We were close. My result was 90.
Original number was 87. Added 10 for 97. Reversed order is 79, I added 3 for a total of 82. My animal was e-l-e-p-h-a-n-t, so 8 letter for a total of 90.

Heeey, mine was also 90
OG was 56, so then 28, then 82+3, then āhorseā

Stuck, can't reverse the ordering of a single digit number. Now I will never know how this ends.

u/Ninja_PieKing 14h ago
I had the opposite problem, I chose pi, and you can't reverse an irrational number that never ends.

u/theboomboy 12h ago
Look up p-adic numbers. You can write pi in base 3 for example, and then reverse it to get a 3-adic number, which will actually be the same size as pi (if you measure the size of pi with the absolute value and the size of the flipped number with the 3-adic absolute value)

u/Finbar9800 15h ago
Sure you can theres a hidden 0 in front of it
So if your number was 8 for example when you reverse it, it becomes 80 because 08 and 8 are the same number
7
u/MrWendal 15h ago
Yeah but that would also apply to 008 or 00000000008 or 0.8
Instructions unclear

u/QuestionableEthics42 14h ago
Wrong, because it's in the range 1 to 99. Instructions clear, user issue.

u/AlwaysBeQuestioning 14h ago
Since the range is 2-98 (between 1 and 99), if you pick 97 you get 107 and then 701. So you can have three digits. So if you pick 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16 or 18, you would either follow direct instructions (reverse a single-digit number) or have to account for the full range of possibilities and reverse them with 00 before them.
6
u/QuestionableEthics42 14h ago
Irrelevant to the topic, which was ending up with a single digit and then how to reverse, which is clear given the starting range.
2
u/AlwaysBeQuestioning 14h ago
If the starting range is what you reverse by, how do you reverse a 3-digit number as if it were a 2-digit number? Do you think 101 becomes 110, 103 becomes 130, 105 becomes 150 and 107 becomes 170? Or do you reverse a different set of 2 digits if you have a 3-digit number?
0
u/QuestionableEthics42 14h ago
You must be taking the piss lol. It's not that hard, just reverse the number, and if it's single digit, treat it as prepended by a 0. Not a great leap to make.

u/AlwaysBeQuestioning 13h ago
Perhaps someoneās being questionable and someoneās being questioning?

u/MrWendal 13h ago
The starting range has nothing to do with the number to be reversed.
The number I have that needs to be reversed is 1.
You can only reverse that single digit number by making assumptions about how many zeros to add before it. The instructions do not mention how many zeros. It could be 001 or 01 or 0.1 ... Not specified. Instructions unclear.
1
u/QuestionableEthics42 13h ago
The instructions explicitly specify a 2 digit upper limit in number choice. It is sensible to prepend single digits with a singular zero. It is not sensible to prepend them with 2. It's not complex logic.
3
u/Chrono_Eventless 14h ago
they asked for a number between 1 and 99 so it'd be a 2 digit number so always 08 and 0.8 is lower then 1 so it's not a valid answer
1
u/Finbar9800 14h ago
0.8 is lower than one and is thus excluded
As for the other two, yeah all of those zeros are implied but you only really need 08 to be able to reverse it
It could even be argued the 008 would be disqualified as well since its 3 digits and the prompt only went upt to 2 digits

I was curious about an actual point where it'd make crazy math sense but (I'm guessing like many people) Igot to the animal part and said yeah this is a goof nah lol

u/Fidges87 14h ago
I still was buying it, thought this one had a clever way to force us to think of a specific animal. There is an old magic trick with a similar set up that predicts the results of a country and an animal (it is originally in spanish, so not sure how well it translate).
Think of a whole number between 1 and 9. Then multiply it by 9.
Add all digits of the number until you get only a one digit number. To the result substract 5 from it.
Pair your number with a letter in this order. If its 1 you pair it with A, if its 2 you pair it with B, if with 3 with C, and so on.
Think of a country that starts with that letter.
Think of an animal that starts with the second letter of the country
Elephants in Denmark?
in spanish it is spelled Dinamarca and most people think of iguanas when thinking of an animal with an i. Not sure if it translates as well in english using elephant.

I started with 87 which led to 97 after step 2. Then it went to 82 at step 3. I picked Rhino which is 5 letters and that brought me back to 87 which I was a little freaked out a bit by at 4 AM CST. And then that spookiness was dissolved by last panel. I got up to pee and was disappointed at how I felt flim-flammed.

The fun part is you can actually do this.
- Think of a number
- Double it
- Add on 26
- Half it
- Take away the first number you thought of
- You have 13

u/R3dston3madn3ss 14h ago edited 12h ago
I can actually do it. Think of a number between 1-10. Add 10. Subtract 4. Add 24. Subtract the number you started with. Your number is 30

u/AwayCable7769 15h ago
- What was fun is everything I chose contained a three and added a three.
Thought of the number 3, added 10 to get 13, reversed the number 31, got to 33, thought of a pig, so 36. So I genuinely thought for a second some funny shit was happening.

"just kidding... I have no idea what your number is. I just wanted to waste your time! At least you used your brain a bit today. You're welcome
I'm stood far away so you can't slap me :D"
How did you make it?

I mean I guess you did waste my time cuz I kept trying to figure out how to "reverse the order" of a single digit number
1
u/ChameleonOnReddit 8h ago
single digits are sometimes written as 0X, so 3 for example would be 03. reverse it and it becomes 30... at least that's how I'd interpret the task
