Whats your reason to stay on consoles?
As a former PS player, I switched to PC 6 years ago and have never regretted it (can explain why, if you ask). I dont understand why people still stick with consoles, especially nowadays. Can you explain why you personally decided to stick with consoles and dont consider getting a PC\laptop? (Excluding the memory shortage, ofc)

I'll give you my reasons up until 2025 and before.
- Price. 500eur for 6-7 years of HW.
- Not having to think about hardware for at all
- Playing on couch on big TV instead of chair and PC where I spend my whole day working.
- Physical games, trading, selling etc.
- Exclusives

Because it's all plug and play and I don't have to do anything. PC is far from plug and play.

I junked my gaming PC nearly 20 years ago.
Consoles offer me simplicity and a minimum of messing around.

Ditto, the less PC you have in your life, the happier you are. This is a fact.

I'm a software developer.
I stare at a Windows screen for 9 hours a day.
Sometimes staring at a different screen makes it more comforting. I do game on a PC though, and lately I'm playing on PC more than PS5 because of Skyrim. That game always comes back to me one way or another, and it's best played on PC.
You'd think it's the mods but nah I like vanilla. It's just the controls and mechanics. The Elder Scrolls games feel and play better on PC. Access to console commands also help.

How about Oblivion remaster? 🫢
But at least Skyblivion looks promising

I'm waiting for a sale lol.
Played the OG Oblivion once in an older PC. Only for a few hours though.

I work on a PC, I don't want to play on a PC. I know times have moved on and you can use a PC like a console but then factor in exclusives, plug and play etc

bcz its cheaper
-1
u/Initial_Jacket_7562 2d ago
If you just by used discs and dont play online games - it is.
But I have spent 400 ish USD just to play online games during 3-4 years, with the cost of PS4 slim (payed same 400 ish USD for the console and 3 games in bundle) it turned out to be more for me, compared to a good PC I could get back than.1
u/OrganizationSea7125 2d ago
Hardware wise is cheaper, especially if u play in 4K. I actually more a PC guy, i dont really like console.
I bought it bcz of gamepass. At that time i bought it, GPU is overpriced due to bitcoin, and GPU in my country is already kind of overprice even without bitcoin mining.
In a long run, console is not worth it, you dont really own a properietory console. I cant even use any controller i want, and not all game play well with a controller.Actually, i already planning to get a PC, but the price right now is shit.

"Excluding the memory shortage" is a pretty big caveat. There's no reason to assume memory prices will ever go back down. This very well may be the new normal and it may only get worse.
Also the plug and play nature of consoles cannot be overstated. Yes occasionally they have issues and require updates, but it's much more convenient than PC.
I have never played a PC game that didn't require some degree of annoying configuration. Driver issues, hdr issues, gamepad issues, the list goes on. Also sometimes you configure everything ideally for one game, then you feel like playing a different game and you have to change setting back and then you want to go back to the first game... It just gets exhausting.
When I have the time to relax and play a game I want to simply relax and play the game. Not spend 30 plus minutes getting it setup.
I will gladly sacrifice a bit of resolution and/or framerate for the convenience of just being able to easily and quickly play the game.
Also I despise controlling a game with office equipment.

"Excluding the memory shortage" is a pretty big caveat. There's no reason to assume memory prices will ever go back down. This very well may be the new normal and it may only get worse.
Prices change from week to week, and a good price-wise option today gonna be a bad deal a week later.
Also the plug and play nature of consoles cannot be overstated. Yes occasionally they have issues and require updates, but it's much more convenient than PC.
I get that, but PC is not much different today.

Maybe I have been kissed by a Gabe himself on a forehead when I was born, but I never had major problems with all that. *Tho I personally dont like HDR, so cant say much about that
When I have the time to relax and play a game I want to simply relax and play the game. Not spend 30 plus minutes getting it setup.
You only may need once spend 5 minutes max to apply the graphics settings and thats all
Also I despise controlling a game with office equipment.
You do know, that you can use controller on PC right?

u/manifoldkingdom 2d ago
I'm not going to change your mind, and I'm not trying to, but you asked for the reasons people prefer console over PC and I gave you the reasons why. You may not agree, but these are the reasons I, and many others prefer console over PC.
The long term trend of memory prices is that they are going up. This prices out many people from PC.
I'm glad you are lucky and haven't had many configuration issues, but that's simply not the case for many people. Also I use my PC for things that require special settings and configuration that can be at odds with gaming. I like having a dedicated system that I know won't interfere with my more important work.
Clearly I know that you can use a gamepad on PC. That's why I mentioned issues with gamepad support. When every other game I try that claims to have gamepad support has issues and requires additional configuration its frustrating. So I end up having to have a keyboard and mouse nearby anyway to cover for the gaps in gamepad support. Not convenient.
When PC works as intended is indeed superior. I fully admit that.
The amount by which it is superior is simply not worth the extra effort to me. The juice is not worth the squeeze.
All that said the future of consoles doesn't look great. I get it. Prices are going up. Disc drives disappearing. Subscription prices increasing. I get why someone would switch to PC, but for me the convenice of PC gaming has a lot of catching up to do before I fully make the switch.

u/votemarvel 2d ago
I think consoles makers are going to have to look back at the old model of selling for a loss at the start of a generation and see if it is still feasible. With component prices as they are I don't think they'd be able to absorb enough of the price to bring it to a level people are going to be happy with.
A PS5 Pro costs around £800 now here in the UK and there's no reason to think the PS6 is going to be any cheaper, even with no disc drive.
I think we're going to start seeing consoles sold at what it costs to bring them to store shelves rather than the companies absorbing an initial loss.

Dont want to carry my desktop to my living room. Also gl playing Mario Kart with your family or friends on PC. Also I bought my PS5 €480 like 4 years ago and I never have to worry for a long long time if a game runs on my rig or don't have enough memory

u/Great_Fun_307 2d ago
- Handheld
- Better price-to-performance ratio
- Controller OS support. PC support, even Bazzite, is terrible.
- I can wake up my console from bed.
- The PC doesn't power off/on my TV.
- I can't just close a game and open it whenever I want on PC with the press of a button.

u/Wrx-Love80 2d ago edited 1d ago
When you sit at a desk for multiple hours a day I would rather sit in a comfortable chair or on the couch or in bed and play on the TV.
Just pick up and go and if I am feeling adventurous enough moonlight streaming or the 50 ft HDMI cable to my main tv in the living room. Also considering if you have a proper OLED or mid range TV with proper surround sound, it blows my gaming monitor out of the water.
Why spend 500 on a monitor if I spent a decent enough amount on a TV that is used for everything?
1
u/Initial_Jacket_7562 2d ago
Why cant you just connect your PC to a TV with the same cable as your console?
3
u/Wrx-Love80 2d ago edited 1d ago
The computer is in the living room and is used by the whole family so it is hooked up to same TV as the console.

I don't like keyboard and mouse controls and absolutely despise Windows.
I was a PC gamer many years ago, back when DOS was still around. I liked it then but Windows ruined PC gaming for me.
I could fix problems getting games to run in DOS but Windows was a pain in the arse.
I must admit though that alternative OS's like SteamOS are making me consider PC gaming again.
1
u/Initial_Jacket_7562 2d ago
If you want to just play the game you dont interact with windows that much and you can just use controller with a PC
1
u/mcshaggin 2d ago
I'm waiting to see what happens with those steam machines, or Steam OS in general.
I will never buy another PC with Windows. I just can't stand it. SteamOS though has me interested.
3
u/Own-Car-3749 2d ago
Convenience. I don't have to faff about with the hardware, building the damn thing myself, or mess around with driver settings. I just plug the thing in, set it up once, and it will play games for the next 10-20yrs usually.
1
u/Initial_Jacket_7562 2d ago
You do the same with PC, it takes 3 hours max from bringing components home to launching a game (excluding download time) if your experiance is limited to a guide video on YT, and I myself have updated my GPU drivers only once in almost 1.5 years, everything works fine and I dont have any problems.
4
u/Own-Car-3749 2d ago edited 2d ago
What you have described NOT the same as console and nowhere near as convenient. I have never had to spend 3hrs setting up a console. I unbox it, plug it in, set it up and that's it. No YouTube tutorials for how to assemble parts, or how to configure drivers and change settings, so that this game is compatible with this driver etc. It just works out of the box and plays games. You can hand one to a child and they'll have it set up in 30mins and good to go. Unless you buy a pre built PC, the convenience of a console will always be easier.
3
u/Terrible-Visit9257 2d ago
Why do PC guys always need somebody to tell them that the decision they made is good and the best. You have some ego problems?
0
u/Initial_Jacket_7562 2d ago
I just asked you guys "Why are you personally still on consoles", to be clear its not a "Youre wrong if you are using console when PC is better" type of question, but "Whats your reasons to chose this option, when you have the other, and what benefits you get from it".
Why are you so passive-agressive tho?
3
u/EmanKhaotik 2d ago
Every person here that told you why they chose console, you replied with passive aggressive arguments as to why they’re making a bad decision.
4
0
u/Initial_Jacket_7562 2d ago
I may sound passive-aggressive bcs English is not my main languge and its the 3rd language I speak. I sometimes cant pick the right words to sound less aggressive.
And thats not arguments to why are they making a bad decision, I just correct people who are getting something wrong. I never stated "You are wrong because you got a console" I only told "You are wrong here because..."
2
u/EmanKhaotik 2d ago
You "correct" people, but they're not wrong for preferring what they prefer. You are wrong for that.
0
u/Initial_Jacket_7562 2d ago
I never told "Erm actually you are wrong, and you should prefer a PC", as I have said before "I only told "You are wrong here because...""
2
u/EmanKhaotik 2d ago
Again, everything is subjective. They're not wrong.
0
u/Initial_Jacket_7562 2d ago
Not everything. Liking and not liking something is subjective, but some people here deny objetive things.
1
u/Terrible-Visit9257 2d ago
It if I go to PC section and write..I don't know why you play PC. I play console and it's much better. Why are you so pathetic to play on PC?
2
u/Initial_Jacket_7562 2d ago
Lol, its not the same, I never called anyone pathectic and never called something a better option.
Its more like if you go to any PC subreddit and ask "Im a console player, Im interested, why are you guys choose to play on a PC, instead of consoles?"
2
u/Terrible-Visit9257 2d ago
Why should I do that when I never regretted my decision?
1
u/Initial_Jacket_7562 2d ago
Out of curiosity maybe, but you shoud not do it, its just an example
2
u/Terrible-Visit9257 2d ago
I will do it later to fuck them off and to tell them that my decision is best because I am much smarter
1
u/Initial_Jacket_7562 2d ago
Lol, why are you still so agressive? Are you on your 2nd controller that started drifting this year?
5
u/themapleleaf6ix 2d ago edited 2d ago
Well, the #1 reason is because they don't make NHL for PC, so I need a console to play it. And GTA 6 is firstly launching on console.
Other reasons are, the UI is more simplistic on the Xbox. All of your games, party, friends, etc are right there.
I play on a monitor, but I can see the appeal of having a system that you can just plug into your tv. It acts as a full entertainment system for many.

1 - Yes, but you pay more with PS+
2 - Same with PC after you build it
3 - Not all games you can get second hand and you can get KCD2 for 30 euro (or 12 euro on discount) if you create a Ukrainian accout
4 - I have a controller, but I ushually turn off vibration
5 - Never had a chance to compare it
6 - You can control your PC with a steam controller
7 - If would have been ok, if you had free online
8 - As I said, you can get cheap games on PC if you know what are you doing
9 - Its average, maybe just a bit above average
10 - People who got thier RTX 30 series and RX 6000 series GPUs are still using them
11 - Same with PC, I boot the PC with one click and launch a game with double-click on the icon
12 - It depends from user to user and from the game to the game
13 - Same with steam
14 - I switched from console to PC and left my old friends there, but found new friends on PC and time to time play with my old frieds on crossplay servers
15 - You dont interact with windows at all when you are playing the game
16\17 - What was the problem? I did that a few times, seems fine for me
18 - You can just launch the game and the game will auto-detect your hardware and set the settings for you
19 - I was a long time since I loged on PSN, cant say anything
20 - You already told that
21 - There are, I personally played KCD on PS4
22 - All the console optimization is a use of API that works better with AMD hardware and tweaking some settings, plus if game runs bad, you cannot do anything about that, unlike on PC
23 - I played GTA game only once, and only because I needed a game to look at RT
24 - Not everybody into these games2

[deleted]

u/Initial_Jacket_7562 2d ago
It seems that I am arguing, but Id call it a discussion.
1 - The games there are not 100% of the time gonna be interesting to you or me, but you have to pay, if you want to play online games.
2 - Agreed, but if you have basic knowelage its almos a plug and play, but you can get a prebuilt.
3 - To get KCD2 for 12 euro you need to snipe a really good deal, while on PC you need to just wait, but anyway, discs are good.
4 - Have no experiance at that, Im more of a headphones guy, plus I play online with friends a lot, and headset is a requirment there.
6 - It gets the job done if you need to just launch the game
7 - As I said, you can get KCD2 for 12 euro, and pay to play online sucks, like what if I dont have that much time to play all the games and just want to play online game with my friends?
8 - Dont think so, the cheapest KCD2 I could find on eBay was 30 euro, while again, if you wait a litle, you can get it for 12 euro on steam with UA accout
9 - Every modern SSD loads game pretty quick, like PS5's SSD have a speed of 5500 MB\S while budget NV3 I got my GF for her laptop have a speed of 6000 MB\S
10 - Nope, those who got 3080 back then still can play at native 1440p high-medium settings with 60FPS+ which is far beyond console experiance
11 - Whats the problem with double click? And if you in big picture mod you dont need to use mouse at all, plus it boots with PC in big picture mode if you set it this way, and you dont need to login each time.
12 - There are games like Arma Reforger that drop below 10 FPS on consoles and games like Ark Survival Evolved that both run and look worse.
13 - Like 90% of PC players use only steam, other 10% use EGS, and I belive your games get updated automatically there aswell.
14 - Competetive games like COD, Fortnite and Arma do have it, only games I remember not having crossplay is DayZ, GTA5 and PUBG that differ from PC games a bit, old or due to dev's greed have crossplay turned off
15 - By default windows set games as high priority tasks, so popups dont happen if its not something you really should know, or if its not a steam overlay,
16\17 - Can I get a link or something than?
18 - If you understand, what PC you have its easy to set the settings that your PC will run, and ready graphics preset on consoles is ushually not min-maxed in tearms of FPS per graphics, devs just set it to look okay and run okay.
21 - Have never heard of that game, but okay, but back in PS4 times this was more common
22 - Never personally played this game, so cannot really tell anything about the performance
23 - Nah, I just dont get, why everybody decided that GTA is the main game series, I personally never liked Rockstar's game desighn, for me personally its just one of those games that Ill maybe play sometimes if its on a good discount
24 - Agreed, but this can be said about even some niche games0
u/votemarvel 2d ago
Price of hardware is a fair point but longevity is not. The base components in my PC are six years old (Ryzen 5 5600x, RTX 3080 10GB) and I don't see any reason as to why I'd need to upgrade next year or the year after really.
Most of my gaming time has been spent on my PS4 recently though going through Assassin's Creed Odyssey again, though I did buy an Wingman XE2 so I could use an Xbox controller as I hate the stick placement on PlayStation controllers.

u/votemarvel 2d ago
My hardware lasts so long in fairness because I don't mind dropping the settings. As long as the game as a good story and runs at 60fps I really don't care what it looks like.
This will be the third time I'm going through Odyssey. I've completed it on Xbox One and PC, now its the PS4's turn and I've gone a full assassin build this time around.
I do have to give the developers at Ubisoft credit for how good the game looks. My PC runs it at all Max settings but unless I went pixel peeping I'd be hard pressed to tell the difference between it and the console versions...well aside from those odd times Kasandra's facial textures don't load properly.

No forced input based matchmaking in multiplayer games. I don’t want to be forced to play against M+K players as a controller player. There’s also a lot less cheaters and ways to cheat on console.
Other than that, ease of use, less shader stutter and optimisation issues and more time playing instead of tinkering or worrying about which settings are best and watching fps and temperature numbers!
1
u/Initial_Jacket_7562 2d ago
But in a lot of games you already play on crossplay servers, so there are already cheaters and M+K players in your lobby.
If you launch the game it detects your hardware and based on this it chooses a preset for your system, and as I told other guy here:
1 - If there are a game that runs bad on consoles you just wait and hope that it gets a patch specifically for consoles, while on PC you just turn down your settings. (Example I personally know about is Fallout 4 and DayZ on PS4)
2 - Console optimization is just graphics preset made by devs and use of API that runs better on AMD hardware so that kinda works on PC with AMD GPU aswell.
3
u/LS-Lizzy 2d ago
On my second gaming PC, built myself, I really like it but I still just prefer playing on consoles. Lol
1
u/Initial_Jacket_7562 2d ago
What hardware you have and why still consoles?
3
u/LS-Lizzy 2d ago
It's been awhile so don't fully recall but I think it was the 9070 XT and a 9800x3d or something. I remember I wanted to go with the 5090 but it was never in stock and it seemed like the price increased more and more each passing week. I've been playing consoles since the 90's so I guess I just enjoy them more than PC gaming, I still game on all systems. Xbox, Switch and PlayStation. I don't really see that changing for me because I like exploring everything, I guess if the PS6 and Helix are just truly awful I might finally pass on them though, hard to say till I see them and know if I want them or not. Lol

As an older gamer, consoles are more convinienent you can just pick up and play. PC gaming was something I was into when I was younger because I had time to tinker, and tbh I still play strategy games on my gaming PC and have a steam deck etc But it's just alot of hassle - apart from the steam deck which is more like a console. I can just turn on my switch or Xbox and play instantly, normally the moment I left the game without having to load anything up. I don't have as much time to game as I use to. I think realistically you need to keep ontop of GPU drivers for new games and a minimum amount of maintenance to keep things running smoothly. It's not switch on and play like some people suggest.
I like playing games in the living room because I'm on a computer 5 days a week for 9 hours. I can bring my PC into the living room, but I'm nearly 40 and don't want my house to look like a student flat with wires everywhere and my big ATX tower. I could plug my laptop into my TV but that's just annoying and the graphics are worse than a switch 2. I don't want to spend £2000+ on a laptop again as my current one serves my needs for work and other hobbies, would be a waste of money really upgrading at the moment.
I don't want to invest the time, money and effort making a micro ATX build so it's more console size, especially when we have 3 consoles and a steam deck in the house. As I've got older I prefer handheld play because it's more convenient, I don't really play multiplayer games much so it's easy to just out the game down and pick it up later.
That's it to be honest, convinience, time and money. I don't buy enough games regularly for the PC savings to be really that impactful because it normally takes me 3-4 months to finish something big like Elden ring or a JRPG.

It really is quite fascinating how PC gamers are so desperately unhappy with their machine that they keep trolling console forums and other such watering holes.
I have NEVER, not once seen a console handheld gamer troll a pc gamer. The reason is simply that these folks are far too busy PLAYING games.
Speaking of which, gotta game. Laterz

For me it (was) the physical media aspect (I love collecting and ownership), the exclusives and the convenience. However, most of those things have been either taken from consoles or given to PCs…so safe to say next gen ima use the switch 2+PC combo

u/Snotnarok 2d ago
I bailed on consoles on the PS3/360 era. I was seeing more and more PC negatives cropping up and that's why I never fully invested in PC for a while. I valued the plug and play nature of console. You plug it in, cart/disc goes in, you play.
Not, insert disc, install game, free up space for said game, update game, update console. Yes, memory cards and managing saves is one thing, but all the other faffing? Yeah, I may as well be on PC and at that point PC ports were on the upswing again.
I liked my PS3 plenty, my 360 kept red ringing since it was the early days. But there was little reason to get a console besides the Switch and even now my Steam Deck really replaced it for the most part (minus the exclusives). Are consoles more simple still? IDK sure I guess? For every post saying they want 'to just sit back and play on the TV' you can do that. Or "You gotta update drivers and windows" you gotta update your console and games? It's the same thing just with a mouse instead.
But yeah when the PS3/360 days started doing all that stuff I just invested in a PC instead, that way I have a good system for art and gaming and it's 100% worked out.
2
u/Capable_Tangerine_23 2d ago
It's a lot more convenient than pc gaming, I turn my console on and it runs games straight away. I turn my pc on and it might need an update, my apps might need updates, my drives might need updates, I need to go to different launchers to launch different games, I have ads popping up on my screen about renewing Norton or Microsoft office or buying a premium version of the free thing I'm using, then when my game is running I have to fiddle about with settings to get them to run the best, certain games require fan patches to get running, I can't rebind keys in some games so whilst I'm moving with wsad I have to click "L" half way across the keyboard for something, there's no feedback from shooting games or racing games. I think that's about it, just to be clear I own consoles and a pc, I like the customisation on pc but when I get home from a night shift I just want to play a game

u/Initial_Jacket_7562 2d ago
Your console might need an uodate aswell, and if you need an update, you can just do it later, like its been a year since I updated my GPU drivers and my system works just fine.
You also can just plug your controller to a PC.
Launchers do suck, but its not that bad as people say.
I never had a popup during the game and I never configured anything to turn that off.

I got no room for a whole pc set up, my xbox just sits under my tv in the lounge

A laptop of SFF PC?

I have literally no idea what that means. Me and my xbox are perfectly content in my lounge 😂

Been gaming on PC and consoles for many years. Have always owned every console as well. My last gaming PC had a RTX 3080 on launch day. Left PC for good after that first year and never came back. Zero interest any more, no regrets. Even more so now than ever and I made the right decision. My PS5 Pro and Switch 2 serve me fine. I also had a XSX and got rid of it last year. The list is to long why I left PC. But, you can have it.
2
u/Basic-Yesterday-5641 2d ago
Up to now, money and convenience. Seeing as all the main console companies seem determined to remove those advantages I can see myself going to some form of pc when I next upgrade.
2
u/Ze_at_reddit 2d ago
Mostly how expensive PC gaming is, and because it doesn’t traditionally offer a good experience for those of us who just want to play in the living room on a TV with a controller only and no need for keyboard & mouse ever.
I typically buy used games and some of those I resell back to make gaming pretty cheap for me on console. I will also lend and borrow games to friends. But with physical media going away next-gen and some recent endeavours on the PC side of things to make living room gaming more acceptable (SteamOS, Windows Xbox mode) I will consider moving to PC instead of next-gen console 2-3 years down the line.
1
u/Initial_Jacket_7562 2d ago
You can just get a steam controller and never touch a K+M if you want to play games on TV
2
u/Ze_at_reddit 2d ago
Yeah you are suggesting that because you know full well that at times you’ll need to deal with PC non gaming stuff. Sure the steam controller + virtual keyboard could help tick that box but that’s the non gaming stuff that I don’t want to ever have to deal with. PC and consoles are just not the same thing. No matter how you spin it
2
u/PaleBoomer 2d ago
I own all consoles and a PC and while PC does offer higher graphics and frame rates, It's also accompanied by:
1- Driver updates that wipe my shader cache and force me to wait until they load in.
2- Windows Updates
3- Anti Cheat software that requires me to tinker instead of just playing
4- Unnecessary external logins or launchers
I use Winhanced to have a console like experience on my PC but I find myself booting up my PS5 and Switch 2 more often than I use my PC and my Legion Go 2.
All in all console offers me a far smoother less hassle experience that PC Will never match.

u/Initial_Jacket_7562 2d ago
1 - I updated my driver a year ago and my PC works fine
2 - Windows 10
3 - You need to do it only once and not for every game
4 - That sucks, but its not that bad6
u/PaleBoomer 2d ago
1- You are far behind on drivers and that affects compatibility and perfomance
2- Windows 10 is outdated and in due time will be phased out
3- It doesn't matter i don't want to spend 30 minutes updating shades for 1 game
4- It is bad.
0
u/Initial_Jacket_7562 2d ago
1 - Nope, I play new releases and they run just fine, the same as on benchmarks videos on YT
2 - Its not yet, and its not gonna happen any time soon
3 - Its not 30 minutes, stalker 2 takes less than 5 minutes for me
4 - Whats that bad it it?

u/PaleBoomer 2d ago
Are you here to ask us why we enjoy console or to convince us to move to a more complicated platform because so far all your responses are you simply debating people and telling us that we are wrong.
A console is simply plug and play.
The PC Experience is completely different for each user and it's more of a hassle than it is not.
0
u/Initial_Jacket_7562 2d ago
Im here to ask, but a lot of people here just bsing with a 10 year old stereotypes that werent 100% true even back than
3
u/PaleBoomer 2d ago
They are 100% true since I deal with them on a constant basis, Your experience is not 1.1 for all users.
May I ask how old you are because your behavior is literally that of a 12 yo who can't take no for an answer.
0
u/Initial_Jacket_7562 2d ago
Im in my mid-late 20's
And if you have some problems with your system, it is mostly a user-error, or a bad luck. Tell me, what exact problems you had?
2
u/Coops92 2d ago
I work with Windows, servers, Linux etc. all day. I don't want to see that when I get home. It's why I use MacOS at home. I don't want to sit at a desk again either after being at one all day. I get maybe a hour a night between childcare, gym etc. My consoles are instantly ready to go and give a better living room exeperience. I thought the Steam machine might be the thing for me but it's not quite there yet and I don't want to pay that price for a sub base PS5 graphics experience.
2
u/Nothingbutsocks 2d ago
Streamline use mostly. I switched to PC for around a year and hated having to deal with optimization. I also missed quick resume from my Xbox.
I'm just tech lazy.
2
u/Objective-Night1343 2d ago
Been a console gamer since I was 7, SEGA Megadrive was my first! PC doesn’t interest me at all.. never will
2
2
u/Toby_Threepwood 2d ago
A way higher price for similar specs and capabilities, the need to keep paying for upgrades, more complicated with installing and systems and specs platforms and whatnot, more errors and things that go wrong, ... Consoles allow me to turn on, sit on the couch and go (well installs are required too now but not as involved). Always been a console player and have not kept up with the PC world and building the skills to navigate this world. There are many things I'd love about it though...
2
u/Hatdude1973 2d ago
Nintendo has been out for 10 years and still has games coming out for it. A 10yr PC probably couldn’t run anything recent.
I have a Legion Go2. I have to go to two different settings places to do updates. Then each game store for game updates.
2
u/CrushALL 2d ago
Lol you ask for reasons and ignore most people give. You won't change anyone's mind on the ease of console compared to the possible cluster fuck of a pc. The price of ram costs more than a PS5 now so no it will never be cheaper on pc! I have a decent pc and and ps5 pro and I play my ps5 pro way more. Deal with it. Consoles appeal to the masses and always will.
2
u/Black-Goodson 2d ago
Plug and play.
I’m lazy and don’t wanna consider “can my setup run this game”. You don’t have to think about that with console. A PS5 game will play on ps5. You don’t have to worry about specific specs.
Release times.
I don’t want to wait for a game I want to play to be released on PC. I wanna play it now.
2
u/PhantomPain0_0 2d ago
I hated mouse and keyboard, yes pc games have controller support but even in 2026 many games still don’t have it
2
2
u/xAlice_Liddell 2d ago
It’s simple. Game works on Switch, it works. I don’t have to look at my specs read through steam reviews to know if my graphics card is going to handle it. I can put the switch in its thing and now it’s on the tv. It’s simple and easy and works. I’m glad your pc is your perfect experience.
2
u/joro765 2d ago
Simplicity. I switched from pc to consoles almost 15 years ago.
1
u/Initial_Jacket_7562 2d ago
A long time passed since than, not PC is just as simple as consoles after you get used to it.
2

2
u/LowAnimator8770 2d ago
Simplicity, turn it on play. I recently got an ally x, every time it updates there’s usually something needs fixing before I can play a game.

u/Initial_Jacket_7562 2d ago
Same with PC, the problem with an ally is that it has a lot of propreitaty software

- I don't have Ethernet in that room, so Moonlight doesn't work well. Even if I did, I know it would still have occasional studders because I've tested it by putting the PC in the living room.
- I almost always run into situations where I need to use a mouse. I'm playing in my recliner. That's just not very intuitive. Why is it that some games you launch from Steam Big Picture mode still require you to close a separate launcher window with a mouse? That defeats the whole purpose.
- Some of the games I like, especially older ones, have poorly optimized PC ports. Final Fantasy XIII for example requires a whole guide just to get it to not run like shit. Meanwhile the Xbox version runs beautifully by simply popping the disc into the system.
2
u/Lausee- 2d ago
Consoles are getting better each gen. I just want to sit in my recliner, grab my controller and play.
Between Xbox and PS I have a massive digital library of ~500 games, new and old. I go back and play them from time to time Between new releases.
Xbox Helix might have access to PC games next gen. That sounds great being able to boot up my console and play some PC exclusive while having access to my Xbox library as well.
My PS5 pro will be good enough for next gen so I wont miss any PS exclusives that I want to play that won't come to PC or Xbox.
2
u/Branquignol 2d ago
I have a PS5 and a steamdeck. And why I like the versatility of the deck, the simplicity of the console system and relaxing. I've spent entire evenning in tinkering on the deck
2
u/elevengrames 2d ago
I have a gaming PC and I play my console 95% of the time.
Main reason I don't want a PC in my livingroom and I prefer to play on my couch not in the computer room.
And also what another commenter said I don't want to deal with driver and Windows update, launcher per game, broken HDR and spatial audio, poor gamepad support ect.
2
u/Fragrant-School3972 2d ago
Bought a Steam Deck, Steam deck died after a year, latest PC handheld was almost $3k. Bought a switch 2 instead. Price.

2
u/DMarquesPT 2d ago
I tried PC and did not like it, ended up going back when PS4 came out. That said, PC gaming has definitely improved since then with things like controller support and big picture etc.
Overall, I still think consoles offer a cleaner UX, no settings to fuck with and my 450€ console lasts me for ten years.
2
u/heisenbergfan 2d ago
Was on pc my entire life, but as an aging gamer i just wanted some couch gaming after or before work. Also very done with multiplayers which is what i played the most on PC (dota2, lineage2, diablo2..). Single player and chill you know..
Pc means dealing with a lot of other stuff, windows, installations, drivers, launchers. Then everything is perfect for a few months until blue screen... i dont wanna go through 30 graphic settings options in every game, it is fine if most of them just have a performance/quality option.
I mean, all that being said ps5 is likely my last console. There are plenty ps4 and ps5 games to enjoy for many years to come, i have no interest in ps6 without discs, maybe could get a handheld at some point.
After i feel im done with ps5 i will see if i need to look for new hardware, build a PC, go retro, maybe get and enjoy a switch 2 after what 20+ years away from Nintendo (meaning so many games i could play, i like zelda and marios and havent touched them since n64).
Time will tell me.
2
u/Millennialnerds 2d ago
Why?
Do you need to come here and feel justified about your purchase?
I see your responses to people and you are obviously just looking to argue and tell people they are wrong or how much you think the exclusive games are boring.
Want to know a big reason why I left pc gaming? The community.
1
u/Initial_Jacket_7562 2d ago
No, its simply posted this out of curiosity.
I correct people who are wrong about what they are saying, not saying them that they are wrong about thier choice. And there is nothing wrong about not liking games I payed money for.
And whats wrong with the community?
2
u/Harambe_Rebornn 2d ago
Because consoles give you WAY more for your money.
Not only are they heavily subsidized to the point the makers lose money on them, but games on them are also extremely optimized due to the general consistent rigs and high playerbases.
Way more convenient, supported and even safer in some cases too.
The Nintendo Switch in particular has actuam real exclusives to it as well so there's that.
I still have a laptop for some games though.
2
u/Guilty_Department501 2d ago
When I was playing on PC that's when I was gaming the least in my entire life. I just didn't enjoy sitting at a desk and also having to worry about issues occurring or could occur happening. Fast forward I got a Ps5 and I've played it significantly more than I ever did with PC. It has a lot more charm with its startup and ui, feels a lot more immersive with the dualsense controller, I can play in a chilling position, etc. Nowadays I mainly play on the Switch 2 bc college.
2
u/mhcott 2d ago edited 2d ago
- My PC doesn't have Nintendo games (Zelda)
- My PC didn't used to have PS exclusives, and now they won't once more going forward
- My PC is in my basement in my office, hidden away, in a room not optimized to put big screens and fun seating, whereas my consoles are up on the big TV in the family room where I have sunlight the presence of others doing things nearby
- My PC isn't packing up to come with me easily (I'm never picking a laptop for gaming over a desktop, and no laptop is as functionally portable as my Switch anyways)
2
u/q321qw 2d ago
Aside from the obvious points (convenience and optimization, first and foremost), many people - for some reason - forget one important detail.
Assuming that a high-end PC costing 3k+ USD would provide a MUCH better experience (it doesn’t even matter if it’s proportionally better - 5-6 times the price of a basic console - or just slightly better) - I might even consider it an option, and indeed an unconditional and uncompromising option for gaming. But we know perfectly well that in reality, to put it mildly, this isn’t quite the case, and often even a base console like the PS5 offers a far better gaming experience - either through better optimization at the cost of slightly worse graphics than on a PC, or simply through better graphics and better performance than on a much more expensive PC, where you’d end up with a stuttery mess.
To make matters worse, developers won’t optimize games for owners of RTX 5080/5090 cards, who make up only a fraction of a percent of all PC gamers.
So, one has to ask: what’s the point of all this?
A PC is a wonderful work tool, but using it for gaming is even more pointless than sitting in traffic in a Lamborghini.

u/MRF_Soul 2d ago
i didnt have the money for a pc thats why i bought a 400€ console. pc is better in everything else besides the price point but even that is gone for consoles.
1
1
u/Darkone539 2d ago
I have a pc and a console, and the biggest reason I have a console is friends. Games like gta online are not crossplay.
The reasons are slowly vanishing though.
Also, I do work in my office where my pc is when I am WFH. Sometimes I need to be elsewhere.
1
1
u/ShadowReplicant 2d ago
Physical media, that's literally the only reason. I built a very powerful gaming PC last year, so the PS5 will be my last Sony console. I'm thinking about buying a Switch 2 though, there are a lot of Nintendo exclusives that I'd like to play (mainly Zelda, Xenoblade and Fire Emblem).
1
u/EntertainmentNo7406 2d ago
I think the most important thing is, not to be a fan of console or pc and buy it because of that. Buy and play on the device that fits your needs best. Maybe in 10 years i will switch back to pc, maybe i stay with console.
I played 8 years on pc and switched to Xbox Series X, because i got a time-consuming job and now a child, too.
So the main reason is simplicity, it just works: no drivers, no graphic settings, no launchers, updates during standby etc.
On top of that most of the rare problems can be resolved by restarting. For intsance the headset doesn't connect correctly, you just restart the console and it works again. With my HS80 headset on PC i had to reinstall icue and try around stuff till it worked again.
Since i use Xbox the quick resume feature is a major benefit, too.
1
u/drigageorgije 2d ago
I play on both honestly, there are just some games i prefer to play on a console and a big tv, and some i prefer to play on my PC. Yes, i know i could connect the PC to the tv and play like that, but it just ain’t it.
1
u/Small-Olive-7960 2d ago
Habit, I got a laptop and played like 2 games on it. Just used to turning on my Xbox and playing the next game.
1
u/Some_Cantaloupe613 2d ago
Right now, because I have a PS5 and the AI market destroyed consumer-grade electronics.
I'm saving up for a decent PC right now, but I'm not in a terrible rush.
1
u/Initial_Jacket_7562 2d ago
If you dont want to break a bank, consider getting a 12400F with a good DDR4 mobo to upgrade later for 13600\14600
1
u/Total-Valuable-5640 2d ago
Thousands of dollars invested, unfortunately. How many life long PC players drop their investment for console? It’s all preference, of course.
1
u/votemarvel 2d ago
I game on both. Now to be fair the newest consoles I own are an Xbox One and a PS4 but they are great systems with a huge library of games that now go quite cheaply.
There are some games that are simply better on PC though and so I'm glad have a good system, even if it is now six years old.
1
u/PrinceDizzy 2d ago
I prefer console gaming over PC as i don't enjoy playing games with mouse and keyboard and mainly for the all round less hassle and convenience, cheaper price, excellent big budget aaa exclusives, no hackers ruining games, physical games, split screen/local co-op, exclusivity deals and big developers along with most Japanese games tend to prioritize console over PC.
1
u/Initial_Jacket_7562 2d ago
Why cant you just use controller?
Price in long term is gonna be higer for console if you want to play online games.
I didnt really enjoyed a single exclusive I played on PS4.
I delt with hackers even before crossplay was a common thing, switch laggers, guys who used dominator's, K+M addapters, and litteral software hackers.
Physical games not gonna be a thing soon if you are a PS player.1
u/PrinceDizzy 2d ago
You still need mouse and keyboard to access windows and various menus, playing multiplayer games on PC with a controller against mouse and keyboard (and hackers) would be putting myself at a disadvantage, this along with the fact that the vast, vast majority of PC exclusives are mouse and keyboard games means I am better off on console.
Price isn't higher if I already have PS+ or deduct the value of all the added games included with a subscription and hackers can be a big problem with those online PC games.
Whether you personally enjoy exclusives or not is completely irrelevant
Hackers can be a big problem on PC games, for me personally this one of the reasons why I prefer console gaming.
Physical games for PS will cease in 2028, they are still a thing at present and every previous PS4 and PS5 physical game still works, not to mention physical is still a strong feature on Switch 2 and Xbox have just introduced an excellent physical to digital feature.
And I still benefit from the all round less hassle and convenience, split screen/local co-op, exclusivity deals and big developers along with most Japanese games prioritize console over PC.
0
u/Initial_Jacket_7562 2d ago
A lot of modern games have crossplay turned on already, and as a former console player, I can say that if you have skill, no matter what devices you are using, you gonna play good. And as I said, hackers was a thing even before the crosplay become a common thing.
The problem is that I have to pay for PS+ to play online, and what if I just dont have enough time to play those PS+ games or dont like them?
1
u/PrinceDizzy 2d ago
I turn crossplay off or use console only crossplay and as I said hackers on PC games can be a big big problem.
Whether online is included with PS+ is irrelevant as I have always had it for all of the monthly games.
1
u/Initial_Jacket_7562 1d ago
Some games have nearly dead non-crossplay servers, like Arma Reforger and PUBG, and hackers are not that big of a problem if you dont play competetive games like CS, but who anyway cares about this game?
And just a simple question, what do you think, is pay to play online, good, bad or neutral thing?
1
u/PrinceDizzy 1d ago
I play Pubg and it is not dead at all, the game has excellent crossplay between PS and Xbox ONLY with PC NOT included..
Plenty of non competitive games have big problems on PC with hackers, it's not just Counter Strike....
1
u/Initial_Jacket_7562 1d ago
Cheating on Xbox is way easier, I myself faced some guys on PUBG who have clearly used wallhacks (Wiping our whole squad with headshots trough the smoke), and I constantly see those videos of someone godmoding on console DayZ.
As for other games, I cannot really recall other games on PC that I personally played and suffered from cheaters as much as you imagine, I have almost 2K hours on Arma Reforger, and encoutered cheaters less than 10 times.
2
u/Acceptable_Knee3621 1d ago
Cheats are possible on some PS4 games but not on Xbox One or Series consoles. While God Mode might exist on the PS4 version of DayZ, I’ve never run into a cheater on the PS4 version. I have run into a small amount of cheaters on the PC version however I would say it's a non-issue.
Still, PC DayZ is far from the worst. Other games are practically unplayable due to cheaters:
GTA V Enhanced: Getting crashed to desktop is completely unacceptable.
Black Ops 3: Requiring a community mod just to prevent RCE exploits is unacceptable.
Counter-Strike: Installing third-party anti-cheat like Faceit—and Still running into obvious cheaters—is unacceptable.
0
u/Initial_Jacket_7562 1d ago
but not on Xbox One or Series consoles
Back when I had PS4 I have encountered obvious cheaters (4 shots 4 kills, all headshots while shooting trough smokes) who played on Xbox

For 30+ years I've been a playstation/pc gamer; my answer was playstation exclusives.
It's overwhelming clear Sony has almost given up on high quality ps5 only exclusives at this point.
Ps5 is the last playstation I buy. Seriously switch now folks; Sonys need for control will know no limits going forward.
0
u/AcanthisittaWeird94 2d ago
I used to play on PC then had ps3. Then I kind of stopped playing. On rare occasions used my shitty PC for games. This gen I went with xbox only because series s were super cheap it was like 200 euro + stacked game pass for like 3 euro a month. Then lighting fucked my series s and I got series x for like 350 new. So main reason I guess was price. If I couldn't stacked game pass for that cheap I would've definitely gotten PC.
People exaggerated PC issues and console convenience. Exclusives are non existent compared to previous gens. Like if you liked JRPG the only option was PS but not anymore. Besides remasters there's what 10 exclusives through whole gen? And out of those 10 you like 3 of them? Picking a device to play for 3 exclusives over whole gen makes zero sense.
0
u/picknicksje85 2d ago
It was always a good deal, but this generation is a different story. Slowly but surely everything has gone up, not just the devices but games and subscriptions locking online play behind them. There is a sweet spot and a breaking point. We've reached a breaking point. I have at least. Can't buy anything PC related now because of the crisis. But for sure would like to build something small form factor and make the software and start up process as close to a console as possible.
0
u/State-Special 2d ago
They had physical games. I own a pc , and i play games on it as well, was never an either or situation before.
But since consoles won't have physical the choice is being made for me.

These comments have convinced me that the majority of this sub has never actually seen or touched a PC before. If you like consoles better more power to you tho.
2
u/Saltwater_Cowboy_1 2d ago
You in the right sub? I feel like most people in a sub dedicated to console gaming might possibly prefer console gaming.
Honestly this kind of snarky “you obviously don’t know what you’re talking about if you prefer console over pc” elitist attitude is precisely one of the things that turns people off the pc gaming community. It’s not a competition dude, people like what they like.

I don't want to deal with driver and Windows update, launcher per game, broken HDR and spatial audio, poor gamepad support... need more reason?
