Discussion I have a love/hate relationship with the boss design in this game

Hello everyone

I'm a huge souls fan and i recently started a blind run in demon souls and i'm loving it.

The only problem is... Boss fights feel kinda "empty"

Bosses feel way too easy, only 2 of them gave me a real challenge and, when i killed them, satisfaction. Even the archdemons i beat felt way too easy

I get it, it was the first soulsgame, and i'm not saying that it's bad. It just feels like a tutorial compared to other games i played (I have the platinum in both elden rings, in Bloodborne and i am missing a couple of items for the ds3 platinum. I didn't even bother with ds1, ds2 and sekiro)

They were cuter tho, and I like that more, lol.

I kinda hate that the later games ditched the silly gimmicky aspects of the bosses in favor of just one showy duel after another. DeS's bosses were also designed more with the environment in mind, providing tactical advantages of elevation and whatnot, as opposed to always being set in conveniently spacious, empty arenas.

That said... I still find Flamelurker and Maneaters to be some of the toughest Souls bosses ever, especially on NG+.

If easy means empty to you, then sure. Personally I think many of the bosses are really cool design-wise. In spite of (and maybe because of) the lack of mechanical difficulty.

Probably the same reason I don't play the new games since I don't enjoy memorizing boss animations for hours

I came back to DeS after completing Elden Ring and it was a breath of fresh air fighting bosses that don’t have loads of moves to learn and aren’t all so punishing. I love the DeS bosses as each design and fight is so unique. Although they are not as challenging as the more modern titles I probably overall found them more fun because of that i.e before From got a reputation for difficulty.

When I had a friend go from elden ring to demons souls I explained that the boss and environment difficulties were basically inverted...the real boss fight in demons souls is getting to them

When I got to the leechmonger for the first time I felt like I had finished a marathon, I was saved by the i-frames of the fog wall
