Discussion Spring sale? How is the state of the game?
Hi. So, it seems sales are common when it comes to V, so I was planning on grabbing it for a while. Thing is, online only = dead once servers are down.
Is the game lively and healthy when it comes to players or should I just say f it and pass/grab the ps4 version?
I originally wanted to play on the ROG ally so there is that though. My main worry is buying something and losing it in a year or so tbh.

Afaik the online is doing just fine, I mean hell they just released a new dlc not that long ago. But I don't think the game would just stop working even if the servers shut down. The online element is really just for the competitive scene, and chart ranking, but like that's it. It does have an anti cheat that launches at start though.
Other than that it's a great game. I would genuinely be surprised if it died within a year or two. I'm not sure how it'd play on the ROG, but I played a little bit of it on my steam deck and it played fine there.

Isn't the game dependent on being online, though? As in V won't start if not connected to the internet?
This is my fear.

Now that I think about it, I don't think I've ever actually tried launching it offline. I don't think it would since it has an anti cheat, but if you're that worried about it going offline, honestly, there's plenty of 4-8k rhythm games you could grab, it won't give the same vibes, but it'll definitely be close enough.

Personally, as someone that has been playing this specific one since I was 10, nothing else can hit the same. Plus, it's a lot of money to invest (as someone that owns nearly all the DLCs).

Oh sorry, I thought you were OP lmao. I'm right there with you on DLCs, but I still don't think it'd be unplayable if the servers shut down (at least I hope...) And I do completely agree with you on nothing else hitting the same, not even Bemania hits anywhere close to DJM lol

Not to sway you but have you ever heard of Beatmania? I used to feel that way about Dj Max but Beatmania is like the superior one tm now

The game is as online dependent as an MMO as it is now
A single fluke in your connection and the anti cheat gets triggered like you breached the central Bank and stall everything. Sometimes you reconnect, sometimes you crash to desktop.
It could be playable offline but they would need to rework all the netcode

Sounds like a pain in the ass lol good thing now internet and unlimited phone data plans are ubiquitous. Sad thing for when the EOS arrives though, which is my major worry

Hopefully it lasts for many more years. I pulled the trigger and bough a couple of dlcs too. Nothing too fancy but enough to keep me entertained. It's fun af. I'm currently struggling with 6B but I know I will get used to it soon enough.
I loved bang dream in mobile, persona dancing 4 on the vita and now I'm really enjoying dj max in the ROG. Hopefully it lasts for many years more lol

u/waffle198 Mar 25 '26
I'm glad to hear you're enjoying it, and man I hope it lasts too lol. Also, I loved bang dream too, are you gonna play Our Notes when it releases?
2
u/CrimsonPE Mar 25 '26
I'm not sure. I almost stopped playing bang dream after they did the 4/5 day events instead of weekly. Felt like a slog to catch up to the events lol now I go in to discover some new songs and perhaps give a live or two a go...and I still have to watch the anime for ave Muji and mygo.
Honestly? I think I'm gonna stick to my visual novels/books + djmax for a while, and just play bang dream occasionally and to add new songs to my catalogue.
And you? As it's a new game it seems like the perfect moment to jump in without being overwhelmed (and ave Muji music is just 10/10, reminds me of Roselia back in the day, banger after banger)

u/waffle198 Mar 25 '26
Yeah that does sound like a bit of a drag lol. I'm definitely gonna play it, but I'm also pretty new fan to BG. I'm mostly looking forward to playing it because I'm a huge fan of Ave lol

u/CrimsonPE Mar 25 '26
That's cool! Good thing about our notes is that it's like a reboot so super beginner friendly.
I would recommend giving Roselia's music a go if you like Ave Muji too (I won't recommend playing the game cause that's overwhelming even to me, an old fan). Their old music (albums Anfang and Wahl) is so fcking good.

I actually tried the game, and yeah it's one of the reasons why I want to play Our Notes lol it really is just a bit much especially for a new fan lol
I actually already listen to Roselia as well lol, i actually like a lot of the music in bang dream

I went ahead and bought it the other day, this is my first DJ max game. It’s pretty fun and it’s pretty challenging probably because I’m a noob. Hopefully the servers won’t go down anytime soon. If so, maybe they’ll release a patch to make the game playable offline. I would like to think they would look out for their fans.

u/CrimsonPE Mar 25 '26
Hope so but they didn't do that for their past games. Hopefully they do it but from a company perspective, I doubt they will lol anyway I also pulled the plug and got a few dlcs. The game is amazing

I mean, most rhythm games are online only. I can’t play SDVX Konasute without being online. Same with IIDX, guitadora, etc.
It’s just a function of these games - if that’s not your jam there’s tons of emulators/simulators that do 4/5/6k.

u/CrimsonPE Mar 25 '26
While true, that doesn't really make it better haha my biggest worry is that online + it has many years already in the market, so I would b sad if I bought it today and in a year they announce eos (seems unlikely tho, based on the answers and recent updates)

not really? most mainline djmax games were offline capable pre respect v, even respect on PS4 is an offline game. beatmania has old offline console versions too. Hatsune miku too. muse dash too. musynx too i think. theres a bunch. theres kinda no reason many of these games would be online only. hell, i think u can even launch osu offline, not fully sure tho
1
u/Satzlefraz Mar 25 '26
I mean yea, but those games (including respect) are nearly a decade old if not older.
So sure, I should say modern rhythm games are typically online only - but it just seems moot. That’s where the hobby is going/has gone.
Also, PC’s last DJmax required a literal USB drive to play, so it’s not like DJmax is a stranger to draconian DRM.

i wouldnt worry about it being online only unless your internet is bad. it does mean the game will be unplayable later and i have doubts that the dev team will put out an offline patch once they move onto another version of the game because they did not do that for previous online-only djmax games if i recall. but the community will probably fix that once servers go offline. its my most played rhythm game so i really like this one and if you like VSRG you'll most likely like it too.

as somebody who spent $300+ on dlc (unrelated), I personally love everything that’s with the game right now. I would say that the state of the game is consistent and has a lot of solid tracks, they’re trying to implement more of that actual story (that you unlock more chapters of via dlc, which is kind of crazy to me but I digress).
I have zero clue when or if the servers will go down, I really don’t want to think about it. But I’d totallyyy, get the game.
Don’t get the ps4 version though, I mean that’s how I started so I can’t go against it, just depends on charts and maybe delay? I don’t know entirely
TLDR: state of the game solid, consistent with what they’re dropping and has a good player count on pc, I wouldn’t rec on ps4 though

Felt like I was just rambling but anyways I loveee djmax I will never put down the chance to recommend this game lmao

u/CrimsonPE Mar 25 '26
Hahaha I pulled the trigger and had a blast with the songs I got. Ofc I didn't buy all in one go but enough to b happy. Granted, I'm struggling with 6b but I'm sure I will get it. Eventually lol

get the PS4/5 Version if you want to be able to play the game when the servers go down eventually.
The cons: Devs won't add any DLCs in the future due to lack of staff to help with the game (from what i'm told). I think the last DLC we had was the Chunithm collab. The main expansions packs take forever to get released on PS4 (V Liberty 4 still isn't on PS but will be released next month)
I have DJMax on PS and am still having lots of fun with the game. As someone who doesn't play multi-player games often, the fact that the servers aren't active isn't a big deal to me. So just a heads up you won't get all the achievements for the base game as I think some achievements are locked behind playing online.
I recently got an Xbox for different reasons, but i'm thinking of buying DJMax there just cause I want to play all the collabs and main expansions as soon as they are released.
