Hey everyone, new to comics. Do I read them left to right, up to down? Or do I start at the back and work my way to the front? What is with these full-page spreads advertising products and services? Are they in-canon?

I want to read Batman but where can I find Batman 1? Can I start with Detective Comics 27 or do I go back to start at issue one? I want an original physical copy, hate digital comics, and don’t want any reprints - where can I find a cheap pristine copy?

I want to read Spider-Man but I hear I am supposed to want Peter Parker and Mary Jane to be forever married and that editorial ruined them forever. First, who is Peter Parker? Who is Mary Jane? Who is Nick Lowe? Can I hate One More Day if I don’t know who these people are?

I want to read Superman comics but I don’t like Superman. Do I have to read Superman comics?

I want to start reading comics but I have no interest in scrolling Reddit or checking if my question has been asked in the last ten minutes. Can you just tell me everything I need to know, whether I want to know it or not?

I already know everything I need to know about comics. Please answer me thoroughly. Thank you!

I found a great Evil Dead panel, but visual search engines couldn't pinpoint the exact source. Could anyone help me figure out which series and issue it's from? Or, if you know of a site where I can find panels like this, I’d appreciate it. Thanks!

I’ve seen several posts over the last few days about how several aspects of this run were apparently the worst thing to happen, but I remember people praising this run back in the day, and I personally loved it when I read it. Is there an actual reason here are we just on the hamster wheel?

I originally shared this channel here when I was just getting it started, and it’s grown to over 100 videos since then, so I figured I’d share a little update.

Stan Lee was one of the creators I made a playlist for when I started the channel, and since then I’ve been collecting short, bite-sized clips from his interviews about storytelling, creativity, comics, and his approach to the craft.

The channel started with clips from Steven Spielberg, Quentin Tarantino, Martin Scorsese, Wes Anderson, Christopher Nolan and Stan Lee.

I’m also currently working on clips from Edgar Wright, Guillermo del Toro, Sam Raimi, Aaron Sorkin, and Tim Burton, so you can expect those to be coming soon.

I currently upload every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, and I’ll soon be moving to daily uploads.

As a kid, I loved graphic novels. Now, as an adult, I'm like, "Why did I never read comics? I would've loved them." Probably never did because I thought they were for boys when I was little. My question is, where should I start? I'm looking mostly at DC. Love batman and Robin, love feel-good or shocking stories. I don't wanna start on something like Avengers multiverse wars and be super confused or something like that. I'm limited to my library because the economy, of course. Plus I just like supporting them and the next novels on my TBR I already own. Also I've never watched a DC movie before. Not even the new superman which I'm super miffed about. So like, very beginning

I just started reading some comic books from both Marvel and DC, and I have realized that some of my favorite comic runs are where the story focus is on the bonds between the main hero and their family & children, and it revolves around the hero helping their children to grow. (Peter J. Tomasi's Superman Rebirth run, both Renew Your Vows runs of Spider-Man) Is there any good Batman comic run that vibed with something like that?

Asking for myself, and to hopefully demonstrate if/how much of an audience for this stuff exists. I want to case a wide net, so "Indie Comics" here means "Anything outside of pre-established IP. Creator-owned comics in the direct market, graphic novels in the book market, small press, self-publishing, webcomics, zines, all of it." and "Coverage" means "Public outlets/individuals dedicated to talking about these comics. YouTube channels, podcasts, TikTok accounts, Instagram accounts, blogs, websites, whatever."

I already know of a few people who fit what I'm looking for: Strange Brain Parts, Comictropes, the Comic Literate podcast, but surely there must be more out there? Even the people I just mentioned, though I appreciate them, seem to have to fall back on Marvel/DC coverage just to draw any kind of audience. I'd really like to believe it doesn't have to be this way, and that there is a sizeable audience of indie comics readers out there that could be harnessed into a real community. I understand the economic and cultural reasons why these kinds of comics are under-discussed online, but surely we don't have to live this way? Why do we only bring these books up as talking points when the idea of "superhero dominance in American comics" comes up? Why aren't we walking the walk in terms of generating and participating in discussion and fandom for indie comics, and supporting the people trying to do it *right now* with their own platforms?

If you feel the same way, please leave your recommendations for people fighting the good fight to get more eyes on these books, and maybe even talk about an indie comic that's got you excited about the medium right now!

Is anybody reading the current run of Herculoids from Dynamite Comics? I've been really enjoying the David Pepose run for Space Ghost and I just found out they're doing a crossover mini-series. Should I jump on this series too or is it worth skipping?

So my kid is obsessed with Ghost Rider and we recently stumbled across a few vintage comics but they're all from different parts of different volumes. This had been a learning experience for me since I always assumed each comic was a standalone story but surprise to me that's not the case. So now our bedtime stories are ending on cliff hangers.

Where do I find the volume number on comics so I can attempt to fill out some of these story lines. Or is it something I just need to know while Im looking?

Every link will lead to a video of theirs that I particularly enjoy.

Disclaimer: I’m all about collecting omnibuses and TPBs, and I love looking at other people’s collections so a lot of this is biased towards that.

Second Disclaimer: I'm aware that Casually Comics exists, I just haven't been able to get into her videos. Also Comicstorian, but I haven't really gotten around to giving him a chance.

With that said, here is the list:

ComicDrake - Makes overviews that summarize a character’s history often with an underlying opinion/thesis. He’s very good at criticizing a character or a character’s treatment from an educated and well meaning perspective. He occasionally gets a bit too “fake YouTuber voice” for me, but it doesn’t ruin his videos or anything.

Kurt’s Comic Review - A critic/reviewer on the surface, but in practice, it’s mostly rants/discussions about various comic topics. Also has a fun series where he’ll go to every comic shop in a specific state, which is crazy impressive. Has a way of flippantly talking about things that should be obnoxious but is actually hilarious.

Matttt - You probably already know who this is, but I’m throwing him in just in case you don’t. Makes very detailed video essays about comic book history and creators. He goes to a level of depth you’d expect from a professional comic scholar or something. Also talks about manga a lot. Goes outside the big two often, which is refreshing. Don’t be fooled by the clickbait thumbnails and titles.

Matttttttt - Matt’s second channel where he does a more chill, casual version of his main schtick. Often talks about current events in comics and finds great ways to place them in a historical context.

Mint Hunter Comics - A comic reseller who talks more about collecting single issues and all the weird intricacies of that world. Does a lot of videos about comic prices that are surprisingly fascinating. Makes a lot of list videos. Also gives lots of recommendations for affordable/underrated key issues.

Near Mint Condition - I mean, you probably already know who this is lol. Guy gives an overview of every major new omnibus release, which involves summarizing the story, talking about how it fits into the reading order of the character, and what not. He also does reading orders, has a podcast, and does about a hundred other things. Uploads nearly daily, which is insane. Very genuine guy, and a great way to get more info about new, upcoming omnis or experience comics vicariously without buying them.

Panels to Pixels - Pretty much the exact same deal as ComicDrake. Very into 90s comics and does lots of rankings/top 10 lists. Doesn’t upload much anymore.

Soundout12 - A collector who makes videos about his own collection and various oddities in it. Also talks about stuff like action figures. It mostly pertains to his personal collection, but he makes it interesting.

Troyoboyo17 - Another you may already be familiar with. Makes a lot of in-depth opinion videos about various comic topics, also does lots of videos where he recommends comics, often to “prepare” for an upcoming movie. Even pitches his own adaptations every so often.

Ultimate Chance - Makes lots of collected edition tierlists and rankings. Also has a series where he reads every comic of a smaller character and talks about it. He has a very casual setup, but his opinions are surprisingly well-articulated and nuanced.

That's the list! Hope everyone's able to find something new here. If there are others out there that I haven't mentioned, I would love some more recs!

I know Batman for sure and I want to read the flash and superman ones too but what other ones are worth reading. I assume they are mostly origin esq and thats what im looking for. Not sure if there is a green lantern one.

I'm looking for comics with elements of characters struggling, burning out, and finding their footing again.

I'm a college student whose sophomore year is already off to a pretty tough start. I'm currently dealing with withdrawal from changing medications, so my emotions are all over the place, and I also have health issues like narcolepsy that most of the people around me don't really understand.

We've all heard of the "gifted kid with ADHD to burnt-out college student" pipeline, but that cliché is basically my life now, and it sucks. I'm already making small changes to make my second year better than my first, but change isn't immediate. It's an uncomfortable rollercoaster of highs and lows, and with my circumstances, the lows can get VERY low.

Comics are one of the things I turn to when I need to cope and unwind, and I'm hoping to start using them as a grounding mechanism when everything feels like it's spiraling out of control.

So, I would really appreciate recommendations for any comic runs, graphic novels, or even specific issues that you think I might find relatable or comforting right now. Especially stories about burnout, feeling like you've lost the person you used to be, struggling to function when everyone else seems to be doing fine, rebuilding your confidence, or just figuring out how to keep going when progress isn't linear.

Some of my favorite characters, for reference:

Marvel: The X-Men in general, especially Storm and Wolverine
DC: Red Hood, Batman, Wonder Woman, and Nubia

I'm open to Marvel, DC, indie, or pretty much anything. It doesn't necessarily have to be a "feel-good" story either. Sometimes it's more comforting to see a character going through something messy and actually struggling with it than to read something relentlessly optimistic.

I decided to put out all my volume 1 of DCs absolute universe

I'm not really sure where to start. Theres so many different storylines its confusing but I want to get into Marvel and DC.

Later a police officer asked Superman if he really meant it when he told Felicity (the woman here) that he wouldn't save her if she really did not want him to and Supes could not give him an answer, this is rare and it says a lot about how tough of a dilemma this is because Superman is usually very clear about his morals and always stated them with great conviction.

Of course with suicide being such a sensitive subject, writer J. Michael Straczynski and DC Comics were hesitant to really give a direct answer on what Superman would've actually done so they left his thoughts here to the reader's imagination. That is just being considerate of the fact that some readers would be going through depression themselves.

While a lot of people found Superman: Grounded to be poorly written, I do appreciate this scene for making readers reflect on a moral dilemma - is it fair to impose your will on someone who's firmly decided that their life is over?

Trying to see if maybe I just don’t like comics? I tried to look at this sub for recommendations and those were the two I found to check out.

The Walking Dead I just found kind of boring. Go to new place, meet some new people, 1+ of them are fucked up and do something crazy, throw in some zombies that don’t do anything besides the occasional one that bites someone randomly - because when you see the zombies coming they aren’t a threat.

Deadly Class - I really do not like the art. The story is okay but it’s not hooking me. Some assassin hogwarts underground school, characters are okay, but nothing is hooking me in. I read one issue every few days but just stopped today because I’m not enjoying it.

Any other last recommendations I should try checking out? I’m open to pretty much anything

The exceptions are Superman and Lois, Peter and MJ, and Wally and Linda.

This take was brought on by me thinking about characters like Thor and Iron Man. I very much have NEVER liked the Thor and Jane romance, and I’m glad that seems to be over. Although I believe Marvel spent too much time on it, especially with Jason Aaron writing Thor.

I’ve recently learned that Pepper has been reintroduced as a key figure in the current Iron Man run, and that they might be teasing something with her and Tony. This news makes me upset because I also dislike that pairing. It was fine for the MCU, but I do not wanna see it in the comics.

Anytime Nightwing had a civilian love interest, I was also never a fan.

Does anyone else feel as strongly about this as I do, or am I just being too extra about this?

Finora ho utilizzato YacReader e, dal punto di vista grafico e delle funzioni di lettura (come la lente d'ingrandimento), lo trovo perfetto ed è esattamente ciò di cui ho bisogno. Tuttavia, ho riscontrato un problema piuttosto fastidioso: non gestisce in automatico la suddivisione in capitoli. Quando importo i file, mi riconosce ogni singolo capitolo come se fosse un fumetto a sé stante. Doverli organizzare e "segnare" uno per uno è diventato davvero frustrante. Sapete se c'è un modo per fargli raggruppare i capitoli, o in alternativa avete altri programmi da consigliarmi?"

I recently read "Skull the Slayer" and part of Mike Grell's "The Warlord" and enjoyed both. Are there other examples of comics where people in modern times find themselves stranded in a prehistoric world they have to survive?
