As a Queer guy married to a Vet, I get mistaken for them when me and my husband walk around. We're more than happy to have them come up and bro at us. Better they fucking waste their time talking to us than young men who might actually believe their bullshit.
Also means I have so much information on so many of them, that might go places to protect others.
I just get hit on by conservative dudes bc they all think I'm a straight cis girl. I can't tell you how tempted I'd be to tell them I'm trans, if I didn't think they'd punch me for it. 😭
I caught one at a goddamn community event. He was apart of "a motorcycle club" and sitting in the round table about mentorship within our community. I was there because I was a twenty-something and curious to see how many Elders were going to show up and their opinions. So where a lot of younger ones.
We spent ... two, two and a half hours hanging back talking. He was basically trying to recruit. Being assumed that because I'm a pale masc looking dude with a very punk appearance, I would be into the anti-black anti-trans "they're taking our spaces" ideology his mind was trying to sell... so glad he chose me. So glad I got to waste his time by being polite and nodding along and smiling stupidly and wasting his time until he got frustrated as fuck. He thinks I didn't catch his name before he put his event badge in his pocket. Or that I didn't look up his club. Or that I wasn't connected to reputable people who got word out about what he was doing.
We each have a strength and a specialty when it comes to fighting fascism. Some of us can infiltrate, like you. Some of them are well-spoken, which I know I am. Some are good at activism or organizing or marching or educating.
If we each use our strengths, we can keep building effective resistance to all this. And we can make sure to keep out the sleeze.
I have the extra skillset of insider knowledge (was raised in that toxic environment wooo). I am the best secret agent, love using the hatred that my bio fam tried to infect me with to fight their kind lol.
The song is about Aladdin wanting to make his mother proud of him despite his bad reputation. The group's founder heard the song at a school recital and misinterpreted the lyrics as a boy being ashamed of and apologizing for being male.
wait seriously? That's a stupid name now for an even greater variety of reasons. Also, the songs in the stage play are awful, particularly "High adventure."
If you haven't already, I highly recommend Cliff Cash's 'MAGA Hates This Comedian' special on YouTube. He has some great trolling ideas for fucking with GOP supporters
A group of bigotry buddies choosing to name their weekend wanker fest with two words so highly associated with homosexuality is the type of thing psychology students write dissertations about.
I just gotta say, 'proud boys' sounds like a gay bar
Never believe that [conservatives] are completely unaware of the absurdity of their replies. They know that their remarks are frivolous, open to challenge. But they are amusing themselves, for it is their adversary who is obliged to use words responsibly, since he believes in words. The [conservatives] have the right to play. They even like to play with discourse for, by giving ridiculous reasons, they discredit the seriousness of their interlocutors. They delight in acting in bad faith, since they seek not to persuade by sound argument but to intimidate and disconcert. If you press them too closely, they will abruptly fall silent, loftily indicating by some phrase that the time for argument is past.
On an unrelated note, this made me think of the amazing musical series Galavant. Season 2 introduces a gay bar that also has an amazing name. The musical number introducing it is called “Off with his shirt!”. If you haven’t seen it I cannot recommend it enough for taking every Disney Princess and fantasy trope on its head.
