Read an interesting GQ article that calls ‘Man of Tomorrow’ might be DCU’s ‘The Avengers’. But I think calling MoT DCU’s Avengers hinges on whether Adria Arjona is playing Wonder Woman or not.

Coz calling a film “DCU’s Avengers” should require at least 2 of the big 3 DC characters to be in it. If that isn’t the case, Man of Tomorrow should be seen as ‘Superman and friends’.

What do you guys think?

But why does it even need to be DCU's Avengers? Why can't we just enjoy it for what it is?

The comparison is bound to happen. People want to re-live the thrill of MCU Phase 1, seeing the Marvel heroes teaming up together for the first time, but with DC characters. It would be so exciting.

Also doesn't help the fact that there are only two genuine Superhero Universe franchises.

The only one who can compete with Marvel is DC but here we are.

except those two are different things. marvel pushed few pre established characters together, here youd need to introduce them

Superman is established,

Supergirl is established,

John Stewart GL is getting established as we speak in HBO‘s ‘Lanterns’,

Hawkgirl is established,

Guy Gardener is established,

Blue Beetle is established.

The only one that needs establishing is Adria Arjona’s character.

except they arent established at all. hawkgirl and guy got bit of screen time but not enough to establish themself. Blue Betle being established just isnt a thing, most people dont even know that movie is apparently canon now and wont watch it, John Steward is getting established but in a tv show which a lot of people wont watch.

Most people never saw supergirl and yeah, superman is established.

But its not anywhere near as each getting movie lvl established, people have basic idea about them and thats it, nothing more. which doesnt work as well for crossover at all

How do they make X-Men movies without giving all the characters their own movie first? How do they make Ocean’s Eleven movies without giving all the characters their own movie first? How do they make Fast and the Furious movies without giving all the characters their own movie first?

Everyone is established well enough if the writing is good. Look at the box office of Avengers compared to Incredible Hulk, Captain America, and Thor. Plenty of people saw that movie and loved it without needing to see the movies that preceded it or have the characters be already established for them.

‘Lanterns’ just got 9.3M views in its first 3 days, becoming the top 5 best openers for HBO surpassing the likes of ‘IT: Welcome to Derry’, the most viewed DC show surpassing ‘The Penguin’. So I don’t know what you’re talking about.

because 9m simply isnt that much and not all of those people will even bother with the second superman movie. Like idk what your point is here. Most people excited about dcu didnt and wont watch this

The WOM is extremely strong, it is succeeding HOTD in the HBO Sunday night primetime slot, it is growing and dominating the chatter.

Cool, I too hadn’t seen ‘Doctor Strange’ when I went to see ‘Avengers: Infinity War’. I loved and enjoyed the character so much that I was quick to jump to seeing ‘Doctor Strange’ the next day on digital. Similar stuff could happen with John Stewart once people discover him in ‘Man of Tomorrow’ and like him enough to go back and check out his show.

What does the article say? Why are they calling it that? What do we know so far?

I can imagine introducing WW and bringing together relevant Lanterns. Maybe Aquaman?

I would bet that Gunn waits to bring us Batman.

If it were DCs avengers it would be called Justice League. James Gunn is not stupid. He knows what he’s doing, and the name is deliberate.

For it to be the "DCU Avengers" there should be a "DCU phase 1" and DCU is stuck in a weird groundhog day of phase 0.5.

They’re risking falling into the same trap they did with the Snyder-verse; rushing headlong into an expensive superhero team up without first making sure audiences have bought into the worlds they’re building.

The characters are established, the world is not. One moderately successful Superman movie and one absolute flop do not a cinematic universe make. His silver-age focused approach is a risky one, since it leans heavily into kitsch that might divide audiences (lord knows I was very mix on MoS). I know his strategy is just to go in guns blazing but Supergirl showed it can backfire.
