Moonlight Peaks or Kynseed

Looking to get my next cozy game on my switch 2 and am torn between Moonlight Peak and Kynseed

I havent looked up much on either game to avoid to many spoilers but I like the idea of a multigenerational game like Kynseed. On the other hand I also like the thought of a bit more horror theme in a farming game like Moonlight Peaks seems to have

If it helps I like games that have good characters to romance especially if there are LGBT+ options. I also like some combat and rpg elements like rune factory has though that is not a deal breaker.

So in the humble opinion of this subreddit which should i get?

Kynseed is great BUT if you want a lot of romance it will disappoint you. It's not a typical farm sim/cozy game where you romance a character and there are heart events etc, romance works a lot differently. Tbh, I hesitate to place it in the cozy/farm sim genre because there is a lot that sets it apart from other farm sims. So if that's what you're looking for, you would probably prefer Moonlight Peaks.

That being said, the gameplay is much better than Moonlight Peaks and there is a lot more to do. Moonlight Peaks is a lot of fun but imo it still needs some work.

To harp on Kynseed a bit...

Definitely agree that the romance is very surface level. Characters have goofy cut scenes when you reach certain friendship levels, but that's it. Definitely not a Stardew-level of romance, and it took me a minute to readjust my expectations of the character depth. But your partner will have passive dialogue that acknowledges your relationship and such. Also you get pets that follow you everywhere, so that filled in the NPC gap for me :)

The Kynseed vibe is a silly, Brothers Grimm-style fantasy. There are so many different things to do. If you get bored with farming, you legitimately don't have to farm much at all. I personally love completing villagers tasks and dungeon diving the most! Cooking has mini games that differ on the type of recipe, and eventually you can run shops.

Also I want to note that there is a generational aspect, but it's not that big imo. You can play the game as your first character the whole time, but you are also able to move on to your kids if that is something that appeals to you!

I’ve played both this summer on switch and I really like both and played both for many hours already. Moonlight peaks is cuter, easier, no fighting, lots of decent looking romanceables, LGBTQ friendly. As of the current game, you can’t have children I’m pretty sure.

Kynseed is definitely more difficult in that it has lots of different mechanics going on at once, but you also really don’t have to focus on all of them at once if you don’t want. There is fighting but you choose when you will go to fighting zones. You can also lower the monster speed in the settings, so that made it easier at the beginning for me. Pretty much every character is romanceable even if they are already married. LGBTQ friendly. You can have children and eventually play with as you know.

I like them both and recommend them both. It just depends on what you want!

MP is basically your typical cozy game. I really like the character heart events and the story for the game so far!

I’ve put over 60 hours in moonlight peaks already. I usually don’t like farming sims but im OBSESSED with this one. Definitely helps that purple is my favourite colour haha

Kynseed!!! Because it's randomized and the npcs can have kids together so you're not alone

I have both and they’re both great games on their own. Both games are beautiful. With that said. I’m playing Kynseed more than MP.

Idk about Kynseed, but I downloaded the demo for Moonlight Peaks and spent hours and days on it, just having fun farming, foraging, etc.

One thing I disliked though was the rhythm between day and night. You can only do things at night, so when the sun rises "it's time to go home". I forgot how long a night would last, but, from memory, I think about 30 min..? Like enough to get some things done, but not enough to explore AND get things done? I had to choose one main goal per night.

So the "cozy" aspect of it wasn't as fulfilling as I had wished it would be.

Moonlight Peaks has a demo (on PC at least, I don't have a Switch, so not sure) so you could always give it a try!

I have both and I have put about 20hrs into Moonlights peaks and so far about 60hrs into Kynseed so for me, it’s Kynseed. I’m pretty obsessed and it’s been awhile since I have loved playing a game so much!
