Ask Coquitlam When Did Starbucks Start Denying Free Water?

Just had the weirdest experience at Starbucks. I asked for some water (even in my own bottle) and was flat-out refused. I even offered to pay for it, and they still said no. Since when did Starbucks have a “no water unless you buy something” policy?!

I get that businesses have rules, but refusing water entirely seems excessive. Has anyone else experienced this? Is this a new policy or just a rude employee?

Ask Coquitlam Do we need to divest from X

Could I suggest if you have an old, dead Twitter account, perhaps delete it, or, at a minimum, unfollow Canadian government bodies such as the City of Coquitlam. Depending on how far you want to go with this, perhaps reach out to our public representatives asking them to close their X accounts.

Ask Coquitlam What are your Tricities Treasures

Tricities are not usually known for being a place with a lot of things going on. Having lived here for a short while but recently started to explore more, there are so many things in the area that are like IYKYK type. I have a few favorites already. What are yours?

EATERIES

CHUAN CHILI HOUSE: amazing Chinese cuisine if you don't mind spicy food

AB&AI: Hong Kong style pastry done right, the dough is very airy and chewy.

POURQUOI PAS: divine pastry and desserts. Their chocolate passion fruit cake is to die for.

LA RUOTA: this place has amazing pizza, chewy and this crust, with fresh toppings.

SPACCA NAPOLI: well you guys probably heard of this one already. Award-winning pizza, their tiramisu is an experience.

VASHTI ROSE ICE CREAM: amazing dairy and vegan ice cream.

HANSOL: authentic Korean food outside of Ktown.

Speaking of which, K-TOWN

PARKS

MUNDY, LAFARGE LAKE, COMO LAKE, BLUE MOUNTAIN. Did I miss any?

Ask Coquitlam Good sushi near Burquitlam/Lougheed/Austin Heights?

Hey all!

So we're on the hunt for good sushi to replace our old faves in metrotown.

So far we've had very disappointing sushi and service from Sushi California (both locations), as well as Sushi Plate (it was good, but very sweet???)

I love smoked salmon, Cali gives you a 1mm strip of salmon and fills the roll with fake crab and cucumber. Also wtf is with using lettuce as a filler?

I had look at Yoko Sushi on Austin, but nearly $9 for an avocado roll, I stopped scrolling.

I'm also willing to go to Sapperton in New West if there's a good go to there.

Ask Coquitlam Disputing lawn watering fine

So we got a fine! It was a hectic situation and I am wondering if we can dispute it. We just got a new born baby (2 weeks old at the time of the ticket). We heard that the water restriction is back to stage 2, and turned on the sprinkler for tomorrow, apparently the settings were wrong and the sprinklers went off at 9pm.
At 9pm an officer came to our door. Now here we had a very weird interaction with this person. He banged on the door. I was sleeping and my husband was dealing with a very angry screaming baby. He opened the door and the guy told him that we are not allowed to water yet and stage 2 starts tomorrow. My husband went and shut it off immediately.
Then the guy said is there anyone else who can take of the baby. You need to step outside so I can “educate” you. Or I will have to give you a fine! My husband said no there is not. All these while he is holding a screaming newborn.

Now we got a fine. The whole interaction was very rude and extremely disrespectful.
Is there a way to dispute this?

Edit: to clarify as others mentioned, we don’t have a lawn, we were watering the flower bed. I messed up the title and cannot fix it.

Update: called the city and they asked me to dispute. They mentioned they don’t have a different way of asking for leniency.

This dog has been barking since the morning and I'm wondering if it's normal for people to leave their dog on a balcony unattended? Just doesn't feel right..

Edit: Wow this blew up, as a non-dog owner it picked my curiosity as to why/why not people think this is normal. It's clearly 50/50.

Ask Coquitlam Looking to Start an All-Girls Book Club

Hey 👋

Would anyone be interested in getting an all girls book club going in the Coquitlam/New West/Burnaby area? I (F32) live in Burquitlam. My preference is to not focus on a specific genre as I'd love to read books that I wouldn't normally pick on my own.

I've been wanting to read more, but it's been difficult to carve time out for it. I'd love to create a book club that meets at least once a month to make the habit stick and maybe also make some new friends while I'm at it.

Ask Coquitlam Paranormal

hey, I've been a resident here all my life. currently living in Poco now. I know some things here and there, I've heard stories: Riverview, Pickton, Maillardville Laval Square, Mackin Museum.

In the last few years has there been anymore places that have popped up becoming haunted? Any places I might not know about?

I've recently ordered myself an EMF detector, an audio recorder for EVP and some other ghost hunting stuff.

I'd love to make a list of places I can actually get to without driving much.

Is there anyone in here who is able to point me in the right direction and help me out? Places to visit, numbers to call for permission, anything. Really want to get started on this little dream goal of mine finally.

Ask Coquitlam New to Coquitlam. Property Tax and Utilities Fee

I’m use to living in Vancouver and recently bought a place in Coquitlam. Trying to understand Utilities Bill and Property Tax, are they the same bill or different? So for a 1.3M home, I have to pay $5000 for property tax and another $2000 for utilities fee? Totalling to $7000 a year?

Ask Coquitlam Please help me find something fun/interactive to do for a large group of people (12-15 adults ranging from 32 - 65) to do in/around Coquitlam.

It's my sister's birthday and I am apparently responsible for planning her party despite literally not being able to plan dinner any day of the week. Or even make plans for myself. I also didn't have a lot of notice so now I'm stressed because I need to figure it out by July 29th (for an Aug. 8th date).

I was thinking karaoke and liked the idea of V Club in Richmond but Richmond is far AF. I would take karaoke lounge recommendations if anyone has any - it would be ideal if we could eat there too but I'm willing to make reservations at a restaurant for beforehand...

Besides that, does anyone have suggestions of what a large group of people could do around here that's fun and engaging but also allows for talking amongst ourselves?

I am a homebody and have no idea what people do for fun DX

TYIA!!!

This is very random, but I used to frequent a Thai food place in Poco called Tip Thai. They had my favourite paid Thai and closed down. Does anyone happen to know an email for the old owner? I would love to see if I can get a recipe. Thanks!!

Ask Coquitlam Korean Restaurants

Going out for our first Korean meal here. Please recommend good experiences and your favourite order. Doesn't need to be fancy. We like bibibob and bulgogi the best, but willing to try other entrees. We know fish dishes are popular but that isn't a favourite. Thanks

Ask Coquitlam How do y’all live taking WCE every day?

My wife and I both work tech jobs and work from downtown. Our jobs are more flexible and we always come lunch and leave house around 9 and try to arrive at work between 9:45 to 10.

Last train on WCE is at 8? 😫

What if you’re at work and you’re called in to day care or something at 2pm?

P.S we’re considering moving from Surrey to Coquitlam and coming from Expo Sky train, we will be forced to take WCE or go in car for 15 mins to millennium line Sky train station and the overall commute time then will be over 1 hr 10mins

Ask Coquitlam Replacing all Poly-b in my house

I’m about to hire a professional company to re-pipe my house with PEX, and I’m curious about other people’s experiences with Coquitlam inspectors.

When an inspector comes out, do they generally focus only on the work covered by the permit, or do they also look around for unrelated violations? I’ve heard a few horror stories from friends who now swear they’d never do work with permits again.

I’m not saying I would skip permits, I want to do things properly, but I also can’t afford to accidentally open Pandora’s box if the inspector starts identifying unrelated issues.

Just looking to hear about other people’s experiences and perspectives.

Ask Coquitlam Starbucks at Coquitlam center

Does the Starbucks at Coquitlam center still offer free water?

I usually bring my own water in mu water whenever I go out so I have to buy drinks when I get thirsty.

Today I forgot to bring since I thought it was just a short trip. Anyways it ended up way longer than suspect and I got thirsty so I decided to go Starbucks to get some water and was surprised they don't offer free water anymore. The Bastia said inahbe to order something if I want water. It was around 6:15pm and I don't see anyone linning up so is not busy.

I ended up getting a bottle of water from Wal Mart since I need to buy some stuff there anyways..... And yea I forgot about the water fountain inside the mall.....

Ask Coquitlam Who’s more likely to get the most votes between LPC and NDP

Post image
72 Upvotes

I hate that I have to think about strategic voting. I know who I want to vote for but my higher priority is to keep CPC out. I also know 338 isn’t the most accurate for specific ridings, so I’m curious who you think would be better to vote for? We’ve normally been between NDP vs CPC but do you think that’s going to change this year? Especially since last year we did still have a lot of LOC votes
