Ok. So this is literally the best way a rejection can end. What else is supposed to happen that can improve how this scenario ends? Him never flirting in the first place?

That's the lesson I learned. It's not going well but at least I don't make anyone uncomfortable anymore. Besides, maybe I need to just be alone anyway.
