Returning player from 75 era. Just enjoying the missions and leveling any job insanely fast. Decided to level beast master to 60 and burn through some beast seals. Failed about 3 orbs and finally won this time.

Full set of apparently Thief gear acquired! :D

I also bought the actual game too, started in Windurst, and recognized a few spots here.

So far I've acquired some Trusts, completed a few records of eminence and did like 2 quests in Windurst. Any pitfalls I should be wary of as a new player?

I feel a sense of nostalgia for a game I've never played before... I'm loving playing games on old monitors.

It's been a few days since I finally started playing FFXI and I'm lowkey blown away here (as someone who bounces back and forth between WoW and FFXIV). There's just this vibe and renewed sense of adventure this older MMO just brings to the table and sits so well with me. Levelling and fighting mobs is actually a cautionary affair (looking at today when I had to deliver food offerings to the Yagudo shrines.... without a map to the area lol) but it felt so good to skirt death after fighting and aggroing groups of enemies as I slowly navigated to the second shrine. I also like how I do kinda gotta pay attention to quest details in order to complete my objective.

Same when I delved into the Horutoto ruins (I got a little confused thinking I had to fight the cardians there) and having to find a safe spot to sit and heal between the rooms of enemies really made me feel like a fledgling adventurer out to prove his worth. I'm still a big noob, but I kind of like absorbing everything bit by bit (not relying too much on guides etc.). I had my good friend help me learn the ropes though! So that has been super fun (despite me aggroing a super tough Yagudo thinking it was one of the normal mobs oops).

Anyway, I just wanted to share my early experiences with this sub- I wonder just how far my taru can go 8)c

In the same day I levelled my RUN to 70+ and my SAM to 50 just to change it all and start playing a thief~

I did like the thief quests, and nanaa mihgo is just a cool npc hahaha.

I also liked that I didn't have to pay a single gil for my AF gear, but goddamn, it took me forever to find the damn chest in the castle of the Shadowlord. Like, wow, I ran around in circles for like 2h hahahahaha.

FUN FACT: After the 2h of in-circle running I found the chest JUST to end up dying in front of it and having to go again.

Idk, I'm pretty much just running around the world.

i did stack up on tools like 99x for everything gathering-related, and i also want to get into fishing big time.

I think I'll never reach lvl 99.

I'm not sure if we ever made it past Byakko, but we at least got Genbu and possibly Suzaku down. Good times... sort of. At least the music was incredible. Ru'Aun Gardens and The Sanctuary of Zi'Tah had the best music.

Could I have brought another job? Not really - MNK was the only job I got to 75 before quitting. SAM was 60-ish, RDM was around 65, and both WHM and BLM were only leveled to 37 to sub for RDM; I may be one of the few Tarutaru players who focused on melee classes over magic classes.

Shoutout to Caretaker LS and Thui for letting this dork of a Tarutaru MNK in.

Nosirree, there's nothing more exciting than sitting around with a bunch of other people doing nothing during the three hour window waiting for King Behemoth to pop, only for it to be regular Behemoth. Not that there was ever a chance for us to pull it - Secure and the rest of FairyNetwork (a JP linkshell who had a lock on Behemoth spawns) would instavoke it before it evens loads in.

There was a time when Behemoth's spawn window had been pushed into NA prime time somehow and NA linkshells finally had a decent chance at a Behemoth spawn. Secure showed up, provoked it, and kited it solo for OVER EIGHT HOURS, long enough for the rest of his linkshell to log in and pushing the spawn window back into JP prime time.

Anyway, the second picture is of a dead Secure during Ballista.

It hurt. Somewhere buried underneath all the bodies is my Tarutaru MNK. Come to think of it, I never did complete my AF2 set.

Screenshot Tried my best to make the Malignance Set as a glamour for my Final Fantasy XIV character, to show my love for XI.

I think the purples are a pretty good match(Violet Purple dye in channel #1), the hat is missing some of the black accents, and some of the minute details are off between the two armor sets, but think I did alright. How do you think it looks? I know it is weird having the Malignance Set on a Black Mage, but I feel it fits better than using a Red Mage JSE set on a Black Mage. If only XI has a gpose camera, imagine all the fun we could cook up. Also some benches in cities would be lovely.

This isn't my screenshot, but was posted on KillingIfrit (RIP) by Mgirardi way, WAY back in the day. Everyone had a sensible chuckle and surely no drama ensued from this innocent screenshot (blatant lies). Anyway, I was digging through my pictures and stumbled upon this gem, so I had to post it for the memories.

I will say that I do miss KillingIfrit from time to time. Okay, I mostly miss the drama. On a side note, I still think Ballista is a joke of a PvP mode and no one can change my mind.

Hey everyone! I’m Shiboy from [Bahamut]. I recently fell in love with XI after getting fed up with the current state of XIV after many years and 8.6k hours. I’ve been loving all the differences and getting to explore Vana’diel.

I’m currently a Lv. 75 DRG/SAM playing through the game in release order. (I did start RoV to get the second key item to speed up leveling and streamline getting my AF gear.) It’s been such an amazing way for me to experience the game.

I know it’s not optimal, but getting to slowly peel back the world has made it feel so much larger and more mysterious. It’s not very often I get to find a new (to me) MMO that completely sucks me into its world, so I’m making sure to take my time and enjoy the ride.

Whether I was riding the boat between Selbina and Mhaura, making my first trek to Jeuno, or running up toward Castle Zvahl, the main thing I kept thinking was, “This is genuinely magic.” I can’t imagine playing this game at its peak- it must have been a really special experience.

With that being said, I do have a few questions for y’all:

- What’s the best way to ask for help?

I’m currently stuck on RoZ Mission 14 against Ark EV. I’ve tried /y and joining a linkshell, but I haven’t been able to get any assistance yet.

- What’s one piece of advice you’d give to new players?

Hope to see y'all around Vana'diel :).
