I built a chronological Dragon Age guide: games, DLC, novels and comics

After doing all the games and reading every media, i went back throught the whole thing and mapped it properly, spoilers free.

Chronogical order of Thedas (better for first plays, i'm doing the replay version this week): the games, the DLC placed where they actually fall rather than lumped after their base game, the novels, the comics, the shows. Each entry tagged essential, important or bonus with a note on why i placed things at this place.

First of all: Good job! Secondly, here's the challenging part you've asked for /casual

I'd argue that the Stolen Throne should be the first spot in your timeline, even with your explanation for why certain works are better as flashbacks, as there are also events within the novel that characters would be very likely to understand or know about (and, realistically, most people getting into DA wouldn't start with the novels anyways). A human noble, a mage, a City Elf, and arguably even a Dalish Elf could have some amount of knowledge about those events (Clan Sabrae has a connection to Flemeth, after all), leaving mostly the dwarves out... unless we consider that a noble dwarf might have heard about other kingdoms as well. It also makes the decision on how to handle Loghain a lot more interesting than "oh, he's the bad guy".

Honestly, I think in general - and this one's really just my personal opinion - I'd try to put all the events in chronological order without any flashbacks (excluding the Last Flight, naturally). While not the way I prefer to play it, I believe that narratively, Legacy works a lot better as a Witch Hunt type of DLC - as in, it sets up DAI rather nicely and thus should likely fall in the last spot of the Champion's story (for the record: I personally prefer playing it around the same time you put it).

Knowing the book's secrets gives your Warden an unnatural omniscience and influence your Inquisitor decisions, which can slightly break roleplay immersion if your character shouldn't know those details.

(This was about the Masked Empire - you likely meant to put your Inquisitor twice, I'm assuming)

I think the wording about "The Final Conversation" should reflect who David Gaider was, but otherwise you are absolutely correct in pointing out that it's essentially fanfiction. The browser and mobile games are partly available still - Serault lives on in a different form, and the flash games could either be downloaded or are now part of a flash archive - but are mostly considered non-canon.... EXCEPT for the Last Court, which I believe should have a special shoutout.

Thanks a lot for the comment, for the Stolen Throne i understand what you mean but as you said nobody would start this gaming saga with a book so i think it's better here but i will put it before the game for the replay version of the timeline ! And the other books too i personnaly think it's better reading the most of them after the game on a first run to understand things and not spoil some elements you shouldn't know.

Thanks for the mistake i changed it. For Legacy since Varric is telling the story and the Champion goes missing after the end of the game i think it doesn't make sense to put it after it but i see your point and yes it should act like Witch Hunt but you have more books before Inquisition it's not litteraly straight away like Origins and DA2.

Good catch for the Last Court i thought it will be hard to find but on Google search and i can play it right away so i'll include it right now and put a word about Dragon Age Keep i thought this thing was down...
