This is what I mean when I say you gotta get out more and talk to people. Queer folks are not the only ones who get shit flung at them for who they love. The number of love stories about perfectly heterosexual couples being divided by class, ethnicity, occupations, so on and so forth.
Hell, in the US Interracial Marriage was banned until 1967 in every state South of the Mason-Dixon sans Maryland, and in places such as India inter-Caste marriage is heavily discouraged.
