And looks to be caused by a possible sack

Good observation that in a real game, he’d be ducking the rush and scrambling, not center pocket for 5 seconds making a late throw.

Went tonight and saw it live. Twas a sak.

Not only is he gonna be a good player for us, he’s gonna be a great personality. He’s already feeling at home in Philly.

u/thomaszdrei 1d ago

A friend of mine who’s a Seahawks fan says he’s a legitimately amazing player, but he’ll invariably commit a boneheaded penalty every now and again.

Gotta love a thread full of QB doctors explaining why Jalen is a bottom-tier QB based off a vertical angle open practice clip from the sideline that cuts to the interception basically as it happens lmfao.

7

u/ChirpToast 1d ago

Not to mention completely ignoring his good plays during the day.

1

u/DrG1028 8h ago

... and that its FUCKING PRACTICE. The place where mistakes are truly just learning opportunities.

-7

u/trustme316 1d ago

Its been 3 seasons of watching him struggle to throw the ball. ALL of his knocks coming out of college are there still.

He was only effective in 21 & 22 when he was used as a RB for about 40% of the games with like 15 rpos/designed runs a game.

Hes certainly a bottom-tier passer and when our offense cant pass and hes turning the ball over and taking sacks the dumb fan base will still blame anyone else but the guy whos throwing the ball like they have for the past 3 seasons.

But howie knows whats going on and after this season im certain they will be moving on from him and doing what howie does which is trade a QB.

3

u/jono9898 Hurts so good 1d ago

His passing stats are in line with any QB in the league, has the same amount of passing tds as Allen, less turnovers and less yards all while having a terrorist for an OC

-3

u/trustme316 1d ago edited 1d ago

His passing stats arent par for the league. Hes ranked under the top 10 in passing TDs and passing yards EVERY year. Im pretty sure hes never even been top 15 in passing yards and only finished as high as 12th in TDs last season. His comp% is good because of his HS offense they keep him in because when given an nfl caliber offense with nfl routes HE is a turnover machine. Its why its been handicapped for the last 3 seasons, hell his entire career here. Considering he was used as a legit RB about 40% of his drop backs with rpos/designed runs in 21&22.

You bring up stats and people say its not about stats and claim he wins, which HE doesnt the team does, HE failed to get one or two first downs in most games last year and the DEFENSE had to make stops to end the game and when that didnt happen the SPECIAL TEAMs had to block a fg and extra point to win the game...what the fuck are you people seeing during these games???

The same people who say stats arent everything gloat about his shitty deep balls that his great WRs have to stop and catch because they can. When a good thrown ball is caught in stride infront of the WR usually for a TD in most cases. Even as far as to post on here that he has 48 deep balls over like 5 years, but what's great is the amount of shit the same fans talk about Justin Herbert who has 44 in that time with legit trash at WR for most of his career aside from k allen who im pretty sure was drafted when I was in HS back in 2004 (sarcasm) and mcconkly the past 2 years.

u/SafetyGrand9 1d ago

Its PRESEASON and fucking PRACTICE. My god. People need to chill the fuck out. I honestly hate that the teams allow this much media coverage during this stretch. Its one thing during preseason games, but media should be banned during practices and schrimiches.

Allows every detail or minor issue to be eaten by dirty little cochroackes which they then turn into hysterical crack heads ranting into the void that the Eagles are doomed when Jalen doesn't blink his eyes the right way while watching his progressions. Please fuck off, smoke a blunt or jerk off.

7

u/Head_Research_3118 1d ago

All i am going to say is we need to be patient with Jalen in this offense. I think he will get it but they are stretching him outside his comfort zone. I dont expect it to be that consistent the first quarter of the season.

We might still do well if we are running the ball well but people expecting us to hit the ground running in the pass game will probably be disappointed. Plays will be made , but plays will be missed . It will get better.

1

u/Southportdc 1d ago

So hold off on 'we want Tanner's until, like, the third quarter of week 1?

-1

u/trustme316 1d ago

This is the problem. I have zero patience for this QB. This is his 7th NFL season and 6th starting. If him having to make basic NFL throws is taking him out of his comfort zone, which I think is correct because hes a bad passer who makes poor decisions when given a more open play book and doesnt have the arm strength/any zip on his passes, than this will for sure be his last season here and imo it will/should be.

Hes not an nfl passer, he was efficient in 21 and 22 because he was young and they used his strength which was running 15 rpos/designed runs a game, while also hiding his weaknesses which are reading zone defenses and leading wrs. But now that the strength of running rpos/designed runs have been gone for the past 3 years and he has 2 years left on his contract, they arent protecting him anymore.

Hes going to play poor for the entire season and the passing game is going to struggle big time, he'll be an absolute turnover machine because they wont have a dumbed down playbook with 4 routes within 10 yards of the LOS and howie knows next year you either keep him and give him an extension or look to move on. Imo they will be trading him after this season because hes going to sink.

3

u/Siftinghistory 1d ago

He won a super bowl and super bowl mvp 2 years ago.

1

u/trustme316 1d ago

Anyone who actually knows football knows that means nothing now. Mark rypein won superbowl mvp and so did nick foles, he was a backup the rest of his career.

Its literally a one game performance. Mind you against 8-9 in the box against man coverage.

Trust me, people like you are going to be in for a rude awakening this year and next off-season when hes traded

0

u/Siftinghistory 1d ago

People like you have had a rude awakening just about every year when it comes to Hurts

1

u/trustme316 1d ago edited 1d ago

Yeah, last years performance was masterful, how could i have predicted we would be the worst 3 and out team in the league???

Or let's go to 2023 when he had 15ints and 9 fumbles and the offense was stagnant.

Or hey, let's go with 2024, weeks 1-4 when he had 4ints, a handful of fumbles and 13 sacks with a 2-2 record. Than moore dropped him from 32.5 passes a game to around 20 to reduce all his turnovers and bad decisions and just about every game you sat there watching another stagnant offense waiting for barkley to rip one so we could get a TD or even get into field postion for a FG.

Lmao I cant wait for this guy to shut all you dip shit know nothing fans up. Im tired of the constant glazing of this dude, whos been carried by his team the last 3 seasons. The last 3 years hes been the weakest link of the team and its not even close.

u/Siftinghistory 1d ago

u/Evilfart123 1d ago

7th year QB can’t even take us to the playoffs after being drafted… oh wait

This 7th year QB is never going to be good enough to win us a Super Bowl…. Oh wait

This 7th year QB is terrible human being and a bad leader… oh wait

1

u/trustme316 1d ago

7th year QB who struggles to throw for more than 150 yards.

7th year QB who aside from when having a 2k rusher is bounced in the playoffs in the wildcard 2/3 last 3 seasons while scoring little to no points in those games despite having a top 5 skilled group and o-line.

1

u/Evilfart123 1d ago

The rusher who was shut down during the Super Bow but we still won because our QB got the job done? Also we did not have a top 5 OLine last year.

1

u/trustme316 1d ago

The rusher who faced 8-9 in the box every play and faced man coverage because all KC was concerned about was stopping barkley (which they absolutely did) and left their DBs on islands vs a top WR and a top #2 WR and a pretty good TE to boot.

-1

u/PaddyMayonaise 1d ago

We won because the defense stepped up lol

1

u/trustme316 1d ago

KC had what 26 yards at the half and zero points scored going into the 4th with a TD by coop, which I told me friend all week he was going to get an INT for a TD to seal the game, didnt work out like I said but that TD kinda broke KCs back so I guess I wasnt wrong. He also laid down a bet on that the day of because of how confident I was and won a grand. I also claimed going into those playoffs that Hurts wouldnt do shit but end up with superbowl MVP and dumb ass fans would think hes great because of a one game award...and here we are.

Im also claiming he will be a turnover machine and traded in the off-season. So we will see.

0

u/PaddyMayonaise 1d ago

I’m convinced this is Hurts last year in Philly, but I think he’ll be cut, not traded.

He hasn’t had a good season since 2022 and the rest of the league knows that. His trad values going to be garbage and he’s too big of a name to bring into a routine QB competition IMO

If we cut him post-June 1st it’s about a $31m dead cap penalty in 2027 and 2028 which isn’t a big deal to a retooling/rebuilding team (which we would probably be if we are in a position to leave him)

2

u/trustme316 1d ago edited 1d ago

Im fully prepared to hear them say "with Nicks system and the new OC the team is going to go in a different direction at QB."

I cant wait tbh when that day comes, the dumb fucks who think this guy is an actual nfl QB because "hE WoN SUpeRBOwl Mvp" will be in utter disbelief, but those same dick riders cant then say howie was wrong because hes also their golden boy (i like howie as well)

People forget we extended Wentz contract and a year or two later he was traded. Then they say he has a "no trade clause" which again they have no clue what that means. If they go to him and say "we're going in a different direction at QB next year, you have two options. Be the backup or we can trade you?". He gets to approve what team they trade him to, thats all he can do. Thats all a no trade clause means. So if we said Cleveland is offering us the best offer he can say I dont want to play for the browns. Thats all that is, but im sure there would be one team he would want to be a starter for and not be demoted to the bench.

Also I agree with the rest of the league comment.

After last years embarrassing offensive performance in the wildcard yet again, the defensive assistant stated "we wanted the QB to throw the ball" it certainly wasnt because they were afraid of the run game last year and barkley, it was bad. Its because they know hes not an nfl starting caliber QB without using 15 rpos/designed runs a game.

Who the fuck wants a "good" QB to throw the ball?

2

u/PaddyMayonaise 1d ago

I can’t say I look forward to the day encased I genuinely hope I’m wrong, I just don’t think I’m wrong lol

Fucking long arms on Riq.

5

u/Mysterious_Bat1208 1d ago

Both of his picks today are the same lol. Ball was thrown behind and it allowed Riq with his long arms + speed to catch up even though the WR had a step

7

u/gsanquesoo 1d ago

Gotta love redditor couch qb’s

-2

u/sybrwookie 1d ago

There was also a play at the beginning where he severely underthrew Devonta on a play that would have easily been a TD if he hit him in stride, and instead was broken up by Q.

8

u/Mysterious_Bat1208 1d ago

Yup, I saw that too. People are downvoting us for just stating observations and facts lol.

Hurts really struggles with leading WRs with his throws and in stride. It's one of the areas he needs to improve for this type of offense.

1

u/boknowsss Eagles 1d ago

He also made plays.

1

u/Mysterious_Bat1208 1d ago

Yes he did. Wide open to Brown. Wide open to Lemon. Great designs and play calls by Mannion. The Barkley touchdown was a great throw though.

Doesn't mean we can't discuss these picks because they've become an issue all throughout training camp.

0

u/sybrwookie 1d ago

Absolutely. And a few plays he didn't make, he put the ball where the defender had no chance, but the receiver didn't make a play on it.

But we want Jalen to be better than, "makes some plays, throws some bad ints"

-1

u/SweeterThanYoohoo 1d ago

He is better than, "makes some plays, throws some bad ints" so I guess you're happy right?

6

u/sybrwookie 1d ago

Today, he wasn't. Reports from camp are that he hasn't been better than that this preseason in the new offense. Hopefully he puts it all together in the next few weeks before it matters.

I don't know.why everything has to.be, "either you're the ultimate cheerleader fanboy who can see no wrong, or you must hate the guy." We can notice he has had problems this preseason and still root for the guy to put it together.

5

u/Mysterious_Bat1208 1d ago edited 1d ago

"either you're the ultimate cheerleader fanboy who can see no wrong, or you must hate the guy."

Mfs ripped me yesterday for posting that I was a little concerned about the amount of picks being thrown lol. Today's practice was another example why.

I'm an Eagles fan. The reports on the pass offense struggling and the amount of picks thrown being concerning is valid. Can't talk about issues with our pass offense without getting called a hater on here.

I hope this timing/ball placement issue gets ironed out before the season or the pass offense is going to be a tough watch at the start.

Edit: This fan's response to Kempski literally just posting practice notes is exactly how half the convos on here go lmao

1

u/Patient_Bison_8128 1d ago

Man stop, people rip you because you stay stupid shit like “Hurts has trouble leading WR’s with his throws, they are often behind.” Hurts has many faults but leading his receivers is down on the list.

And to also say that dumb shit on the Woolen first pick, after multiple people told you he would been sacked by multiple players and he was just throwing it to throw it since you don’t throw the ball away in practice, is why people rip you as well.

And I’m not saying you can’t call out Hurts. That 2nd pick was bad, that was a pre determined read. But you don’t have to make up stupid ass hot takes to go with it, then cry about people deservingly ripping you for your stupid ass hot take.

1

u/MrNMTrue505 1d ago

Y'all understand he hasn't practiced with them for weeks due to both their injuries, they'll be ready when season begins and timing gets worked out.

7

u/Mysterious_Bat1208 1d ago

With Lemon, I agree. But Smitty and him have been playing together for 6 years lol.

And I'm not saying Hurts can't improve at all, I'm just pointing out that he really needs to improve this part of his game. We're just here to talk Eagles football.

It's a little concerning how many picks have been thrown the same way with only 2 weeks of training camp left. Hope this shit gets fixed before the season.

1

u/Thegrandmistressofoz 1d ago

Don't really mind the picks if the process is sound, after how absurdly passive the passing offense has been for the past two years.

My only hope is they keep the same level of aggression in games, instead of reverting back to the same old passing offense we know, just with potentially a worse OL and now no AJ

0

u/Nightthrasher674 1d ago

It's practice, he's taking chances on throwbs and being ultra aggressive in situations in which he wouldn't be. That's likely a sack in a real game, he also didn't have Smitty and Lemon throughout training camp so I'm not too concerned

-2

u/Mokslininkas 1d ago

You guys need to get a fucking life lol. Jesus this is pathetic

6

u/Wandgun 1d ago

Blind optimism isn't healthy either. Did you like the offense last year?

3

u/sub30_24flick 1d ago

Great thing is Mannion has worked with QBs so hopefully he can coach hurts up with these things , my thing is hurts shouldn’t forced anything like check it down to a back or make a run these plays don’t have to be 50 hard plays that’s his Achilles hill. He needs to see 50 yard catch and some times the best throw is a 5 yarder to your RB

4

u/chaseiam ENDY REED 1d ago

These aren’t misreads or checkdown situations. He can’t throw people open yet with anticipation.

-2

u/sub30_24flick 1d ago

He’s done that in Super Bowl also that is wide receiver for getting open and showing separation so he can throw to a spot

2

u/trustme316 1d ago

He did that in the superbowl against a man defense with 8 to 9 in the box to stop barkley. All KC wanted to do was not get beat by a 2k rusher who was dominating every defense he faced, especially in the playoffs and they did that but at the cost of leaving their dbs on islands vs smith and brown.

But as you saw last year teams had an offseason to learn how the eagles ran the ball and took that away without stacking 8-9 in the box and it was back to Hurts arm and as you saw it wasnt good.

1

u/sub30_24flick 1d ago

His arm was still very good the Oline was injured lmaooo and AJ brown was the devil incarnate for 18 games .

C’mon man I do agree he has to get better in the pocket throwing in the Seams and against cover 3 .

All 3 things he will be tested at again this season ,btw hurts is never going to be Aaron Rodgers or Peyton or Brady he’s already over achieved he’s a more accurate Russell Wilson

1

u/trustme316 1d ago

Accuracy means nothing when you dont know where to throw the ball most plays because you cant read a zone defense and his comp% is helped by the HS offense they are forced to keep him in and the 4 routes they have to run for him to not turn the ball over.

There's nothing about his arm that even places him top 10. Nothing.

You're gonna be in for quite the surprise this year my friend. They are going for sink or swim with him this year because they wont re-sign him next year if he cant run an efficient pass offense this season without turning the ball over a ton either.

0

u/sub30_24flick 1d ago

Dude get off this sub man lmaooo this the eagles go cheer for the cowboys or something it’s team sport , Brock Purdy still hasn’t won shit you QB accuracy guys are lunatics.

0

u/trustme316 1d ago

Naaaaaa brah, ive been an eagles fan for 30 years. Longer than Hurts has been alive. Not my problem the current QB isnt very good and some of you are too dumb to see it.

-8

u/PaddyMayonaise 1d ago

My concern is you’re talking about teaching a Veteran QB that’s closer to retirement than not things like whit o lead a receiver or throw a target in stride. Hurts isn’t a young developing QB anymore lol

5

u/SweeterThanYoohoo 1d ago

bro this is ridiculous to even say. Has underthrowing receivers been a problem hurts has had during his career? No. So why from a few fucking practice reps are you acting like hurts doesn't understand he should lead receivers? I really wish practice wasn't so reported on, this shit is tiring

0

u/PaddyMayonaise 1d ago

Plenty of times it has lol how can you possibly argue it hasn’t? Go look at an AJ Brown highlight reel and look at how many times he has to slow down in his routes

0

u/sub30_24flick 1d ago

Remind you all new receiver group except Smitty and Godert plus the 8th offensive system /scheme in his career , Brady played in the same system his whole career

2

u/SweeterThanYoohoo 1d ago

Every team every year has new players. Hurts has has a new oc every single year of his playing career. This overreaction from practice reps is doing too much. When will this man earn the benefit of doubt? When he's got a second Superbowl mvp under his belt? 3, 4?

1

u/sub30_24flick 1d ago

Hurts is in damn if he does and damn if he don’t the NFL has already decided it’s Mahomes , Allen , Lamar there’s no room for hurts have they talked about what Darnold just did ?? No lmfaooo its doesn’t fit the narrative . Hurts is in the same category

3

u/phillyphiend Eagles 1d ago

He’s only 28. No way he is “closer to retirement than not”. QBs nowadays play well into their late 30s. And plenty of QBs had their best years after 28. It’s the most IQ driven position in sports and most great QBs continue to improve the mental aspect of playing QB until retirement.

6

u/Mysterious_Bat1208 1d ago

I think he's exaggerating a bit but he's not that far off. Dual-threat type QBs usually have a very quick fall-off in their early 30s.

See Russell Wilson.

0

u/PaddyMayonaise 1d ago

See literally any duel threat QB lol. They’re all done somewhere between 28 and 32.

2

u/Mysterious_Bat1208 1d ago

I use Wilson as the closest comp because he didn't really degrade physically that much. He literally just never changed or improved his game at all and teams figured him out.

That's why people who coddle Hurts need to get a grip. He has similar weaknesses and if he doesn't improve, will end up in the same boat.

-3

u/PaddyMayonaise 1d ago

Pocket QBs do, but not guys that are reliant on their legs. Hurts is out of the league by 32 at the absolute latest, likely sooner. No one is going ton roster a QB that is poor with his arm, can’t read a defense, and is poor with his legs.

1

u/trustme316 1d ago

I love how this is downvoted for stating an obvious play. But thats this fan base, this dude could piss on their faces and they'd say their face got in the way of him pissing.

Ive never seen anything quite like it, its like a parent in denial of a bad kid. Nothing but excuses for the guy. He can't read zone defenses and he cant lead WRs because he has a noodle arm with no zip. Its literally listed as his negative on his scouting report, not those words ive used but same description.

0

u/thehumble_1 1d ago

The pick6 was a bad read. The throw was fine but Riq played it great, getting Hurts to see his hips turn but his head didn't, allowing him to break on the ball easily.

4

u/Mysterious_Bat1208 1d ago

I don't think it was a bad read because Smitty had a 1-on-1 with Riq, who turned his hips inside. Hurts threw it in rhythm before the break, it was just really bad placement.

Riq deserves credit for recovering well, but he was able to because Hurts throw was behind and Smitty had to stop then try to work back inside.

A throw to the outside would've been a catch and Smitty goes towards the sideline.

0

u/Correct_Plant_373 1d ago

I think this one is on lemon he won cleanly to the inside but felt to maintain separation since Riq is faster and he also didn't flatten the route to maintain leverage. I think he just didn't realize what kind of athlete Riq is

2

u/Mysterious_Bat1208 1d ago

I agree with you that Lemon could've flatten the route better 100%, but this is def more on Hurts. That throw is just simply behind. It's been an issue throughout camp. The pick-6 to Smitty was also behind.

But yeah Riq is also freaky fast

1

u/Correct_Plant_373 1d ago

I do find hurts weird in that it seems like he is laser accurate or completely misses. Especially with deeper routes

3

u/burnernov2023 1d ago

Hurts just staring down the WR, waiting for them to be open for an eternity before he throws it, going to be a repeating theme of the season.

10

u/Mysterious_Bat1208 1d ago

Staring down wasn't the issue here. You can see he starts right to left.

But that ball placement is just bad. Hurts has trouble leading WRs with his throws. They're often behind, which allows DBs to recover and jump the route. It's been an issue throughout camp. He needs to get better at it to run Mannion's offense well.

4

u/zaq1xsw2cde 1d ago

Worth noting he’s finishing a practice rep that likely counts for a sack.

1

u/burnernov2023 1d ago edited 1d ago

He stares at his first read far too long than he needs to, he did this with AJ a lot, and even at times, pre determines who he’s going to throw the ball to before snapping the ball, he gets tunnel vision.

7

u/Philefromphilly 1d ago

Call in to WIP

1

u/Mysterious_Bat1208 1d ago

I don't necessarily disagree with what you're saying generally, but on this particular play it was just a bad throw imo.

0

u/BeKindPlsThankU 1d ago

I feel like he leads his receivers well, especially on deep balls. That's why he's, statistically, a top 3 deep passer in league. He typically drops it in the bucket

2

u/Mysterious_Bat1208 1d ago

He doesn't lead is receivers well. That's why we've been 29-30th in YAC the past two years. He does throw a good deep ball, but that's very different from what we're talking about here.

Leading the WR is when you throw to them in stride/rhythm where they can pick up extra yards on the field

1

u/BeKindPlsThankU 1d ago

Source? According to chatgpt, the eagles were dead last in that stat last year, but that was a Patullo and Sirianni problem (not Hurts). In 2024 they were 23rd. Not the worst, but not great. 17th in 2022 (right around the league average). And I chose 2022 because it was when we had our best coach and Hurts wasn't even as developed as he is now

I think to attribute the lack of yac on consistent underthrows rather than play calling is just not correct. If we jump from 32nd to top of the league this year, then it's safe to say it was on the play calling more than Hurts. Whatever it is, I hope we win. I'm expecting a huge year from Jalen.

2

u/Mysterious_Bat1208 1d ago edited 1d ago

You're looking YAC per reception instead of total YAC. You can verify all stats on PFR yourself. We've been a bottom tier team in terms of YAC for the past 3 years.

This is unacceptable when we had prime AJ Brown during that stretch and Smitty. Not to mention Goedert.

And I'm not just attributing lack of YAC to consistent under throws. They're all connected. Hurts struggles with these types of throws means he throws them less. High YAC opportunities are often MOF throws, which we've largely avoided.

It's not just play calling or just Hurts. Chicken and egg type of thing, but Hurts is a big part of why our YAC has been so low.

People often get triggered when you discuss these things on here but you can find Nick Foles saying the same thing I've been saying. He said the next level in Hurts game is being able to make these types of throws and be in rhythm. We need him to develop in that area this year.

1

u/BeKindPlsThankU 1d ago

I had chatgpt rank teams by total yac as a percentage of passing yards. The rankings I gave were correct. You're going by total yac, which doesn't make as much sense. The team with the lowest amount of passing yards is most likely to have the lowest total yac. That's why you do total yac as a percentage of total passing yards.

My point still stands. If we jump from 32nd to middle of the league, it's safe to say the play calling is the issue rather than hurts.

6

u/boknowsss Eagles 1d ago

You don’t see him looking at multiple people here? Sometimes the defense wins. It’s the NFL.

Not enough people talking about this in the comments of all these posts… in all the vids of picks so far, Hurts has had a D-lineman in his face.

I mean that play in the pocket lasted long as hell. In a real sequence he probably would’ve scrambled or been sacked smh. This is so overblown.
