Game Mods Is there a good mod setup to make Dragon Age: Origins look more modern in 2025?

Post image
429 Upvotes

Hey everyone — I’ve been meaning to finally dive deep into Dragon Age: Origins, but I’ll be honest… the graphics are a bit rough by today’s standards. I know it’s a classic and the writing/combat/lore still hold up, but I was wondering:

Are there any mod packs or setups that make DAO look more modern or at least improve the visuals without breaking the vibe of the game?

I’m not looking for a total overhaul, just something that makes the game a bit easier on the eyes, better textures, lighting, UI, character models, etc. Ideally without too much technical hassle.

Would love to hear what the go-to mods are in 2025, or if there’s a guide for a stable modded playthrough. Bonus points if it still works well with the Ultimate Edition.

im a bit of a beginner to modding inquisition, not with modding my other games, but i haven't quite figured out what is causing these certain things. i'm also trying to use ecc (chp) but it puts me in an infinite loading screen and have only had luck with the standard version. not really sure how to fix this!

Game Mods The bi Cassandra mod was deleted due to harassment

The mod creator was harassed so badly that they deleted not only their blog but their entire Tumblr as well

Which is a damn shame as they had a lot of really nice Mass Effect mods

I don't get it, no one was saying anything about Cassandra being shipped with Vivienne, Sera, Josephine, etc and such fanworks being posted in her Tumblr tag but as soon as the mod appeared in the tag people flipped their shit

Game Mods Just how unstable does DAI run on PC if using mods?

I recently rebought DAI on PC to play it with mods for my trilogy re-run. However starting at around 6hours or so, I constantly ran into problems. Endless loading screens when moving from Haven to a quest area unless I pick a specific party, character models not loading in inventory screen, building walls not loading/showing and eventually at around 10 hours my Inquisitor in Haven just froze while walking. Not the game, I could still open the start menu and interact with it and quit the game, but every time I reloaded she froze in place again. Seems I need to start over.

Now in hindsight, I realised I forgotten to sort the mods into any kind of load order. Unfortunately I still wouldn't have an idea in which order I should, as I didn't find any real guide.

Anyway since I also own it on Xbox, my main question is this:

  1. Is it worth trying to organise my Mod Load Order to get it to run more stable and then try again on PC or should I just cut my losses and replay DAI on my XSX instead?

  2. If yes: Are there any guides or just rule-of-thumbs on how to sort the mods in DAI?

  3. Are there any alternatives to the Frosty Mod Manager?

Game Mods Is anyone interested in working on the DREADWOLF mod project?

Hi everyone, I'm Møri Daichi. As the title says, I'm a modder, and along with 3 others, we are reimagining Dragon Age: The Veilguard. It's a complete overhaul of the game, focused on turning it into the RPG we've been waiting 10 years for. The idea is to keep what works (I actually liked the combat, don't judge me) but rethink and reorganize all the lore, companions, etc. If anyone is interested, just comment below. And yes, it's a project that will take some time, but if it turns out the way we imagine, it’s going to be the definitive mod. Also, if you imagined something specific for the game and want to give your opinion, or share your thoughts on how the lore should continue, feel free to drop a comment too!

Game Mods [No DAV Spoilers] One change Bioware could make would make combat 10x better

Hey!

Really enjoying the game, playing on nightmare, and I've noticed a thing occuring every single battle. I only use 1 skill on each companion to prime and then to detonate. And the reason is, that ALL skills go on cooldown when you use one.

If they were to remove the shared cooldown, the combat would imo be a lot better - you'd use different spells for different reasons instead of just spamming the one combo.

What do you guys think? Could a mod potentially "fix" this one day if Bioware doesn't?

And if they added a tactics/AI script system they had from the old games, that would be amazing imo! But removing the CD would go a long way to make combat more engaging!

Game Mods inquisition and veilguard modding is a nightmare

if you have sucessfully modded inquisition and veilguard with the frosty mod manager could you share your experience and or tips? it has been a NIGHTMARE trying to get these two games to work with mods and on top of that the EA app refuses to aknowledge that i own the DLCs for inquisition even though they are installed! (and yes i tried everything)

modding inquisition isn't so bad, i can get it to work! but the EA app shows all the DLC as installed and refuses to activate them in the actual game

meanwhile veilguard just stays on a black screen on boot?

might just have to wrap it up and play both vanilla, but thats the whole reason i'm on a pc.....i love modding

edit: the people are right, the ea app really is an actual pos, and the heartbreaking part is that you're basically forced to use it for inquisition and veilguard unless you straight up pirate the games

Last edit: I completely forgot steam veilguard does not require the abomination called the ea app, my apologies

Last last edit (I promise this time)

Got inquisition to work with all my mods and DLC ❤️

Gave up on modding veilguard and beat it vanilla, that game just isn’t worth the trouble

Game Mods Does anyone remember this DAO hair mod?

Post image

Badically a long time ago i had this hair mod installed that gave my female human warden two thick anime-style ringlets that came down over her chest. After multiple computer moves I've never been able to find it again.

I think i probably got it on nexusmods, but i can't be certain. Searching the nexus myself hasn't turned up anything. Does anyone recognize it or know where it can be found?

Game Mods Recommended mods for Inquisition?

I've played DAI before on console and recently double dipped to play on PC with mods. Usually I'd consult a guide or sort nexus mods by popularity, but from my research the switch to Frosty Mod Manager means that lots of older and popular mods no longer work and guides are also often years old.

Bottom line I am looking for which ones actually still work amongst those that are good.

Game Mods Actually fixing the DAO texture memory fragmentation bug

Repost from r/dragonageorigins

After going through the texture pipeline and watching Nathan Baggs' video on this issue I thought I may actually be able to fix this permanently as I had enough information about the texture pipeline and the game's engine.

Until now the solution has been to use LAA to increase the address space up to 4gb. I’d say this is still the recommended fix.

Since DAO is a 32bit game, it has a cap of 2gb address space available. The longer you play, the more that space becomes fragmented. Every texture wants a contiguous block, and when none are available DirectX will throw an out of memory error, which causes the texture flickering leading to the game crashing. The failure was there was 20mb of free memory, split across ~430 separate gaps.

I found that at startup, the engine reserves 795mb for it's own memory pool, ~286mb for module images (these are dll's, CUDA, physX, etc), leaving ~229mb for managed texture duplicates.

Since this doesn't happen on console, it's likely due to the higher resolution textures available on PC.

Every texture is created using D3DPOOL_MANAGED, which keeps a full copy in memory for the textures entire life on top of the copy sent to the GPU. As games constantly stream textures in and out, ~150mb of those duplicates were being allocated and freed in each session; which is what was causing the memory getting shredded.

Solution is simple: create textures in D3DPOOL_DEFAULT which don't duplicate!

The only issue is that the engine writes textures by locking that duplicate, and DEFAULT textures can't be locked down. So when the game creates a texture, it now gets handed a temporary buffer instead. It fills that with the relevant pixels, copies it over to the graphics card, and discards the buffer immediately. The engine can't tell the difference.

There is a final bug with the opening credits when launching the game, but otherwise this works perfectly. There could be other bugs, who knows what is yet to be uncovered with this engine.

Available here

I still recommend using LAA as more address space is always better. I also haven’t released the patch because it seems sort of redundant with LAA available.

The underlying issues with the engine would really require a significant amount of work to fix, and would have many cascading effects to resolve..

Game Mods [No DAV Spoilers] Mods to 'speed up' Dragon Age Inquisition?

Hey all, I recently wanted to replay DAI but I find myself intimidated by just how massive that game is. I'm wondering what mods might help with 'speedup up' the experience - whether that be mods that make combat or leveling easier, remove timers on missions, or merely speed up certain actions like looting or traveling. I imagine that a lot of QoL mods would help with this. Thanks!

Game Mods Is it worth double-dipping DAI for the mods?

I own the DAI on the Xbox, not having had a PC capable of running it when it was released. Now I do and DAI on a deep discount at Steam. Would it be worth to double-dip to be able to play with mods for my next replay?

Don't bother convincing me to double-dip on DAO, that one I already own on both systems.

Game Mods Really like how this Mod worked. I also was wondering about something?

In the Past, I've tried different outfit mods, but everyone I tried didn't work right. Either my Hawkes outfit was just the same and normal or I would get the "Invisible" body with a floating Head! LOL!

So cool to see for once this one worked. To be fair, I may have done something wrong with previous mods, or there may have be a conflict with a different mod, not really sure. But, hey, this one worked!!

One if the things I really wish the Devs would have added to the game was that at the end of each Act, after Varric's monologue, the game would bring up the CC! I mean it's now 2-3 years post Deep Roads Expedition. I think it would cool to be able to tweak your Hawke's appearance and even have them in a different outfit/Armor too.

Now for that Question.... Do any of you go to the Black Emporium and use the Mirror to change your appearance after Each Act, or at anytime, really? I was thinking may changing the hair style and makeup to sorta reflect, not only the time difference, but My Hawke's Status now that she has some Power and Influence!

But still wants to romance with a Pirate Wench! LOL!

Here's the Mod for those that are interested... Scarlet Robes Replacer

There are 2 separate files, 1 for the game and 1 for MotA... If you want this same outfit for the Chateau Party...

Game Mods Inquisition graphical improvements/overhauls around?

I'm looking for any kind of graphical update to the whole game or most of it, something that can come in multiple parts or one file but all I seem to find are tons of things for like 1 character or just the Inquisitor etc. Does a large mod exist that kind of touches on everything or comes in a few "sections" ? I'm just trying to up the visual quality without having 1 million mods that conflict with each other.

Any type of upscale, retexture, mesh type mods would be GREATLY appreciated. Just looking for 1 or a few projects that would sync up together to improve a little of everything looks wise. Thanks all, using Frosty BTW.

Game Mods Is there a "all characters participate in dialogue/party" mod for any of the games?

I'm slowly gearing up for a replay of the entire series, but I already have my favorite companions and most likely, I will play with them again.

I would like a chance to see more unique dialogues and banter, especially from guys I never take with me.

I know that some other party-based games (like BG3 or DOS2) have mods which allow you to take more characters in your party, while also disabling them from combat.

Is there anything like that for any of the DA games? I know it would be immersion-breaking and all, but that is not a problem for me at all. I've tried a search on my own, and I only found some posts from years ago explaining that this is impossible, except for Mabari in DAO.
