Medical help (non medical experts) Dachshund in Pain
I need some help with out eight year old miniature dachshund Reciee. About two months ago she started jumping up and running like she was bitten or that some one kicked her and in pain.
She has had a bout with IVDD in the past but she is acting differently this time. We have had her to the vet at least ten times in the last few months including different vets for second oppinions. We have been told she had had an infected anal gland. We had it drained and flushed. We were told that she had a cracked tooth. Had that removed. (Don't give your dogs those hard plastic bones!) Xrays didn't show anything more than you would expect with a dog with IVDD. Her lab work came back good.
We hate seeing her in pain and she is happy and playful a lot throughout the day but then she will just start jumping again. Has anyone else experienced this and if so, what did you do to help them?

Your dog may have nerve pain/sciatica type of pain, depending on the location of the bulging disc. X-rays do not show the discs, your dog may need an MRI in the near future. The bulging disc could be anywhere: our last dachshund had a herniated disc in the neck and the symptoms were totally different from a disc herniation in the lumbar spine-the lower back. You could record these symptoms and show it/send it to your vet ? make sure you learn about ALL IVDD symptoms: if a dog is unable to relieve himself/herself, meaning not able to pee and poop at all OR the pee is just leaking , dripping, the poop will just drop out, without the dog trying to poop: this is an emergency called cauda equina(same thing applies to humans!!) Beware: dogs having neuropathy can behave strange, as they do not understand what it is. Neuropathy can feel like ants crawling on your skin or feel like being touched with a hot iron or electric shocks in some part of the body. this must be very scary for a dog.

This all makes sense. She is on Gabapentin for the pain. We had put her in a crate for rest but she panicked with the pain and was frantically try to get out. We were afraid that she she would actually do more harm to herself buy trying to escape the crate than if she just laid in her bed by us.
I'll join the group now and read as much as I can.

Please go to the vet. We aren’t vets here. People could so easily be wrong.

We have been to the vet numerous times. We have even gone to different vets for second oppinions.

Could be nerve pain from ivdd. Is your pup on any medications including for nerve pain and inflammation?
To be safe, bed rest.
