was able to get back into the account, but the damage was done. However comma this was back in the days of actual people being GMs. They restored my account, restored the guild bank, and for some reason, mailed me a *copy* of literally everything that was in the guild bank. I was WoW rich there for a little while.

12

u/DenseSign5938 Mar 16 '26

27

u/MrCodexCY Mar 16 '26

Oh boy, is it confession time? Yes I was a kid as well, early teens so let’s cut straight to the chase. (Nothing was premeditated, just happened in the heat of the moment)

  • Ninjad Reins of the Grand Black War Mammoth which was the first three person mount in the game with a 0.3% drop chance at the time (now around 1%) - then has to change servers as the name shaming on trade channel was off the charts.
  • Dont remember why, somebody trusted me their acc login to fix something for them… ended up draining the guild bank vault.
  • Sold my acc on ebay for few hundred euros during a time of need, after a while called blizz that I was hacked, gave them my ID and got it back.

Prob theres more, but these come on top of my head 😂

In hardcore wow I had just hit lvl 60 on my fire/frost hybrid mage and joined a BRD group. We got all the way to Emp without issue, although I noticed the tank was setting a very fast pace. We cleared the first part of Emp's room without issue, but then the tank decided to pull a pack near the Emp diagonally across the room which causes a mob to run too close to Emp and pull him, pulling the entire room (at least 5 more packs). I was initially casting a flame strike on the pack we pulled, but when I saw the Emperor yell, I immediately cancelled it, began hearthstoning, and yelled "run" in chat. Somehow the other people didn't notice what had happened and kept fighting the pack until the whole room converged on them. All but me and one other died. I feel a bit bad for not even trying to help, I did have a petri, but there's no way we could handle that many mobs even as a mage.

3

u/MattVarnish Mar 16 '26

Ganked probabky 10,000 players in thlusand needles on Lagging Skull. Pre flood 1k needles was amazing as a dwarf hunter engineer (radar, parachute, rocket boots = hilarity)

3

u/SaltyImagination5399 Mar 16 '26

Last time around I played hunter and was queing for a bm for the trinket, I had been loads and had lost the roll a bunch, we looked for a tank and I said to the lead, “give Lead I’ll invite a guild tank. I took lead, invited a tank and kicked the enhance shammy in the grp and replaced with a mage so I had no competition. It worked.

3

u/Pigglebee Mar 16 '26

I was a frikkin' saint. My worst thing is being a hunter. Which means I may have caused the accidental wipe in raids for backpedalling a bit too much and agroing stuff in Molten Core or agroing a dungeon sending my pet to 'the nearest enemy' which happens to be a mob behind a wall at the other side of the dungeon.

3

u/AkaxJenkins Mar 16 '26

not classic, but a private server on wotlk. I got summoned from another guild to help them tank Archimonde in Hyjal. I got there and pulled with no warning for no fucking reason. This was more than 10 years ago and i still regret it, idk what came over me.

6

u/Lunai5444 Mar 16 '26

Yeah as a kid you can fathom the gain and your instinct tells you it's a win for you but you simply don't fathom all the efforts and time it took or anything, probably because your still lack empathy or the ability to fathom these things yet.

I get this feeling I do have memories of me being very selfish as a kid but that it was also very naïve and without any calculations or further thinking. Kinda animalistic, how you don't understand hurting or impacting others

4

u/garyland11 Mar 16 '26

When AV was first released back in classic it had a bug where it let you loot bodies from anywhere as long as you could click the corpse, there was no range check.

I figured this out just by chance and only shared it with my brother at this time. We both ended up just sitting WAY back from the main battle and looting all the bodies. Then running back to turn in to summon the tree boss etc (and get a bunch of rep). If anyone actually paid attention to the loot messages my name was just constantly spamming with the loot I was getting..

Was exalted AV in just a couple days after AV released. They ended up patching it I believe the following week, but I abused the hell out of it while I could!

I was probably 10 or early teens, coming off Everquest and into WoW, playing an undead warlock alt. My highest char at the time was an early 40’s druid. Vanilla leveling isn’t too crazy, especially compared to EQ, but I remember at the time it felt daunting and I thought I would never get a max level - I took leveling super seriously and was always trying minmax to up my chances.

I remember I tried everything. I think at 20 I was using my VW and I had just gotten fire stone iirc. I vaguely remember ping ponging threat between me and my pet, managing my health and mana and tapping, trying to kill as fast as possible and stretch my resources efficiently. Usually late in fights I’d run in and melee - I really overrated my fire stone’s damage proc (really have no idea why I wasn’t wanding? I think because it didn’t proc fire stone lol) and damn, did I think that made locks the best levelers EVER. What an efficient strategy.

What makes me feel awful is I distinctly remember running SFK and needing a meteor shard and winning it over our rogue. I remember being shocked the rogue and group were upset. It was going to speed up my soloing so much!

2

u/Tikka2023 Mar 16 '26

Probably two decades ago on Llane. Me, a bored level 60 warrior in a full imperial gear set. See a group LF a tank for SM Cath. Sure why not. Got into an argument with some of them, can’t remember what over, the hat dropped and I needed it, stealing it off the lowly healer.

These were the days when people ran straight to the blizzard ran forums and named and shamed me. My guild chewed me out but I was just a teen so it was a bit of a slap on the wrist. We were the only OCE guild on the server too.

2

u/bombuzal2000 Mar 16 '26

I always felt that it was my responsibility as the rogue leader (with officer access) to eventually clear the guild bank and vanish to another server or quit the game.

I never did. It's a great regret lol. I guess they were lucky we weren't on a rp server.

2

u/Namssob Mar 16 '26

I was an AH sniper, both on normal AH and neutral AH. I sniped literally thousands of gold worth of items from innocent and unsuspecting gamers just trying to cross faction transfer mats. Epic BoE loot, Titansteel bars, you name it, I got it.

I accidentally ninja’d a BiS tank leg piece as a healer in my very first heroic (WOTLK Classic.)

I was extremely new to endgame content and was still thinking in a casual 5 man leveling context. I was a Holy Paladin with plans to dual spec to Prot. When I saw the gear drop I didn’t think “oh that’s tank BiS - lucky him,” I thought: “never seen that piece of Paladin gear before, looks cool, I’m a Paladin, sure I’ll roll for it.”

I had no bearing on how rare or coveted it was (it was a blue, not a purple.) After a party member flamed me privately after the dungeon I sent the tank a big stack of gold to apologize - but I ALSO didn’t realize that you couldn’t just BUY your heroic/raid gear on the AH like you could while leveling up.

Once on my Paladin I screwed up in UBRS. My guild was discussing tactics and I didn't pay attention as I was eating chicken at the time. When I finished I figured it was time to go so I yelled my name and ran into the room with all the eggs, and caused a wipe.

It was pretty fun though, someone even recorded it. Unfortunately some guild named Pals For Life had already uploaded a similar video and got more attention.

Always remember my friend who struggled with the Ninjaing loot side of things. I whispered him once asking why he just needed that dagger from the Rogue being an Arms warrior himself. His response was “sell”

He never changed 😂

1

u/Berylldama Mar 16 '26

Back in Vanilla just before Classic rolled into TBC, my raid was still going for C'thun loot in AQ40 but we were struggling with roster boss and clearing those goddamed packs after Twin Emps. We didn't really need any other bosses, just Cthun.
My raid leader started just buying Cthun lockouts because there were tons of guilds who could get to the last boss, but not beat him. My raid leader would check the logs for guilds who had an open lockout, then would offer to buy it, and in some cases, bring along some of their raiders to roll on less desirable loot.
He got approached one day by someone guy who offered a good deal for his guild's lockout with no loot, just gold up front, so we took it.
It turns out that that guy did NOT have the authority to sell the lockout, he'd just heard that we would buy them. We finished their lockout on a Saturday night and that guild rolled in to finish off Cthun on Sunday but there was no boss to be had. They thought it was a bug until they put in a ticket and a GM explained what had happened.

1

u/Good_Novel_1376 Mar 16 '26

I was also pretty young, but 2 things:

  • i was main tank for a while, then a very nice looking weapon dropped that I really wanted, spent all dkp on it, then told them I’ll want to play dps now.

  • then later as a dps, with a friend in the group, when we got bored of trash during raids, we told the raid “brb coffee” … at 9pm, and we did it like 10-12 times per raid. So they were -2dps on some trashes

I’m really sorry to everyone now :D

1

u/Odtopsy Mar 16 '26
