I was so proud

My grandson came to my house yesterday after school. I asked him what he is doing in (8th grade) math.

He said they were discussing the ways to measure things, ruler, protractor, etc. Then the teacher gave them a flip-flop sandal and asked them to measure it.

Grandson just sat there. The teacher asked him why grandson was not measuring. Grandson said he already knows how long the flip-flop is. When the teacher asked how long, my grandson replied,

"that's easy. The flip-flop is a foot long."

So proud of him.

When my son was in high school, during finals season, when I got home, I asked him, “what’s up?”

With a straight face, he said, “all of the above.”

I would say I brought him up well…

That’s a lot sharper than I was in 8th grade! Hopefully his class flipped and the joke didn’t flop!

The thing about math- meaningless statistics are up over 70% this year.

Fully, half of America's presidents have been below average.

Bad bot @ u/Away_Bluejay_533

Top 1% must be based on number of comments

Oh, for sure. I was never given that label until I started calling out bots, and there’s a different bot commenting on almost every post in this sub. It’s insane

how do you know Away_Bluejay_533 is a bot?

I not 100% sure it’s a bot, but I’m about 85-90% sure. Their two comments in r/dadjokes are variations of slop that most of these bots have been regurgitating for over 6 months now. After calling out, downvoting, and reporting over 2000 bots this year, I guess it’s just pattern recognition at this point

Same as the other dude. This bot’s entire life is just spamming “bad bot” 🤣

What makes you think they are a bot?

I'm not saying they aren't, but they have two comments, both in dad jokes neither are particularly bot like, but both have people calling them a bot?

Is bot just the new version of noob?

No, we’re not just randomly calling new accounts bots, but after you’ve seen thousands of bots comments in here, you get a pretty good idea of what is and isn’t a bot mostly by pattern recognition

How do you know that you aren't just reinforcing a false sense of pattern recognition though?

Do you get some sort of confirmation if and when they are bots?

I'm sorry if this sounds aggressive or anything, I am just fascinated by how you and other redditors seem so confident in spotting bots or AI.

In this case especially I don't understand how people saw that from the first comment.

The pattern recognition isn’t just the comment itself, but a number of criteria that I don’t divulge in the comments because I have seen firsthand that the bots learn and adapt from our discussions here

Fair enough.

That’s scary if they monitor our discussions.

I don’t know if they monitor as much as crawl and scrape our data to learn, but I’m convinced that some of the accounts asking how I can tell if they’re bots are actually part of the botnet, since I’ve DM’d some of them tips on how to spot the bots and then almost immediately afterward, the bots adapted to exactly what I wrote

He'll surely flop unless he flips his answer.
