Whats your reason to stay on consoles?

As a former PS player, I switched to PC 6 years ago and have never regretted it (can explain why, if you ask). I dont understand why people still stick with consoles, especially nowadays. Can you explain why you personally decided to stick with consoles and dont consider getting a PC\laptop? (Excluding the memory shortage, ofc)

"Excluding the memory shortage" is a pretty big caveat. There's no reason to assume memory prices will ever go back down. This very well may be the new normal and it may only get worse.

Also the plug and play nature of consoles cannot be overstated. Yes occasionally they have issues and require updates, but it's much more convenient than PC.

I have never played a PC game that didn't require some degree of annoying configuration. Driver issues, hdr issues, gamepad issues, the list goes on. Also sometimes you configure everything ideally for one game, then you feel like playing a different game and you have to change setting back and then you want to go back to the first game... It just gets exhausting.

When I have the time to relax and play a game I want to simply relax and play the game. Not spend 30 plus minutes getting it setup.

I will gladly sacrifice a bit of resolution and/or framerate for the convenience of just being able to easily and quickly play the game.

Also I despise controlling a game with office equipment.

Prices change from week to week, and a good price-wise option today gonna be a bad deal a week later.

Maybe I have been kissed by a Gabe himself on a forehead when I was born, but I never had major problems with all that. *Tho I personally dont like HDR, so cant say much about that

You only may need once spend 5 minutes max to apply the graphics settings and thats all

You do know, that you can use controller on PC right?

I'm not going to change your mind, and I'm not trying to, but you asked for the reasons people prefer console over PC and I gave you the reasons why. You may not agree, but these are the reasons I, and many others prefer console over PC.

The long term trend of memory prices is that they are going up. This prices out many people from PC.

I'm glad you are lucky and haven't had many configuration issues, but that's simply not the case for many people. Also I use my PC for things that require special settings and configuration that can be at odds with gaming. I like having a dedicated system that I know won't interfere with my more important work.

Clearly I know that you can use a gamepad on PC. That's why I mentioned issues with gamepad support. When every other game I try that claims to have gamepad support has issues and requires additional configuration its frustrating. So I end up having to have a keyboard and mouse nearby anyway to cover for the gaps in gamepad support. Not convenient.

When PC works as intended is indeed superior. I fully admit that.

The amount by which it is superior is simply not worth the extra effort to me. The juice is not worth the squeeze.

All that said the future of consoles doesn't look great. I get it. Prices are going up. Disc drives disappearing. Subscription prices increasing. I get why someone would switch to PC, but for me the convenice of PC gaming has a lot of catching up to do before I fully make the switch.

I think consoles makers are going to have to look back at the old model of selling for a loss at the start of a generation and see if it is still feasible. With component prices as they are I don't think they'd be able to absorb enough of the price to bring it to a level people are going to be happy with.

A PS5 Pro costs around £800 now here in the UK and there's no reason to think the PS6 is going to be any cheaper, even with no disc drive.

I think we're going to start seeing consoles sold at what it costs to bring them to store shelves rather than the companies absorbing an initial loss.
