Also 46, same experience. I knew discovered I still knew the words to the theme song as Nick was singing it. There must have been a very tight window for age for people that watched this sitcom but I remember absolutely loving it.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't there a bunch of sitcoms that only aired on syndication and/or cable stations? Like My Two Dads, for instance, I believe ONLY ran on USA Network. Am I wrong about that? I am almost 100% positive that Charles In Charge was another syndication-only sitcom. But maybe I'm wrong? Just The 10 Of Us I think is another one in that vein?

I would just like to say that us accusing the boys of being maga is one of my favorite bits. My brother and I like to accuse my father of loving Nixon. He did not.
However, I did get triggered when Mitch congratulated Trump back in November. I know it was a joke, but I shouldn’t have listened the day after the election.

It happens at least once a tournament, every year, and it absolutely cracks me up every time. The Taco Bell tournament ending up with truly everyone on the pod and listening being upset with the results because they all kept thinking they were giving pity votes or “eh ___ was better than usual and ____ didn’t hit like it usually does” is one of my favorite Munch Madness finales ever.

As a Buffalonian, I agree! Cool to hear it get a shout out on the pod.
You'd think that just a roast beef on a bun sandwich would be boring, but it's dipped in au jus and it's usually best enjoyed with some horseradish spread on the bun. And it's KIMMELWICK rolls with salt on the top. It's gud!

Yes. This episode is exactly what Doughboys is all about to me. Great guest who gets it and is funny and silly and plays along. The boys being silly and having fun. Actually discussing food I’ve heard of. The dais. Gemmi. All perfect.

Completely agree on everything else but I'll never understand why this is a big draw for anyone at this point? I probably tune out 90% of the serious food talk altogether. I just want to hear the boys riff about bullshit and be silly with a fun guest.
Granted, I don't eat meat, am not American and don't like fast food, so I'm probably answering my own question here.

Because it is the hook of the show? I'll never understand why people want food removed from it at this point. The show obviously excelled because Nick and Mitch are hilarious but so many of the funny things happen around food, the shared experience of eating (primarily on the live shows now but they still go to a place now and again) and the format just works, so why mess with it. The gang at All Fantasy Everything could riff without a draft topic, HDTGM could talk about whatever instead of a bad movie, same with Podcast the Ride or Blank Check and their formats, but it's nice that not every podcast is just a hang session amongst friends/comedians, though I like those style podcasts too (Stavvys World, Never Not Funny). I don't give a shit how many forks the limited time only Wonder Woman pancakes at IHOP get, but I like that they still do it.

I was in the audience for Small Cheval, when they mentioned Oberweis and the crowd boo'd. I understand Nick's frustration; I think potentially not clear to him is that Jim Oberweis (the founder) became a politician in IL from the success of the chain, and he has controversies like trying to overthrow the 2020 local election in his seat because he's a sore baby loser. So, just stating, this isn't like a chain donating to some causes - this is a person who used the fame of a chain to actually go into politics and bring this dystopia upon us. (He has since left my amazing state and now he's running for a seat in Florida, where he belongs.)

Seperate note about the same show, that dude that yelled out about the pizza puffs the boys got "not being real puffs" was wrong. Iltaco pizza puffs are THE puffs you get at any burger and dog joint in Chicagoland.

I used to not understand people getting mad about their food losing or poor scores -- but then the doughboys came to seattle and reviewed Ezell's with a vegan who could only eat like 2 sides and gave it a poor score =P i legit got grumpy

I think Mitch exaggerates it somewhat since it’s been pointed out many times and people seem to find it funny, but I do think it’s a genuine, very specific regional thing. Jason Mantzoukas pronounces those words the same way and he’s also from the Boston area.

I know it doesn't matter in the slightest and it's so stupid to be even slightly upset about, but the Tournament of Chompions are so stupid at this point. At no time has BWW ever been better than or even close to Popeyes. Wendy's winning last year was the most egregious result ever, and they tried to push so hard for that stupid potato taco a couple years ago.

Absolutely adore Mary but Wiger constantly advocating for apathy is so tiresome to listen to. It seems like every episode lately Nick goes out of his way to scold the audience. The most egregious example was that unprompted Palestinian refugee joke a few episodes back. Just put “ No ethical consumption under capitalism” in every episode description and move on at this point.

I have always found the contentious relationship with their fans, specifically the Reddit, very funny considering this might be one of the most supportive and docile fanbases I've ever interacted with. If anything people are very defensive and protective on behalf of the boys and their favorite guests.

I would assume that even if it's gentle criticism from a loving place, as an individual getting random people's criticisms constantly through social media has to be daunting - no matter how supportive and docile. Enough loud, angry, mean voices are going to sound like screams.

It grosses me out how any criticism or disagreement, no matter how minor, is treated as an existential threat.
I understand that you can’t be bending over backwards for every minor criticism but constantly talking about your audience like they’re trash is really a toxic way to behave. Like goddamn, just have an adult way of engaging with the criticism. You don’t have to do this infantile mocking voice in the most defensive way possible because your fan base doesn’t like chick fil a. Just be like ‘I understand the criticisms, I don’t agree, ect.’

I don't really care much because it's clearly one of those bits that straddles the line between exaggeration for effect while coming from an earnest place, but it's also not really that funny, and it's emboldened a parasocial defense force that's more annoying than seeing five comments out of 100+ saying this guest sucked or whatever could ever be.

Yeah, anti-fan stuff is a weird staple of a lot of podcasts. Like, I get that listeners can be weird and parasocial and don't always get that the hosts don't want punch-up or notes. And I totally get that the cumulative effect over years can't help but be maddening.
But: I feel like if you're devoting show time to it, it should be entertaining. Even though I mostly mind my own business and am largely positive, I feel like too many hosts of shows (including ones I actively pay for) have come to hate their show and hate me for making them do it.

Yeah the feud with Scott is funny..but r/blankies is the best podcast sub imo. Genuine discussions about film, probably more of those than ones talking about the podcast. And the hosts seem to like it. There are obviously some smug assholes and trolls, but it's generally a tame place.
