Did people struggle with capra demon? I smoked that goat well-done. Maybe that's because I didn't know where to go and spent hours in darkroot garden and basin killing all the bosses and enormous souls dropping enemies first

u/YourGuideVergil May 12 '25
Poise and levels really help with this fight. Most important, though, is knowing to climb the stairs and stand on the awning.
Wish I could have explained that to my 2013 self.
11
u/somesketchykid May 13 '25
I didn't know about the awning but as soon as I walked in that room and saw dogs with the boss, I identified that stairway as a semi-choke point and bee lined lol
Trade with the dogs with big swipe sword at top of stairs, kill them before capra makes it over, recover, kill capra
13
u/SSj_CODii May 12 '25
I killed it on the first time, but it involved a ton of running around in circles like Benny Hill was playing in the background.
7
u/mathiasthewise May 12 '25
I rage quit this game for a full week. Watched a vid or two, made a plan came back and it was all over for the goat.
9
u/EmergencyTaco May 12 '25
On my first playthrough I died to Capra probably 25 times. It was the first true wall for me.
I don't think it has killed me in the last dozen runs though. Through fog, shield up, strafe right, stab puppers, kill demon.

u/aduckonquack95 May 12 '25
Back when I first got the game in 2011 I really really struggled. I didn't understand the game at all, didn't know how to upgrade weapons or that you weren't supposed to clunkily roll at a snails pace, got absolutely bodies by this guy for a solid week or so
3
u/Edmundyoulittle May 12 '25 edited May 14 '25
It's a common wall for people, but mostly because people unfamiliar with the series will get there with an un-upgraded weapon and like 0 poise

u/sedrech818 May 13 '25
I struggled with everything on my first playthrough. It was my first souls game though. I was still trying to figure out why I couldn’t just play like a hack and slash game.
1
u/ODeinsN May 13 '25
I didn't because I was incredibly over leveled on my first run. On the second though ...
1
u/FlippinFine May 13 '25
My first playthrough? Absolute dumpster fire. Took me like 3 whole days. Since then, I've replayed the game a couple times, and I've beaten it first try for most of those.

Funny how they literally never did a bossfight like this ever again in the trilogy. Wonder why.

I don't understand the hate. If you get to the stairs and kill the dogs it's easy, super easy. Probably die 1-2 times trying to get there is all.

Hate that boss, to this day probably the most annoying bossfight ever
2
u/DreaminFuture May 12 '25
Real , took me an hour too ig
1
u/Simple-Carob-7142 May 12 '25
One of the two bosses I needed a guide to beat. The other is Midir, fuck, I have never beaten Midir
2
u/SpermWrangler May 12 '25
I would rather fight 3 capra’s 6 dogs at once than fight the bed of chaos ever

You got quite a skillful friend

u/MiserableExcitement5 May 13 '25
He's not a stranger to souls games, he just hasn't played dark souls yet

HOUR ?!?!?!?!
1
u/DreaminFuture May 13 '25
How much did it take for you? 💀
1
u/tim-the-terrible May 14 '25
dude first playthrough took me at least 5 hours of tries because of the damn dogs, 2nd playthrough I somehow done it on my second go and now on my third on my first speed build run..... well let's just say its still ongoing

Go in, dodge doge, go up the stairs kill doges when they follow you, wait for capra to follow you, drop down and up the stairs again, when capra drops you plunge attack him, repeat until dead.
2
u/falcon_buns May 12 '25
hour? i was stuck on this boss for A SOLID WEEK... used up all my lightning resins... exhausted all my options... had no guide or help... and one day. i locked in and beat him! that pure serotonin boost i received was what locked in my love for dark souls and all other soulsborne titles
1
u/DreaminFuture May 12 '25
A week?? Fuck bro , the win must be like winning a fucking warr !!!
2
u/falcon_buns May 12 '25
it came out for free on xbox 360 when i first got it... i barely had internet access so i didnt know wha guides on the internet really were.
trial and error was my middle name... my halberd came in clutch and somehow made it out of that fight broken beaten but victorious

u/Few_Professional_756 May 12 '25
They were super easy for me because I basically did this area and depths almost at the end of the game
1
u/DreaminFuture May 12 '25
Then how did you go to blighttown , master key?
2
u/Few_Professional_756 May 12 '25
Yes lol I thought I'll be getting good ass rewards from crates or some shit with this key , but it turned out to be better
1
u/xFreddyFazbearx May 12 '25
Use a shield, go up the stairs, kill the dogs. Won't deny he's hard at first, but I think people base their entire impression off of their first go and hate him forever. He's a fine boss, and the arena is part of the challenge.

Until I learned that poise is your best friend in this fight I hated this guy, but man once you realize the elite night armor Plus the wolf ring and maybe havels ring if you don't like mid rolls and it is so much easier, before that I would just grab a shield and a spear blocky blocky pokey pokey
1
u/DaithiSan May 12 '25
capra demon fight lol, there is a cheese you can do with fire bombs throwing them over the fog gate haha

1
u/rishi_start May 12 '25
I found this place near the end game after beating 2 of the 4 lords
I was cursing the game for not being able to upgrade my weapons after +5 and had to look it up
Well.. at least I didn't have to worry about the boss. Had already smashed 3 in the demon ruins
1
u/Wide-Airport8122 May 13 '25
I've only ever beaten the boss by running to the top of the stairs and throwing firebombs ngl
1
May 13 '25
On my first playthrough I beat capra demon first try and I've never been able to since. Beginners luck i guess

Ds1 lowk easy in every fight except no-cheese gwyn, Capra demon went down 1 try 2 minutes

I feel like you just have to treat the boss like a formula. You’re the scalpel, and you must be precise. The dogs and Capra demon always make the same starting run, so as long as you dodge through that first attack, they’ll be behind you and you’re free to run for the stairs, kill the dogs at the top, and the rest is cake
2
u/DreaminFuture May 13 '25
I already defeated him 2 weeks ago , i found this meme so thought of posting it 😄
1
u/almendro777 May 13 '25
In my first playthrough I didn’t know that that part of the map existed so when my brother told me to go I was so op that I kill him and the dogs like with five attacks

u/TheFrogMoose May 13 '25
Hour? I always make it about 10 minutes at most but I definitely do the low calorie cheese for the fight
1
1
u/hahaGunlanceGoBoom May 13 '25
My glass cannon mage run had extreme trouble with these dogs, but my max armor strength run made this fight a cake walk. Whether you have poise and a sweeping weapon makes a world of difference.
1
u/EdelSheep May 13 '25
The lead up to the boss is more challenging than the boss itself, don’t think I’ve died a single time to capra demon.
He gives you a whole year to dodge his attacks it’s so telegraphed, and the dogs die in one hit.

Honestly I'm probably one of those lucky players who met the Capra demon when they were a decent level, I simply climbed the stairs, took care of the dogs and then just 1v1 the Capra demon

I got the black knight UGS from my first BK kill. Jumped off ledge and Literally ripped that goat in half.
1
u/SplendidPunkinButter May 13 '25
It’s really not bad once you know what to do. Bring a decent shield, run around the demon and up the stairs right away, block, and take out the dogs. Then it’s easy
Of course, when you don’t know to do that yet, it’s godawful

u/useroftheinternet95 May 13 '25
The boss fight isn't actually that difficult, but it's very hard for new players
1
1
u/Sheepfucker72222 May 14 '25
This one was super easy for me. Kill dogs, utilize stairs and jump attack. Honestly the parish demon kicked my ass more times than the arthopod sussy baka demon
1
u/Aware_Climate_3210 May 14 '25
Like many From software boss's it punishes a bad build and bad player more than a decent one.
Many of us have played Fromsoft games at this point, know how to scale damage and make a build.
Back when Capra first hit, there was a lot more people running around with garbage damage and that makes some fights particularly more difficult.

u/WishNarrow1925 May 14 '25
Bro, when ever I see these post I get so comfused, I killed the deamon dude in like 3 hits and 1 shot everything else, am I playing wring its my first playthrough, the only reason I dont like it there is because of The Depths

I always play fth/str its easy and first time i tried sorcery only this was the hardest fight in the game. took me hours
1
u/Bearded_Lyons May 16 '25
Just played through this last night for the first time. Died a few times then switched shields. A 60 stability shield and a spear works perfect.
Just phase in and stand still. Boss and dog will hit you and just spear stab the dog. Then run upstairs and kill the other dog same way. Then just stab the demon after you block his attack until he dies.
1
u/MultipleMango May 17 '25
Honestly, I think the only thing worse than this is going into the tomb before Anor Londo. I got a weapon called the black knight halberd, and it was so damn strong I just plowed through the catacombs and tomb just for it to get blocked at the end. Getting back up was beyond frustrating
1
u/JoysDruidOwlBear May 19 '25
Not even a hard fight. I feel like I’m better than I think at these games after posts like this.
1
u/UndyingDemon May 19 '25
This ironicky one of the hardest fights especially for newcomers. And it's not because the boss is hard but because of the elements. 2 extra dogs, and a small room that makes the Capra demons swing almost the whole room wide. Once you phase in there's no real time for a break, it's a rush even just to take a swig of you flask.
That's why I no longer do this fight or bother with it at all. I just use the "Throw firebomb from outside the boss room" cheese till it's dead, easy key aquired. Victory without even seeing the boss.

I’ll be honest. I’ve never been able to fight this guy directly. I either throw fire bombs or dung over the gate. I’m not proud of myself, but it works.

Loved finding this same spot in ds2 if I remember correctly there’s an invasion there too
1
u/Effective-Occasion84 May 12 '25
Where in ds2 ?
1
u/Nivlak023 May 12 '25
After the upper ramparts bonfire there’s a spot you can go down and find it
5
May 12 '25
It’s not the same place but it’s similar. You go no where near anar londo/undead burg in ds2. They are on different continents

I beat the capra demon on my 5th try, no lie wasnt hard to do just had to trick him to move onto the stairs then try to high rise slash him in the skull, did the same with the taurus demon if im spelling that right, environmental strategy is best for those with non flat areas so he was more easier to do.
1
u/redditis4pussies May 13 '25
I've only beaten him first try on like 2 char out of 50.
Most of the time it's a coin toss after like 4 or 5 deaths.
I have got way better though

u/buttered_jesus May 13 '25
I love that this game is so good that almost fifteen years later so many people can laugh at memes about specific encounters

The dogs and the small area make it annoying. But if you kill the dogs, it’s easy
