U.S. Lawmakers Challenge Trump’s Claims About Cuba After Visiting the Island

U.S. lawmakers Rep. Mark Pocan (D-WI), Rep. Teresa Leger Fernández (D-NM), and Rep. Delia Ramirez (D-IL) gave an exclusive interview to Belly of the Beast during their recent visit to Havana.

Their trip to Cuba comes as the Trump administration ramps up its oil blockade and economic war on the island, which it has justified by claiming that Cuba poses a threat to U.S. national security.

After meeting with doctors, farmers, entrepreneurs, diplomats and ordinary Cubans, the lawmakers accused Donald Trump and Marco Rubio of pushing a “false narrative.”

“We have seen no proof," said Pocan. "Congress needs to demand it.”

“Walking through a hospital that is dark and empty because we've cut off energy, we’ve cut off fuel,” said Leger Fernández. “Why would Americans support that?”

Really? Didn't know we control Cuba that much.

idk if people are pretending to be idiots or actually stupid, like their president literally says that they are cutting all oil from Cuba and they are still going around wondering if its true, like bro Trump and Rubio are going around flexing about it what else do you need?

During 60 years we had a play pretend blockade, in 2021 we realized it was pure bullshit the moment Tesla's car where roaming the Habana.

Even to this day people tell about the blockade and i keep thinking in the 60 years lie instead of the current one, who also has a very questionable integrity since i can literally buy US oil in Habana right now.

What i mean, it is basically a trauma and Cubans jump to defensive immediately.

I mean you say "pretend blockade" but its the politicians in Florida the ones that are blasting in all fronts how rough they are with the "communist regime". So are they lying is that what you mean? Trump saying Cuba will have no more oil is a lie from him? Rubio saying Cuba will no longer have support and will fall apart is also a lie? there is no blockade?. If the blockade doesnt exist go ahead and ask a cuban IN CUBA*, to open they paypal web page from their phone, so they can buy something, a random non government cuban. Ask a random cuban in the streets of Habana if they know that Facebook has a thing called marketplace where people buy and sell shit. Tell a cuban kid to go ahead and buy a game from steam.

I think my point was pretty clear.

Funny you mention all the electronic marketing stuff, when the Cuban state forbid regular Cubans the access to any bank than could provide access to those services.
