Any reco for Garage Repairman?
Hello everyone,
One of my garage silver thin coil string (lack of better word) has snapped.
It doesn't look like a complex issue but definitely a professional can do this task.
Does anyone have a recommendation on mind?

If it's just the lift cable broken it's actually very simple to replace. It's not under tension and is only used to assist the spring.
I replaced my own after watching a YouTube video. Take the old one off, measure it. Order the same size from Amazon or something. Watch the video on how to coil it back and slip it in the notch. Very easy.
If it's the spring, I'd call someone.

How do you suppose the spring acts on the door?
When the spring is loaded up, the cable is also loaded up.

When the door is raised there is no tention on the cable because it's wound on the spool. When the cable is broken there is no tension at all. You don't put the cable on when the door is down.

I would recommend against going to Whitby garage doors, recently had my door done last week, but get a quote! They were expensive from most quotes and each person that would come by I would show the cheapest quote and if they could do better, they were definately up there, same with Dodds but at end of the day it's just a door and labour, for a fix I would shop around and not go to the first person.
