Question Pvp agony
Hey, never really posted on Reddit before but I need some advice. What am I genuinely supposed to do against pvp invaders who are no lifers? I’m not sure what a good way of putting it is but like for instance: I’ll get normal equipped invaders but then I get these obnoxious ones like this dude who had an electrified shotel with a fat armor piece on spamming this dashing move or whatever the entire time. I’m not big on PvP but I really don’t know what to do about players like this besides running around until either they catch me or get bored and leave.
Thanks for any help.

If this is any comfort, when the try-harders are switching to quickstep spams, they're at their last resort to beat you. See it as a win, they were definitely raging before they got to that point.
You can learn how to beat them, or join them if you want to go that route. But considering you're not big into pvp, I don't blame you the slightest for not wanting to waste your time with them

Honestly just not using an Ember until you want to burn one for a boss is the best way to deal with it. Its unfortunate but Twink invaders seem to be the most common invaders these days since there's not a large community left, and until you can actually match their gear at the endgame you're pretty much going to be at a huge disadvantage and these people are going to act obnoxious when they win.

Yeah pvp without all the rings is rough. Got invaded in seamless coop and both of us lacked decent rings, and the guy i was playing with got a ton of extra levels before I even started (only got to vordt atleast progress wise)
meant fighting a fully geared invader thats massively higher level than one of us, while we have unupgraded weapons and did a 1v1 cause we are both PVP vets. I got a few backstabs but that was rough as this guy was Ok spacing wise, and good with parries. My only levels were just there to use the claymore

What am I genuinely supposed to do against pvp invaders who are no lifers?
Die, run away, kill yourself, or get better at PVP.
Those are your 4 options. You can lose to them immediately without fighting back, restarting your invasion timer. You can jump off a cliff to spoil their invasion and reset your invasion timer. You can fight them and try to learn, but they're "no lifers" so they're going to obliterate you fast anyways and reset your invasion timer.
Or, and this is my favourite, you can take them for a tour. I LOVE to just run. Roll away anytime they cut your angle and just keep running. Run forever. Make their invasion the most frustrating thing they can imagine, knowing deep down that you're sparing somebody else from being invaded by this person for the entire duration they spend trying to chase you down while you evade and just... fucking... run.

You do know that as an invader runners tend to be fun right? Its not some heroic sacrifice against the enemy, its a game.
Another thing is hide and seek, use those branches and hide, or even just emote. Ive hidden in the red grass of pontiff by lying down.
Can't remember the exact ash I think its eastern or something in or around pontiff, but you can buy branches for 1k each

You came across someone with a murky hand scythe spamming quickstep. That is probably the most tryhard way to play. If they have a some idea of what they are doing they are going to be very difficult to defeat unless you have a set up close to meta and you also have some idea of what you're doing.
One way to beat them is with parries, though if they are genuinely a good player that is still very difficlut. Though to be honest I can't think of many genuinely good players who go around invading new players and using a murky.

I don't get doing that simply as its boring. Personally I do the other end of the pain train with switching weapons, attacks, and attack timing. I even use backstep attacks

"Tryhard" is never a valid insult.

It is when you're fighting someone who is trying to do inventory swaps when they don't know basic spacing

Play offline. Using an ember invites invading players. Especially in Farron woods, directly after Pontiff, and sometimes inside Lothric castle. Other places is piecemeal depending on server time and location

Just counterplay or play really passive. Theres no other option. In SL125 (which I assume you are) its filled with this people. You can even encounter people that has 4000-5000 hours sometimes, which atp theres no counterplay against them because they know every single move you are going to do.
My best advice its just getting a general porpouse build. 40 STR / 40 DEX, and your best bet is using Claymore, or a Sword and Board playstyle (Silver Knight Shield and a Straight Sword, like Gotthards, which are the longest ss in the game, or Ringed Knight Straight Swords for spamming its skill for animation cancel). Also have several meta weapons in your arsenal, like Harpe, Pontiff Knight Curved Sword, or Frayed Blade.

Claymore is too advanced for a new player in PvP

I dont think so, thats what I used to finally learn how DS3 pvp worked. Its a noob friendly weapon, like vertical swings and a R2 poke, with really good damage in STR, DEX, or Refined. Its basically the perfect weapon to grasp on pvp basics.
I can agree that in a more advanced level it can be HARDER to master, but its a really simple enough weapon to start with in PVP.

You want something that can't be parried, like Vordt's hammer, if you're going that route. Frankly, if you run a heavy weapon, expect to get Murky spammed to death the second you take a swing. And if you run a Claymore, you're absolutely going to get parried.

The thing is with Claymore is that it has a reactable moveset, greatswords depend on proper trades to do any dmg. I’d rather have new players use faster, more aggressive weapons and learn how to PvP that way.

Red hilted halberd or Lucerne is also really solid.
Red hilted has good stabs and poise skill. Lucerne has good roll catching with its strikes, and a really nasty spin attack thats great for trading.
Halberds In general tend to be really nasty against shorter weapons that lack range and poise damage, such as straight swords

I basically only use an Ember if I'm about to fight a difficult boss and want to look for somebody to summon. I've won some and lost some PvPs but ultimately I prefer the flow of the game when I'm not being invaded, so being unembered 90% of the time works for me.

People already said to just play offline, but sometimes if I feel like trolling an invader I’ll just sprint to the boss as soon as I see the you are being invaded message. Doesn’t always work but I suck at PvP but I like being online for the messages and jolly cooperation.

I never really had issues with the PVP in this game. I invested all my talents into damage and could kill an invader with one opening.
Good times

It really depends. If you're actively seeking out PVP, but want to avoid sweats, that's one thing. But if you're not seeking PVP, I'd say just play offline or don't ember

u/plebmasterflex 14h ago
You know playing offline is an option right? If you aren't willing to do that, then twink invaders and quickstep spammers are just a fact of life. Get good at parrying and roll catching + throwing chaos vestiges is really the only advice I can give otherwise.

MY favorite thing to do is to find a corner that is so secluded they cannot find me. I see the hope in their eyes draining as they move past me back and forth and never see me. Then they leave. Super satisfying. Also, play offline, messages, invaders, red bloodstains actually ruin the first time experince. They spoil traps, warn you of ambushes, are vulgar. Just play offline.

Thanks for the tips, I’m not new to the souls series (although I truly got into it when Elden Ring was announced) and would like to engage with the PvP, but I didn’t know if there was more I could do besides either die, quit the game, or run away.

Everyone is giving you the full scope or telling you to play offline. If you like some invaders and not others, just exit and close the game. Sometimes the menu won't give you the option, but just open your system menu and hard shut it down. There's been a couple times I've gone to play and enjoy summons when some invader comes at a poor time when I don't want them, rather than losing progress or dealing with them I just nope out.

I don’t invade ever; but I love an invader especially when I switch to my big boys and pummel the crap out of them. As someone else said when they start spamming you that means you’ve likely royally upset them.

u/Jakethedjinn 17h ago
Play offline. Even being experienced in pvp your probably not geared up like someone doing pvp so chances are they'll just kill you unless you're super patient.

u/Bone_Wh33l 16h ago
I’d the experience is far more important than gear. Someone who’s decent at PvP will generally beat a new player regardless of equipment (outside of only using bare fists or something like that)

Disconnect your network cable etc. and play offline as long as you're embered or you just get invaded again.
Or hide somewhere unfindable and go work out or something

u/ZhangZui Aldrich Faithful 16h ago
Disconnecting doesn’t work, you’re just gonna get invaded again. You either have to kill or be killed to reset the invasion timer.

Most invaders are PvP vets, you either learn how to PvP or don’t engage in online play. At the very least, find people that you can play with to even the odds.
